Specifically jewellery on a beach? If so it's mine! Anyway have you ever found something valuable like an engagement ring or bag of Xmas shopping and kept it or did u hand it in somewhere?

Er no. You don’t know what that could mean to the person if returned (emotional value, could have saved hard to get it) and even so, it’s not yours! I always return and like to think someone would if they found something of mine.

StoatMilk · 26/09/2021 01:18

I have found a beautiful engagement ring on the side of a sink at work. I handed it in to the security guard, and the next day found a box of chocolates on my desk, which was a lovely surprise.

Shelddd · 26/09/2021 01:20

Nah, have never kept anything. Always have turned it in. Ive found a couple cell phones and I've returned those direct to owner otherwise return it to lost property if there is one where I found it otherwise police.

Id turn that into police personally. You never know what position the person who lost it is in, it could mean a lot to them sentimentally and/or it could cost too much to replace for them.

RLOU30 · 26/09/2021 01:32

I read it as OP lost jewellery on a beach not found it

mummaelle · 26/09/2021 01:35

Um no I wouldn't keep anything that could be sentimental like an engagement ring, but anything like money or a bag of xmas prezzies that's mine now looool

Boiledpotatowitch · 26/09/2021 01:35

Yes a diamond ring like an engagement ring on folkestone beach about 36 years ago have you got it?! Also a sapphire necklace lost in a shop whilst trying something on no they never found it never saw it really?! So interested to know

Only my Dp 26 years ago.

TulipCat · 26/09/2021 05:13

I have never found a personal item like jewellery, which I would hand in. I have found the odd £10 which I've kept though.

Pikamoo · 26/09/2021 06:30

The only thing I've ever found was an unposted card that someone had dropped. Had a right time trying to find a postbox as I was rushing to the airport but I managed to post it. I hoped the recipient would notice the Heathrow airport postmark (not even sure that's how it works tbh) and be confused 🤣

onelittlefrog · 26/09/2021 06:49

Are you asking because you have found something and are wondering whether to keep it?

Hand it in.

You don't know how sentimental or valuable it could be to someone and it's not yours just because you found it.

thebabessavedme · 26/09/2021 07:34

Not sure if this is classed as valuable, but many years ago I found someones hand written Uni thesis by the sink in the ladies at Liverpool St station, I could actually feel the poor girls panic as she realised it was missing Sad I rushed it to lost property and have always hoped she went and got it.

HungryHippo11 · 26/09/2021 07:36

I've found money a few times and kept it, but only £5 or £10 and in a public place where tracking the owner would be impossible.

StrongTea · 26/09/2021 07:40

Someone’s handbag in supermarket trolley and handed it in, had to give my details, received a lovely bunch of flowers the next week. Saw a briefcase had been left at side of car and handed it in to carpark attendants.

EdithWeston · 26/09/2021 08:03

Yes, I found a beautiful (hallmarked) silver bangle in a local park.

But before I kept it, I took it to the police station who did whatever they do to reunite it with original owner. But if no one comes forward it can be legally claimed by the finder, and that is what I did.

I would always hand things in.

LemonadeFromLemons · 26/09/2021 08:18

@EdithWeston

If it’s a bangle with crosses (x) that kind of look like shooting stars on where the middles sparkle like diamonds (but are just etched), it’s the bracelet my grandmother left me. Can I have it back please? Smile

PermanentTemporary · 26/09/2021 08:24

When out walking the dog at 6am, I used to find complete picnics in the local park just left on the grass - pizza boxes, beer bottles, the works. Clearing up a particularly horrible one on a chilly morning, I found £25 in the wreckage and I kept it. Drunken arseholes.

Objects, wallets, cards, phones I would always hand in, I lose them too often myself.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 26/09/2021 08:34

Found a mobile phone once - turns out it was a burner phone belonging to a drug dealer (my dc looked at the messages and told me). We took it to the police station. I would have handed it in even if it wasn't.

Thisbastardcomputer · 26/09/2021 08:47

I found a handbag behind the door of the ladies toilet in Meadowhall, I handed it in, I didn't leave my name, I was a bit worried I wasn't the first finder and something may have been removed from it, I didn't look inside it.

When I was a teenager I often found money outside my grandmas house, she lived at the end of a road, it was walled across and had gates going into allotments. All the rubbish and leaves accumulated there, my cousin and I used to say, let's go find a fiver.

CurlyWurly321 · 26/09/2021 08:47

I found a gram of coke once.

It was NYE in Brighton, so I bet someone was pissed off!

roses2 · 26/09/2021 08:47

Three years ago I found a mens cerruti 1881 giubbotto rain jacket (worth around £400 I think) in the street. No local police stations to hand it to so I just gave it to the charity shop. Nothing in the pockets to identify the owner.

Makinganewthinghappen · 26/09/2021 14:31

I found a pair of ipods they were in a puddle in the road. I asked at the school nearby they were not interested and i really wasnt sure what to do with them. I have no idea how you could find the actual owner.

KeflavikAirport · 26/09/2021 15:41

Many years ago, I found an expensive brooch in the pocket of a coat I bought at a jumble sale. I kept it, there was no way to trace the donor and it had clearly been lying forgotten in the pocket for years and years.

needtoseperate · 26/09/2021 17:57

I just need to say- I found £30 a few years ago in a local park I was very skint and in a manipulative relationship (now ended) I took it to the park management kiosk leaving my details thinking they’d return it to me if no one claimed it. STUPID ME I contacted them they said they’d give it to charity. I should’ve given it to the police who would’ve told me that it couldn’t be traced and let me keep it STUPID STUPID ME I could’ve bought food for the children with that. my FB parenting group were unsympathetic probably because they’ve never experienced working poverty STUPID ME 🤬
since then I’ve found the odd fiver or tenner and kept it

Babababababybelll · 26/09/2021 21:25

Yes i once found a phone in a case with about £300 in it . It also had a bank card card with a name on.

I spent ages tracking the lady down on facebook , getting in contact and dropping it with her.

She was so rude when i dropping it off.

She didnt say thank you , and the way she looked at me - i felt like she thought i had taken it !

It still makes me cross that she was so ungrateful.

I wouldn't of kept it, it was so much money. But when i remember how rude she was i sometimes think i should of done !

WTF0ver · 26/09/2021 21:32

I found a gorgeous engagement ring in my gym locker once. Handed it in at the desk and a week later I asked if anyone had come forward and claimed it, but they had no record of it Confused I wish I'd taken it to the police station instead.
