Maybe she’s a Russian spy?

If she's German you'd be able to pick up on her accent unless she's been in UK for many years and even then you would notice certain clues.

Not necessarily if the people speaking to her have been Croatian with English as a second language though. I speak good Spanish, and I could probably tell you if somebody was from mainland Spain or South America but if they were a non-native speaker I'm not sure I'd be able to pick up their original language.

I'd expect a native English speaker to have a good idea though.

I agree with others that she doesn't look British. I'd have said Russian, though!

I hope they find out who she is soon. She must have come from somewhere! A hotel might know, but if she's staying in an air b'n'b type place it might not be obvious she's gone missing.

Why are people guessing her nationality by her appearance? How on earth can you tell?

I mean a native english speaker would probably be able to tell if she's an english native speaker or not, but you're right would probably not be able to identify which native speaker she is.

@musicalfrog I agree she could literally be from anywhere her appearance does not scream a certain nationality.

Rubber shoes are recommended to tourists for Croatian beaches because of urchins, rather than them all being razor sharp. Many are just nice and pebbly.

I've spent very many summers on the island of Krk. There are lots of lovely accessible beaches and yeah some inaccessible areas but they're not considered beaches (and neither is the area where she was found). I never used to wear rubber shoes up until a few years ago which was more for stability as it makes going into the sea easier when carrying a baby/toddler. Never stepped on an urchin either - the local authorities usually clean the shallow waters (pick them and throw them back into the deep) early in the season.

Because beaches and sea floor is pebbly and rocky rather than sandy or muddy, the sea water is normally super clear and it's easy to see what you're stepping on. It's not that hard to avoid an urchin.

I would be very surprised if she was anything but in her sixties.
