Thanks Prok Hope you now have some nice biscuits to eat.

Hope you feel better soon Maths We also have 1 mouse in the house, very cute but need to get him out and the plumbers told DH we have quite a lot of mice outside targetting the chicken food. DS loves mice and feeds the silkies far too much. Silkiecat is of very little help, she catches about one mice every 5 years and one time was just sitting with one a few cms away from her, far too much effort to lift a paw Grin

That's nice you got to go to a 50th Ginger

I remember the teething Lemon we used to use Neurofen for children on the bad nights which got them to sleep for a few hours at least, also used Dentenox but never seemed to do much.

Collecting the fridge finally tomorrow.

Silkieschickens · 17/10/2021 01:04

Hope you avoid the tornado MissC

Silkieschickens · 17/10/2021 01:07

Hope you can get mortgage sorted Champagne Brokers can be helpful for anything complicated as they know which banks are easier to deal with and can access different products. We have to use a broker for the insurance here, I have always avoided brokers but could not get any insurance until contacted a broker.

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/10/2021 02:44

@MissConductUS hope you avoid the tornadoes to me that sounds awful.

I gave liquid paracetamol last night as he was screaming for over an hour. After having that he was so much better and slept fine.

@Silkieschickens a cat that doesn’t catch mice? As a child my cat was a mouse catching queen … living rurally there were loads to catch. I hate mice see especially when they were left as presents 🙈

mathanxiety · 17/10/2021 04:55

Smile I do have a cat. When I was buying the mouse traps I also bought cat food. This cat has been known to sit a distance of two feet from a mouse and merely stare at it.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 17/10/2021 05:47

@mathanxiety try putting a teaspoon of nutella on the traps, you want to lure them in. I was reading about this lately for a friend with an infestation. They will ignore it for several days as they see it as dangerous but once they get used to it, they develop a blind spot and Surprise.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 08:22

Silkie The biscuits remained in the 'musing' state as we had not enough butter in.

As far as teething is concerned - DS started on his wisdom teeth (2) but luckily he has enough room for them to come out. I supplied him with Dynexaan for the pain.

Nydj · 17/10/2021 10:23

For the benefit of this thread and this thread only, I have ventured to look out of the window and can report that the neighbour’s marquee is still there. I am toying with mainly staying in bed today.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 10:49

Nydj That is really important to know. As it is Sunday, the tidying up will probably take some time - do marquee removal persons work on weekends in the UK?
Staying in bed is a good idea - eat stuff that does not crumble! Smile

This is a technique also employed by Wartycat. The long hard intimidating stare....doesn't work obviously and then WC gets ferociously jealous of next door's cat who actually catches and delivers mice....

Came in oven for DM birthday tomorrow

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/10/2021 14:41

Cake

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 14:43

What kind of cake Lemon?

Silkieschickens · 17/10/2021 15:18

DH came to the bedroom door with the cats bowl full of food and I asked him why and he said oh sorry Silkiecat I was nearly giving your food to your Mum.

Had roast dinner and collected DDs birthday cake. DH asked what day we should have DDs birthday cake. I explained on her birthday.

Dh is going to get the fridge, well hopefully as the store is 40 mins drive and closes at 4pm but he always leaves tgings to last minute then moans they were closed.

I’m not really sure, @Prok. You may be right, perhaps they are waiting until Monday to take it down.
HelenaJustina · 17/10/2021 16:50

Had my DB, his wife and two DC to lunch. They’ve just left. It was a lovely long visit. I made an Eton mess cake for pudding.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 16:58

Helena How lovely! (Still cakeless because of the lack of butter in this household)

MissConductUS · 17/10/2021 17:29

Of the many cats I've served, several have been useless mousers. So I am not surprised to hear that others have suffered the same disappointment.

We came through the storm last night okay, with no nearby tornadoes. They're pretty rare in this area. Our driveway, which DH cleared yesterday, is not covered again in leaves and branches, so he's had to do it again.

After having DS home last weekend, it feels odd to be empty nesters again. I'll just have to look forward to Thanksgiving. DD hasn't been home since we took her to uni in January.

@Nyjd, I'd say staying in bed is the wisest course of action.

Helena, that cake looks delicious. Where do you get fresh strawberries from this time of year in the UK? We're still getting them from Florida, but at some point over the winter they'll all be from Mexico.

Prok, no butter is a terrible state of affairs. I keep some in the freezer just to make sure I don't run out.

I'm watching a really good science fiction series on Netflix called Another Life. I really enjoyed the first season and the second season has just dropped.

Silkiecat does not even stare at mice. One time a mouse was sitting about 5 inches from her and I said Silkiecat mousey and she just blinked at me, not sure if she saw mousey as her new friend or she was obvilious. Sometimes she treats them like toy mice and bats a paw or two and taps them.

Lovely cake Helena. I love cake and I am finding it hard knowing we have a cake in the house that we cant eat yet so I had some after eights instead, they were lovely and have taken away cake urges. I suggested to DH we give DD her cake at midnight but he pointed out she would be asleep. Wink

DH got the fridge and got the old one recycled, he was most pleased they did not charge him for recycling it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 18:52

Once a mouse made it up to our 5th floor. Sev was mildly interested, but not enough to do something about it.

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/10/2021 18:59

Not the best cake but cake for my DM tomorrow. She doesn’t want a fuss so is coming here for lunch

Gingerwarthog · 17/10/2021 19:02

DH made us apple cake.
I love DH.

MissConductUS · 17/10/2021 19:05

That cake looks lovely, lemons. Are those chocolate cookies biscuits around the top?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 19:09

lemon That looks like a very tasty chocolate-y cake. Enjoy and all the best to your DM (from unknown = unbekannterweise).

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/10/2021 19:29

@Gingerwarthog apple cake sounds yummy.

@HelenaJustina that cake looks delicious 🤤

@MissConductUS they are bournville dark chocolate buttons. As a child my mum would only buy Bournville dark chocolate.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus thanks 😊

All this mouse talk making me feel icky! I can’t stand mice.
