Anybody for an hotel chocolat liquor? It's like baileys but chocolate.

HelenaJustina · 08/10/2021 22:05

I’ve had a gin so yeah why not!

HelenaJustina · 08/10/2021 22:06

Left the house at 7.15am, got back at 6.15pm. Have still got an apron on as have been prepping for tomorrow’s ‘do’ since. The gin has helped me not care about the list of tasks still undone but not with the actual completing I must be honest

Pheebs2021 · 08/10/2021 22:09

Just take the bottle you need it more than I do.

HelenaJustina · 08/10/2021 22:15

Grin I’m saving the serious drinking for tomorrow once it’s all over!

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/10/2021 22:25

DH DS out today so I could clean in peace. Due to Dh work pattern this week he hasn’t seen DS much hence me cleaning and not him.

Found out SIL been talking about me again this time about parenting choices. We were minimal contact due to her comments and BS but I have made a huge effort ( even DH noticed) for my DS but am now annoyed yet again.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/10/2021 01:14

You're a bit of a lightweight helena, DS was picked up at 7.10 this morning and finally deigned to allow DH to pick him up at a fraction before 10pm. When I asked DH if he thought they had been drinking, his reply was "hmm, I should say"

DS was apparently in bed by 10.30 Grin

It's worrying in one sense, but in another it's fantastic to see them doing proper teenager things after so long of not being allowed.

Hope all goes well tomorrow helena, you'll have earnt a drink by the evening Grin

mathanxiety · 09/10/2021 02:20

Dcat deigned to sleep on my bed last night, curled up beside my pillow. She does this from time to time. Nobody knows why. She got up and left at about 1:40am. I felt very honoured.
@Champagneforeveryone - by ringing around we found an insurance cover for DS which was very reasonable ( and told them all true facts re usage of car. )

This may be a nice lighthearted story for the weekend. At the end of our road is an elderly French woman and the house is a back to back terrace so her only garden is at the front. She has a lovely tree in it which I thought had died. Anyway I saw her today and imagine this in a very French accent ) (I had previously seen her and said - so sorry your tree haas died ) FW ( French Woman ) I was passing and she said come here Basilisk my tree will live ( and sure enough there were green shoots ) She said - he does this every few years - he is naughty - I call him Lazarus. But he knows I will chop him and feed him - I think he knows who is in charge but he continues to be naughty.

That made me smile
I love the French Woman and her Naughty Tree.
DH made peanut butter brownies and we have somehow managed to eat 12 in 2 days.

MissConductUS · 09/10/2021 10:13

Good luck with your today Helena.

Lemons, I'm in low contact with my SIL too. She has always been jealous of DH's achievements in life and it shows in her attitude towards us. Fortunately, we don't really need to interact with her much.

My MIL can't get out of her building as the lift is not working and she can't manage the stairs, so DH and DS are taking over a load of shopping for her later this morning. DS and I are going to make mac & cheese for dinner tonight. We haven't had it since he went back to uni in August.

I'm up early and off for a run.

Been for a swim.
Got slightly less calM than usual when I spotted that the swimmer in my l(fast) lane who was outpacing everyone was in fact wearing flippers.
This gave her a 40% speed advantage....and offended my sense of fair play...

Champagneforeveryone · 09/10/2021 17:43

I got a new phone today which has only cemented my descent into old age.

Previously I would have been thrilled by this, today it just seems like a terrible faff to log back into all my apps, aside from the fact I've been chucked out of my mobile banking.

HelenaJustina · 09/10/2021 18:30

We’ve had a very lovely day. The Bishop said a beautiful Mass and then we had 17 here for lunch in the end, all doors open, some people ate outside, just a gorgeous autumnal day. Clearing up nearly done and there is half an already opened bottle of cava in the fridge with my name on it!

