What show should we see in London in December?

Hi

I'm meeting a friend in London, late December, who I haven't seen for far too long. We want to go to a show and dinner. I've had a shitter of a couple of years and we would like something fun and fairly easy. Mainstream possibles are Mamma Mia or Mary Poppins. Does anyone have any other suggestions for us? Many thanks!

Wicked. Everybody's talking about Jamie. Six.

LadyJaye · 17/09/2021 12:36

If you can get tickets for Hamilton, DO IT.

Went to see it at Victoria Palace last week and it is MIND BLOWINGLY good.

LadyJaye · 17/09/2021 12:37

@BobsBurgersisthebest

Wicked. Everybody's talking about Jamie. Six.
I think 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' finishes its run at the end of this month, unfortunately.

Come From Away (is amazing: even my husband enjoyed it)
Book of Mormon should be open by then too
Six
&Juliet

Loved all of the above

GlasgowsGreen · 17/09/2021 12:39

For something different, Pride & Prejudice (sort of) is just transferring from Glasgow to the Criterion and is a jolly good laugh, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Comefromaway · 17/09/2021 12:45

I'd say Come From Away but although I'd call it a fun show it's not fairly easy, it's very moving and thought provoking as well. (Absolutely fantastic)

I've heard Pretty Woman is not very good.

It's pretty expensive but I really, really want to go and see Back to the Future. I've heard great reviews.

PuppyMonkey · 17/09/2021 12:48

Hairspray is fab - not sure if it will still be on in December though.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 17/09/2021 12:48

Back to the Future
Absolutely incredible!

milian · 17/09/2021 12:49

Hamilton Hamilton Hamilton

@ImNotWhoYouThinkIam

Back to the Future Absolutely incredible!
We were hoping to go and see it in Manchester as one of dd's friends was a swing. But dd was in a show herself at college then covid hit and closed it down.
ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 17/09/2021 12:52

@comefromaway if you can get to London to see it then do! Its so good. We only had the cheapest seats but could still see everything.

Comefromaway · 17/09/2021 12:55

Sadly dh has vertigo so the cheap seats are too high for us usually but we are trying to organise going to see it if we can.

NashvilleQueen · 17/09/2021 12:59

Frozen is meant to be amazing.

Comefromaway · 17/09/2021 13:01

And I guess I should mention Lion King too.

NuffSaidSam · 17/09/2021 13:28

Matilda
Wicked
Everybody's Talking about Jamie

Come From Away is absolutely fantastic, but probably not easy/fun viewing.

Comefromaway · 17/09/2021 13:36

Jamie closes at the end of next week.

sashagabadon · 17/09/2021 13:42

A Christmas carol at the old vic. Very Christmassy!

storminabuttercup · 17/09/2021 14:54

Wicked... I could see that show every week

Jamie is brill but won't be on then

CiaoForNiao · 17/09/2021 14:59

Not related to being in London, but the movie version of Jamie is on Prime.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 17/09/2021 15:08

Come from Away. It has everything and is uplifting despite the tragic circumstances surrounding it.

BarbInCarriage · 17/09/2021 15:16

Just to say I like musicals, love theatre - hated Hamilton. Admired the thing itself but really hated it. Watch a bit on youtube first.

Book of Mormon is ace. not for the easily offended though.

I find that so interesting as it’s so different from my experience - what did you hate about it? Are there other musicals you hate?
dreamingofsun · 17/09/2021 16:20

Really enjoyed Lion King and Les Mis.

Glad people are recommending Wicked as seeing that soon as had to cancel first attempt due to lockdowns

StillMedusa · 17/09/2021 16:22

SIX... absolutely brilliant!
Matilda.
Les Mis

We have seen most musicals as a huge fan, but I have to say SIX really hit the spot.. so funny, brilliant and moving at the same time.

Currently trying to get tickets for Cabaret (the London cast) but they are VERY hard to get!

Mapletreelane · 17/09/2021 16:24

Six - fabulous
Lion King - magical
Hamilton - astounding....but i would possibly read up a little on Alexander Hamilton and the founding fathers, so you have a clue what's going on!
