Does a school shirt really need ironing?

Surely not.

I had this conversation with DS.

Me: look, if you want your shirts ironing, you need to do it ok.
DS: Ok, I don't think they need doing.
Me: no, it's hardly creased at all. (It's non iron but we all know that's a bit of an oxymoron)
The End - mother son like minded bonding session done.

30 mins later.

DP: I'm going to iron his shirts.
Me: why, they don't need it and I told him he needs to do it. That's some shirt ironing you are signing up for. Two DC, years of school, shirt a day = one million shirts.
DP: (disappointed but not surprised look) they do need ironing. I am doing it.

Context: they wear a blazer which he has so far not taken off. Whilst I would agree if he was just wearing a shirt, it would need ironing. However if you lined up two boys in blazers one ironed shirt and one not, there is no flipping way you could pick out which was which.

DP is the princess from princess and the pea.

They need ironing.
I say this as someone who doesn't iron anything else. Just school shirts.

SummerHouse · 12/09/2021 19:33

Damnit.

I don't iron them. They are under a v neck jumper and a blazer.

SummerHouse · 12/09/2021 19:34

Oh well at least I got out of doing it.

I trust you @Noshowwithoutpunch as I also iron nothing.

Always iron a shirt. Nothing worse than a creased shirt that’s not just from daily wear. The collars go all fly away too

SummerHouse · 12/09/2021 19:35

@NothingIsWrong

I don't iron them. They are under a v neck jumper and a blazer.
This is promising... Wine

I will iron a shirt for the very first day of term....but that's it Grin

nettytree · 12/09/2021 19:36

I don't iron them either. Waste of time..

10ColaBottles · 12/09/2021 19:36

I'm / or child is ironing until the jumper goes on as weather cools down. Then I will just bung on hangers when out of machine.

CatbellsQueen · 12/09/2021 19:36

That's why I buy M&S non iron shirts. If you get them straight out of the tumble dryer and onto a hanger they look fine

SummerHouse · 12/09/2021 19:37

This is like a game of tennis with the yes / no's. 🍿🍿🍿

I've never had to iron a M&S non iron shirt ever for the 7 years my DC had to wear them to School.

freelions · 12/09/2021 19:37

I always bought the 'non iron' school shirts from M&S that don't tend to crease much and never ironed a single school shirt!

StrongArm · 12/09/2021 19:37

Mine both went through the whole of school with not one ironed shirt. If you take them out the washing machine and hang dry, they don't need ironing

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 12/09/2021 19:37

Hang them up to dry on hangers - no ironing required.

This can be applied to most things tbh.

RubyFowler · 12/09/2021 19:38

Don't iron them here either.

PieMistee · 12/09/2021 19:38

I must have saved hours of my life bit ironing shirts. I work full time. I don't want to waste my free time on something unnecessary.

dementedma · 12/09/2021 19:38

I always did. 3 dcs, millions of shirts over the years. Now I rarely iron anything.

PieMistee · 12/09/2021 19:38

Bit : not

Sunshineandflipflops · 12/09/2021 19:38

School shirts and trousers are the only things I do iron.

Nomorefuckstogive · 12/09/2021 19:39

IMO school shirts are THE things that need ironing. Also work shirts. You can get away with not ironing most other things, but not those, unfortunately.

SummerHouse · 12/09/2021 19:39

@Tittie

I will iron a shirt for the very first day of term....but that's it Grin
Grin I did a week's worth. Just wondering where I collect my award?

I don't do it either, unless they are massively creased. I would rather re wash and drip dry than iron a gazillion school shirts. As you say, they are under a blazer. Life is too short.
If dp wants them done, then do can crack on and do it - that would be my take on it anyway.

Sunshineandflipflops · 12/09/2021 19:39

My two can generally get away with 1 shirt every 2 days though so not that many to iron really.

Michellebops · 12/09/2021 19:40

I iron them every week and they're under a pinafore 🙈
