If you exercise every day how often do you wash..

..your gym kit?!

I'm worrying if I'm pretty gross. I exercise daily, when I finish I take my kit off, jump in the shower and hang it up in the bathroom ready to use the next day. I feel a bit gross when I put it on the following day but within 10 mins I'm sweating and it's soaked again, this routine happens about 4/5 times before the kit gets washed. Am I revolting?🙈🙈🙈

I wash after every workout - to the extent that I’d rather miss a workout than wear unwashed gear. As this article explains, odour isn’t the problem, bacteria is

In reality, it's not going to do you any harm. It might smell, depending on your sweat levels but that's all.

BraveGoldie · 04/09/2021 18:05

I'm another every day washer with multiple cheap sets of leggings and T-shirt's. But whatever works for you! Smile

purplesequins · 04/09/2021 18:06

I have to say, whilst my stuff smells sweaty, the male stuff in the house (dh and ds) stinks.

ichundich · 04/09/2021 18:07

I take mine off as soon as I finish and find that this way it doesn't really smell. I wear bra and leggings 3 or 4 times and tops 2 or 3 times.

Shhhhhhhshh · 04/09/2021 18:07

Every day. The thought of putting on yesterday’s kit, crispy with dried sweat makes me feel quite ill tbh!

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 04/09/2021 18:09

Ha - I’m with you OP. It goes on a hook in the laundry room and I use the whole lot (bra, shorts and vest) 4 times before a wash. Yes it’s a it smelly by the last day but I’m going for a run in the woods at 6am. The chance of anyone being offended by my odours is low and I don’t care myself.

I could not bring myself to launder that kit each time I used it - madness!!!

And even if I was going to a gym class id get a couple of wears. Shorts and vest are wringing with sweat after a run - they’re just damp.

So shoot me Wink

LondonTTC · 04/09/2021 18:10

I wash mine every single time I wear it. It's a pain as I regularly exercise but I couldn't wear it twice.

I have to say, at some classes I can smell the person next to me who hasn't washed their kit. I wonder if they can't 'smell themselves' as it's them. It makes me feel sick.

I don't mean to be rude but I would avoid being next to you if you had a dirty kit. Its also not great for your skin to be in dirty, sweaty clothes.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 04/09/2021 18:10

Sorry arent wringing with sweat. If yours are, all power to you and your workout Smile

actiongirl1978 · 04/09/2021 18:10

I keep wearing it until its really manky. I exercise in our outdoor open garage. I see no-one.

Liverbird77 · 04/09/2021 18:20

Decathlon has tops for a fiver and leggings for around £12.
Get a few and you'll be sorted!

TheWeatherWitch · 04/09/2021 18:23

I throw all my gym clothes into the washer every time I come home. A quick wash with some Unstoppables and then I’m confident I don’t stink and neither does my clothes.

Wouldn’t dream of wearing my sweaty clothes a second time.

Livefortherain · 04/09/2021 18:25

DH goes to the gym every morning before work, I wash his kit as soon as he gets home from work. But he has a second set of clothes which he'll wear for the next day.

Daisy62 · 04/09/2021 18:41

Aerobics classes - clean kit. Running - I’m outside on my own and don’t care, so any kit will do. Yoga - would wear stuff a couple of times. If I think the kit isn’t clean enough for classes, I might wear it for running before I wash it.

TaraR2020 · 04/09/2021 18:46

If I get remotely sweaty, it's washed after each use. For light yoga where his doesn't happen I treat it as a I do normal clothing, which might mean the same.

Sports Bras etc washed everytime.

Peachee · 04/09/2021 18:49

Omg ! Who cares! Well done to you for bloody exercising every day!!!! That’s amazing.. I haven’t exercised properly in years! Who cares when it gets washed the main thing is you are fit, healthy and taking care of yourself! Did the washing xx

Peachee · 04/09/2021 18:49

Did = *sod

He must love your washerwoman skills while you adjust your apron. Could he wash them himself by any chance?
Stellaris22 · 04/09/2021 18:52

It amuse some me about how most people here are strict about washing clothing. I do hope you are as keen on cleaning equipment after you've used it at the gym.

I don't care if someone's sweaty, but not cleaning equipment after use is not pleasant. People are at the gym to work out, judging someone because they sweat or are a bit smelly is horrible.

Stopteasingme · 04/09/2021 18:59

Maybe he's busy changing the baby or mopping the floor? Hmm

Stopteasingme · 04/09/2021 19:00

OP that is completely revolting I have to say. I run a lot and go to the gym and wouldn't dream of wearing the same kit twice, you could even hand wash it in the shower and just hang out? You must smell grim.

Polmuggle · 04/09/2021 19:05

I don't think it's grim at all!

I run three or four times a week 5k/40mins and use the same kit all week. Then wash.

Yes, I’m equally as fastidious about cleaning gym equipment after use Smile
EarringsandLipstick · 04/09/2021 19:18

Absolutely. I always was. However, surely post-Covid, cleaning equipment with antibacterial wipes is mandatory everywhere? It is where I work out.

Stellaris22 · 04/09/2021 19:31

It's meant to be mandatory at the gym I go to, and there are fully stocked cleaning stations. But many people still just move on from the equipment they've used without cleaning.

Being sweaty for me isn't an issue, it's a gym so of course you'll sweat. I wear gym clothes a few times between washes and go twice a day most days. It's not exactly grim or gross to wear clothes a few times, much more sustainable than buying lots of clothes and washing constantly.
