Would you judge someone for having cubic zerconia stones

We have been married for over 40 years.
My original engagement and wedding rings are getting to tight.
DH wants to buy me a new set.
But the prices are very expensive for us pensioners. I have seen a lovely set in 9ct gold which has cz and not diamonds
Would you think Cheap if you saw them.
Or should I just get one diamond band even though I love wearing a solitaire

I doubt I'd even notice unless it was ridiculously big.

MMMarmite · 05/09/2021 19:47

I would definitely not notice!

Hyppogriff · 05/09/2021 19:55

I wouldn’t be able to tell. Just don’t mention it !

10000000% wouldn't notice either! And I say that as a diamond lover, I love mine but I'm no expert! You can get amazing rings from places like Carat, and stones like moissanite are also good diamond substitutes.

You can't tell the difference, get them!!

Justgivemewine · 05/09/2021 20:45

Firstly, no one would even know the difference.
Secondly, anyone who judged you wouldn’t be worth knowing anyway,

mumwon · 05/09/2021 20:48

blood diamonds too many of them isn't cubic zerconia artificial & therefore no one hurt in m the mining or in the buying & gaining money to profit violence, drugs slavery or war?
I couldn't tell the difference & I bet most people wouldn't be able to but if some (prat) did -you look down your nose & say you don't want to profit blood diamonds
But I second many pps & see if you can get it resized

LazySundayPlease · 05/09/2021 21:07

I've had my wedding and engagement rings resized, twice!

When I was pregnant I swelled up (literally) overnight and had to have both cut off (huge relief!). Got them fixed but then lost lots of weight and had to get them made smaller.

They look as good as new.

I suppose that depends how ethical the mining of the precious metals its set in is.

I need @Mariell to come back and tell us which one is the real diamond!
But I suppose it is a screenshot and not in-person. That would be the real test and I wish we could do it

blueshoes · 06/09/2021 01:23

PottersParties since you are a jeweller (no, not putting you in the spot Grin), can you tell the Cartier from the CZ?

blueshoes · 06/09/2021 01:26

I cannot tell the difference nor would I judge.

However, sometimes it is possible to tell CZ because the stone is unnaturally large. I have an inkling how much a quality diamond that size would cost £££ and if it is outside the wearer's affordability, it might raise a question mark but I would never be so rude as to ask.

liveforsummer · 06/09/2021 06:59

I doubt anyone would know. It might be obvious it's not a priceless heirloom but apart from that without close inspection no one would have a clue. Not that I'd care what anyone thinks if I liked something anyway

PottersParties · 06/09/2021 16:32

@blueshoes Grin B. If I’m wrong let’s blame internet photography!

LemonWeb · 06/09/2021 16:34

It’s just carbon. Who cares how the atoms are arranged?

PottersParties · 06/09/2021 16:39

Also, really good point above about how diamonds are mined. A lot of jewellers also use ethically-mined gold (e.g. no child labour) or recycled gold nowadays. If you’re buying jewellery and concerned about the origins of the metal or stones your jeweller should be able to tell you. Ideally down to the mine it came from for stones!

realteal · 06/09/2021 17:01

Cartier is B. You can tell by the claws.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 06/09/2021 17:21

It's really nice to read this thread. My favourite ring that I wear all the time is a stainless steel band, quite thick, set with a solitaire 1ct CZ. It sparkles like anything in the sun and I love it.

OP... only somebody devoid of any grace would judge you for your rings. Like and buy whatever your heart desires. :)

afaloren · 06/09/2021 17:25

Nobody will know, lovely. The value of diamonds is falsely inflated. Get what you like to wear and look at!

Cruel · 06/09/2021 17:26

B is more expensive

Anonmousse · 06/09/2021 17:28

Another jeweller here. I wouldnt judge any one else jewellery (although I often notice what jewellery people are wearing) but unless I looked with a loupe I probably wouldnt notice a cz if someone was wearing a ring. I would neccessarily need to weigh it or test it but I would need a 10x magnifying loupe.
OP I would also recommend speaking with a jeweller to get your original rings remodelled or resized and polished.
And not always possible to tell from photos but I'd guess b was the cartier ring.

ChequerBoard · 06/09/2021 17:28

I'm pretty sure that the Cartier ring is B as the real diamonds need full claw settings to prevent the risk of stone loss.

But personally, I prefer the modern clean lines look of A..l

Clearly I'm a jewellery heathen....

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/09/2021 17:29

I'd say B as there's a greyish tinge which diamonds tend to have.

MrsFlinch · 06/09/2021 17:39

Total guess would say B is most expensive but I haven’t really got a clue!

Tbh op I wouldn’t know a real diamond from Cz or white gold from silver and I’d probably not even give it a second thought if I saw anyone wearing Jewellery with stones.

I really don’t care what stones jewellery has, if i like it, then I like it!
