Would you judge someone for having cubic zerconia stones

We have been married for over 40 years.
My original engagement and wedding rings are getting to tight.
DH wants to buy me a new set.
But the prices are very expensive for us pensioners. I have seen a lovely set in 9ct gold which has cz and not diamonds
Would you think Cheap if you saw them.
Or should I just get one diamond band even though I love wearing a solitaire

No one can tell the difference. Some people have copies made of their originals which are kept in a safe / vault and happily wear CZ and no one is the wiser

BayandBlonde · 05/09/2021 17:57

I would choose a CZ over a 'blood' diamond any day. Lab produced diamonds are now becoming popular aswell

As long as its not huge no one will know and their opinion doesn't matter anyway, as long as you love it that's what matters. 🙂

Jeweller here Smile The great thing with cz’s is that since they’re man-made they’re super dependable. They don’t come with occlusions (discolouring) or cracks/pits that natural diamonds might have and which affect their resale value. Sometimes these aren’t documented because the carat is too small, and then if the stone cracks it can become expensive to replace.

The sparkle off a cz is beautiful, and while not the same as a diamond (only to practiced eyes, I’d argue) if you want a solitaire ring that you know you’ll enjoy, go for the cz.

PermanentTemporary · 05/09/2021 18:09

The last present my husband gave me before he died was a glass drop pendant. He knew I would quite have liked a diamond pendant if we'd ever been able to afford it, so it was a little joke in a way, but it was also so beautiful, I absolutely love it. Tbh if I'd worn a diamond that size it would have been ridiculous! Wear things you like, for you.

caughtinanet · 05/09/2021 18:12

In the nicest possible way will anyone give two hoots what ring you have?

There must be some very shallow people around if that's the kind of thing they judge others on.

weegiemum · 05/09/2021 18:38

My engagement ring I'd cz and it cost £27. At the time, we were poor students and that's all we could afford. I love it!

ISpyCobraKai · 05/09/2021 18:41

@Weegiemum.
Dd and her Bf are supposed to be poor students, I won't tell you what her ring cost! (You know me btw!)

stillcrazyafterall · 05/09/2021 18:42

@Changechangychange

Why don’t you just get the rings resized? Way cheaper, and you get to keep the existing diamonds.
This!
Mariell · 05/09/2021 18:53

Which ring is the most expensive -

A

B

One costs £80,000 and is made by Cartier.

One costs $48 and is CZ.

EmeraldRaine · 05/09/2021 18:57

If you fancy something different, why not ask a jeweller to design a new one using the metal and diamonds from your existing rings?

EmeraldRaine · 05/09/2021 18:57

A is nicer. But you can't really tell the difference.

MMM2 · 05/09/2021 18:57

My eternity ring is CZ and I wouldnt change it for all the diamonds in the world, so buy what you like.

TheHouseILiveIn · 05/09/2021 18:59

I'd say B.
RosesAndHellebores · 05/09/2021 19:00

I'd say A ??

TheHouseILiveIn · 05/09/2021 19:00

A doesn't look real to me. I'm willing to take one for the team and be embarrassed. And that will help OP Grin

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/09/2021 19:02

Confused how would I know?

I doubt I would even notice anyone's "stones".

thelastgoldeneagle · 05/09/2021 19:05

The only way you would be able to tell the difference is by weighing the stones!! CZ is heavier than diamond.

Go for it!

RainingYetAgain · 05/09/2021 19:07

We've been married over 40 years too. I have had my wedding ring resized twice- made larger and smaller.
I had my engagement ring remade when the settings "failed" and I lost a diamond when it dropped out. Apparently all the claws were coming loose. I think it cost more than the original ring but I wanted to keep the original sapphire central stone. It could have been a lot cheaper if I had agreed to have a smaller stone in a stock setting!
Worth investigating the options.

MistyMorns · 05/09/2021 19:12

@Mariell

B
Good game! I’m saying B is Cartier?!?

Can we have another one please? Smile

AKAanothername · 05/09/2021 19:21

I'd go for B too, very often one way to tell is by the thickness of the gold/platinum band. If the band is really thin then it's probably a cheaper stone.

catfunk · 05/09/2021 19:25

How can anyone tell?
Can you just get your old ones adjusted ?

KindnessMyFriends · 05/09/2021 19:39

No, but I would judge someone who judges someone for wearing cz!