Silkieschickens · 09/10/2021 19:41

Washed our bedding, cleaned bathroom and landing. DD has been out with friends and dh just off to pick her up and get a mcdonalds.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2021 19:45

Hello people of the thread - I hope you are all as well as can be. I was really really busy and have not yet read up on all your news. Frist day of 14 days off work today.
silkie I am still doing Russian, though DD thinks my pronunciation is "cringe" (I think so, too).
In the last weeks I have:
built lots of flatpack furniture - homes for books, moved furniture around, found a psychiatrist for DD - her ADD / AS has finally caught up with her and she has asked for help, started writing her diagnostic histroy, DH has recieved a grant off the restart culture pot, so he and a team are back in work and he IS working more than ever. (But you can't get rich with literary science).

@hiptobeasquare - That is a very even piece of knitting! Mine never looks that nice.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 18: Calmly through the day
Silkieschickens · 09/10/2021 20:01

Good to have you back Prok Do you have any plans for your 14 days off? I am still doing the Russian every day too, surprised how easy it is to get the pronunciation marked correct.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/10/2021 20:12

@Silkieschickens - Duo likes my pronunciation - DD doesn't. Her teacher was a tyrant very strict and from St. Petersburg.

Well, plans, I intent to supervise DS working on his 5PK and visit a few museums. I've never been to the Barberini www.museum-barberini.de/en/ and do some sewing, as I now have a workplace. Smile

I had to fish out my shorts and T-shirts again as we're having a very warm weekend here.

Took DD3 for her phlebotomy appointment this morning. We had to walk all around the hospital trying doors before we finally found one open, and then had to weave our way to Outpatient Registration, where we overheard a woman whose number was called before DD's complaining that she had had to walk all around the building looking for an open door. Apparently someone hadn't shown up for work this morning and therefore the only doors open were the Emergency Room and the one furthest from the lab. Anyway, I hope the woman and her companion found their way to the colonoscopy department.

We went to the Farmer's Market on the way back. There was a heavy mist that was just beginning to burn off, lots of pumpkins and gourds, and the usual informal group of local bluegrass musicians, just warming up.

Silkieschickens · 10/10/2021 06:57

Gallery looks good Prok, love impressionist art.

Birds are singing despite its pitch black here. Definitely no tshirts and shorts here.

HelenaJustina · 10/10/2021 07:45

That gallery looks beautiful Prok enjoy your time off!
The benefit of blitzing the house to host is that once the party is cleared away, my house is very clean and tidy underneath! Off to Mass, everyone else is asleep so I’ll walk the 3 miles and enjoy the solitude and exercise.

Gingerwarthog · 10/10/2021 11:12

Been for a run with DH in the October sunshine.
It's very warm and it smells of fox, manure and blackberries. That sounds repulsive but was actually quite pleasant.

sueelleker · 10/10/2021 11:35

I'm glad you put a comma in between fox and manure! Fox manure is not nice, although my sprocker spaniel disagrees.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/10/2021 12:16

Lovely sunny but cool day here. DH thinks about a red curry dish for midday.

sue Dogs love to roll in the most disgusting stuff. I am sure there is a (evolutionary or dermatological ?) purpose behind all this

Gingerwarthog · 10/10/2021 12:26

Oh yes. Fox manure is vile and lingers but total magnet for dogs!!!
MissConductUS · 10/10/2021 12:58

It's lovely to see you return, Prok, and I am jealous of your 14 days off.

I have been on a run this morning too, although to be honest I am still alternating between running and walk. I walk up the hills (one of which is a beast) and run the rest of the route.

DH and DS picked up the new snowblower yesterday and delivered a huge load of grocery shopping to my MIL, then stayed and visited with her for a time. She's stuck in her apartment until the lift is repaired. DS went out for pizza with one of his high school friends who is still in the area. I went to the farmers' market and bought a bag of local apples and made apple pie. DS and I made macaroni and cheese, which we had with burgers. I baked the pie while the men grilled the burgers.

The pie came out nicely and was delicious. The fresh apples made it very juicy and I used lots of cinnamon and turbinado sugar to coat the apples. I decided to leave the kettle in the first picture with the pie and the mac and cheese to refute the view, commonly heard on MN, that Americans do not own kettles.

As you can see from the last picture, the leaves are starting to change color here. In a week or two they'll be really striking. I got a bit of a late start this morning so I will probably skip going to church this morning. It's too late for the 8:30 service and I don't fancy the 10:30 service as much.
