How the heck do you clean a toilet brush?!

They are truly gross things

Had a guest this weekend. A lovely considerate one and cleverly not her fault, she had a tummy upset and she has tried to clean the toilet but left the brush in a disgusting state.

I would bin without a second thought but it’s a beautiful toilet brush that perfectly matches my bathroom!

How do you clean?

Although at the moment… I’m thinking just bin it and suck up spending £28 on identical replacement!

What do you all do when your child has a poonami? Wash the clothes or throw them away?

Burntfingerz · 05/09/2021 08:47

@Miniroofbox

I put it in the dishwasher with the dog bowls on a long wash and do an empty long wash after.

In the words of John McEnroe..

" You cannot be serious"

That. Is . Disgusting.

Miniroofbox · 05/09/2021 08:48

I also used to put wheel trims in to clean them 😂😂😂😂. I also put the bin in as well (take the top tray out to fit) and the mop bucket.

@Marni83

I really can not grasp putting it in the dishwasher

Unbelievably gross

I’ve binned it and just purchased a silicone one!

Thanks all

Yes, absolutely.

I would do the same.

How the fuck can anyone put a shitty brush in a dishwasher used to clean plates and cutlery that they eat off is beyond me.

Right put me off my breakfast this morning.

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

Well the dog can't take it's shoes off when it comes in so I would say if you own a dog washing it's bowls in a hot dishwasher wash is ridiculous. It must lick and drool around the place why the paranoia over bowls.

Obviouspretzel · 05/09/2021 08:52

In the dishwasher :haha: fuck no.

Obviouspretzel · 05/09/2021 08:53

Fail on the emoji there...

SwanShaped · 05/09/2021 08:56

Haha, dishwasher!!!!

Dillydollydingdong · 05/09/2021 08:57

I don't use one, disgusting unhygienic things. A squirt of bleach round the bowl does the trick, no problem.

BronzeBalonze · 05/09/2021 08:57

How can they get that filthy if they are used regularly? I use mine daily and then put it in the toilet pan and do extra flush.
I guess might need a soak in a bucket for a bit.
I see you have bought a replacement anyway.

Tempted to do away with mine and just use a cloth tbh. Toilet is always clean except what's just landed and that flushes away anyway so it's more about keeping limescale away

Just musing....

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 05/09/2021 08:59

@cheeseismydownfall

Honestly, buying countless cheap brushes and using gallons of bleach is completely unnecessary and wasteful. Get a silicon brush. No need for the expensive Joseph Joseph one, ours were about £8 from Amazon and as far as I can tell will last forever.
While I agree that buying cheap ones and throwing them away when they’re perfectly usable but dirty is wasteful, no one is using “gallons” of bleach to clean them and throwing away a perfectly usable brush to replace it with another, silicone one is just as wasteful as a quick swish of bleach in the toilet to clean both brush and toilet since the toilet needs cleaning regularly anyway.
brokenbiscuitsx · 05/09/2021 09:01

@cheeseismydownfall

Also I am the singularly most lax person I know about hygiene and even I think the idea of putting a toilet brush in the dishwasher is unspeakably grim.
Same, I did a little heave when I read that 🤮🤮🤮
IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 05/09/2021 09:01

Put it in a bucket and fill it with boiling water and some sort of cleaner, leave it to soak then rinse until clean.

Dizzy1234 · 05/09/2021 09:02

Is it in a holder? I stand mine over the outside drain and fill the toilet brush holder with neat bleach and put the brush in it, leave overnight, then run lots of hot water over it, using the kettle.

manchote · 05/09/2021 09:03

Eughhh dishwasher Grin

There is a type you can get, I think it's called Flush Brush where only the handle sits outside the toilet on a special stand and the scrubber bit (which pops off) sits in a little holder inside the toilet just under the seat - so it sort of gets cleaned each time you flush and feels a lot more hygienic than having a poo stick constantly on show in your bathroom

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 05/09/2021 09:03

Me too. I'll happily put the cat's food bowl in the dishwasher which for some reason a lot of people think is gross. No idea why. It's food. But a loo brush? A big nope from me. I could do 10 empty cycles afterwards and I'd still not want to eat off a plate run through it.

Gooseysgirl · 05/09/2021 09:06

Fucking hell!!! 🤮 In a million years I wouldn't put a toilet brush in the dishwasher! Poonami clothing I bin if it's not salvageable, otherwise gets rinsed in a bucket outdoors and chucked down outside drain before it goes near the washing machine.

CatherineCawood · 05/09/2021 09:07

You need a Joseph and Joseph brush. £££ but worth it. Mind you when I say £££ I git mine off Amazon for just under £20 so significantly less than your previous one.

J and J one will stay clean.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/09/2021 09:07

I flush the toilet and hold it under the most powerful part of the flush to rinse it.

This

Although I don’t have them in the first place. Wouldn’t they drip moving them from toilet to stand. Yuck

If I did have one then I’d do an extra clean flush with it in the toilet, then I’d leave it in there with some bleach.

I'm still put off my scrambled egg and bacon this morning at the thought of a shitty loo brush being put in the dishwasher.

Nearly spat my tea out on my laptop, stick in the dishwasher with the dog bowls Grin

starfishmummy · 05/09/2021 09:14

You bin it.
You can buy them in IKEA for as little as 60p. Ideal for situations like this.

Or use one of those toilet duck disposable ones

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 05/09/2021 09:14

I only buy one that have little containers inside, which i put toilet cleanr and water and keep the brush in that.

Otherwise after use I let it steep a while in the toilet after scrubbing and flushing and then you can ensure it's clean with more flushing and if you like to keep it dry, then by rolling the handle between your palms (think fire lighting with sticks) with the bristles in the toilet basin you can get it pretty dry.

Miniroofbox · 05/09/2021 09:15

😂😂😂 it sits in bleach in the holder thing and gets cleaned after every use. Bleach all around it on the toilet bowl, leave it there and flush next time I’m at the loo. And it’s double flushed if used anyway.
