This is an odd one.

So strange, I always find stories like this so intriguing!

Notaroadrunner · 19/09/2021 14:01

Wow, must be so frightening for her. Hopefully if her photo is shared she will be recognised and reunited with family or friends.

rocklamp · 19/09/2021 14:04

Hopefully it'll just be due to a transient amnesia and not that anyone has dumped her due to dementia or something, like they did with that American chap a few years ago.

lljkk · 19/09/2021 14:13

she may not be frightened. She doesn't know what she's lost.

I wondered about "couldn't swim that distance" quite -- what distance? 5 km from the shore line, maybe? Some distance only bears and younger people can swim, but what distance, from where?

WitchBaby · 19/09/2021 14:13

Oh how strange.

cloudacious · 19/09/2021 14:19

I think he meant it's impossible to walk over the rocks to reach this place on foot so she must have swum around the coast line from wherever is more inhabited.

rocklamp · 19/09/2021 14:20

Perhaps she was taken there on a boat and left on the rocks.

cloudacious · 19/09/2021 14:21

My guess would be she's come off a boat cruising around and has had a knock on the head. What's really odd is that no one has reported her missing. That makes me wonder if it was a private sailing vessel she was either alone on, with someone who has gone down with the vessel, or foul play.

itsgettingwierd · 19/09/2021 14:24

I noted the comments re not being able to walk on the rocks and too far to swim.

It does create questions how she got there but the boat idea is credible.

I hope it's an accident and she hasn't been harmed and dumped.

User5490453456 · 19/09/2021 14:37

Krk is a massive tourist area with beaches. It's also possible that she drifted out to sea on a paddleboard or raft and suffered a shock while trying to get to safety.

Regarding the comment that the area was "inaccessible". Virtually all beaches in Croatia are extremely rocky and razor sharp. Every beachgoer needs rubber soled shoes or the stones will cut your feet. So in that regard it doesn't make the story more mysterious, as just drifting 20m from a public beach can land you in even rockier areas.

Frezia · 19/09/2021 14:46

"Virtually all beaches in Croatia are extremely rocky and razor sharp."

This is absolutely not true Hmm
Most Croatian beaches are stony, pebbly or gravelly and fine to walk on barefoot. Most locals certainly don't wear rubber shoes.

Frezia · 19/09/2021 14:57

@lljkk

The original source says it's an area which is very hard to access from both land and sea. The local interviewed wondered about swimming from Crikvenica, a town on the coast about 3 km away from the island across the sea but it's a very hard swim. They are also dubious about her arriving by boat because of treacherous rocks.

Babymamamama · 19/09/2021 15:02

I wondered .....
What is her accent?
What was she dressed in when found?
Any jewellery or distinguishing features?

I imagined her being abandoned from a passing sail boat. Don’t know why. She can’t have been there that long as her hair looks like it’s been dyed fairly recently. Maybe travelling with her partner round the world and they had a fall out? Poor woman.

TheVolturi · 19/09/2021 15:06

I hope they find out what happened and that she is OK!

FreeBritnee · 19/09/2021 15:08

There was a case like this in the past where someone had deliberately left their relative who was suffering from dementia somewhere far away from their home to force the authorities to care for them.

Mariell · 19/09/2021 15:13

Maybe she did her husband in whilst on a boat and is making the story up?

Mariell · 19/09/2021 15:16

I think she looks German.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/09/2021 15:21

Can they look at her clothes and tell where they came from. Labels etc?

Spysolation · 19/09/2021 15:24

Rubber shoes are recommended to tourists for Croatian beaches because of urchins, rather than them all being razor sharp. Many are just nice and pebbly.

RoseAndRose · 19/09/2021 15:24

Well it looks as if it should be impossible for her to have got there, but somehow she did.

Presumably the Embassy is involved, and would be able to tell if she's likely to be British? Speaking perfect English doesnt rule out other anglophone nations (so clothes labels a good idea)

Brollywasntneededafterall · 19/09/2021 15:28

Her eyebrows are very manicured!! Maybe her beautician will recognise her!!
She has gorgeous eyes!

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/09/2021 15:50

Gosh poor woman. She could live anywhere.

AlphabetAerobics · 19/09/2021 15:52

@Mariell

I think she looks German.
I’d put a tenner on that.
Tempusfudgeit · 19/09/2021 16:02

I read the story and immediately thought she's deliberately withholding her identity. Maybe involved in the drugs trade.

wafflesandbeans · 19/09/2021 16:07

The weird thing is she looks like someone I know. Who is Croatian, but lives in Australia.

If I had to put money on her origin I would say Yugoslavian, possibly Serbian.
