I think that would be a great idea myrtleWilson. I still miss the ice rink😀.
My freezer is jam packed, I need to spend a day do a spreadsheet, but no one else would mark items off, so it would just end up annoying me.
My teenagers use to go to gym pre covid, now they just stay in their room, playing computer games😏

PickAChew · 25/05/2022 23:10

I've been lobbying for a chest freezer in the garage. Somehow, there is never room for one 🤔He🤔He only has 3 toolboxes in there because he never tidies his shit up and can't find stuff 😡

MsMarvellous · 26/05/2022 06:59

Must try harder. I lobbied and got an upright fridge (beer and cans of pop) and a second freezer for spare bread, batch cooking, and meat. This despite it being actually used for his actual posh car 🤣.

I say lobbied. I just didn't shut up about it for months.

Mine are off school tomorrow and I have to work. So that's going to be fun.

myrtleWilson · 26/05/2022 07:33

I contemplated getting a mini fridge purely for jars of anchovies, mustards, pickles etc. as it does my head in that a shelf is taken up with things that I use one teaspoon at a time. Either that or I need a deli/weigh shop for jarred goods so I can buy proportionately and not waste money and space!

Someaddedsugar · 26/05/2022 07:35

@myrtleWilson I feel your pain with the condiments. DP buys so many sauces and jars of things but like you say uses a tiny amount each time so the shelf doesn't ever empty. A mini fridge just for condiments would be amazing.

I hope we find a house soon and I can have a mini fridge 😂.

I wish the ice rink was still here @AlviarinAesSedai. I imagine now that people are out and about again it would be popular too!

There's a Pizza Punks opening soon near the Odeon - the one in Newcastle is popular with teens and the pizzas are lovely. It's v family friendly too.

AlviarinAesSedai · 26/05/2022 08:37

Pizza punks is open @Someaddedsugar . We went not long after they opened. Prices are okay, but I had a couple of cocktails 🍸😉. I had a buy one get one free voucher. Would definitely go again.
Durham city could also do with a skate park. The one at Chester le street park is well used.
The splash park at Chester le Street opening times have been advertised. My children would have loved it, but we just had the paddling pool. Which they loved, but the splash park is next level fun. I think they should open it on an evening just for the teenagers, safe fun.

Oh you're house hunting. What're you after?

Someaddedsugar · 27/05/2022 06:12

Oooh fab @AlviarinAesSedai. For some reason DS loves it so will be booking now they're in Durham!

That's such a good idea for teenagers and the splash park having a time for them. It's always so busy during the day isn't it.

@MsMarvellous it's an ongoing search. I've had some very kind posters on this board keep an eye out too 😊 but haven't found anywhere affordable yet. Either outer edges of Durham City or west end of Darlington. Both would be walking distance from a train station and that's the ideal for my work and social things. And a big kitchen/dining area is a must 😂.

Anyone go to Durham Pride yesterday?

smudgeminnie · 29/05/2022 18:09

Someaddedsugar · 25/05/2022 17:18

I've never lived there but Sedgefield looks like a lovely village if you were looking at various options. We live the other side of Durham in a village but there isn't much here for teens. Lanchester is a nice option near us? Although houses are pricier.

Thank you, Lanchester has been suggested to me a few times now, so I think it will be worth looking around there.

smudgeminnie · 29/05/2022 18:16

MsMarvellous · 25/05/2022 18:21

@Someaddedsugar sounds like you're my way.

Lanchester and Wolsingham are both lovely but expensive. Do you have to be the side you are looking for work or similar?

Thank you for the suggestions, I'm going to have a look around both those areas too, (although my budget isn't huge tbh).
I am currently running my own business, as it easier to fit work around the children's school holidays etc, so I'm planning on continue working for myself at least until the ds is older.

smudgeminnie · 29/05/2022 18:22

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 25/05/2022 18:53

Someaddedsugar I forget where you are. Obviously not far from me if Lanchester is local.

I'm not familiar with Kelloe, I've never lived that side.

I'm West of Durham and agree some villages are lovely and some less so. I think that sometimes people forget that it is a different type of rural, more abandoned mining villages than farming. Many of the villages were just deliberately left to die after the mines closed with housing demolished and deliberate removal of amending amenities and funding.

Ours is friendly and has the benefit of being walking distance to shops and primary schools in the next village and also having pretty regular buses so the teens are mostly independent getting places.

Thank you for your reply.
I'm coming up to have a good look around this week. Are there any places that you would recommend looking at, (or equally ones to avoid in your opinion, although I don't want to offend anyone!)?

Generally, the nearer to Durham City, the better. There are good spots elsewhere but they tend to be in very small localities eg one or two streets in a particular village. Sedgefield is lovely but very expensive, for example.

Knowing your budget and what you want and need wouid be useful.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 30/05/2022 08:01

As PickaChew says, the nice and the rough sit alongside each other. Depends what you want from a place too. Are schools important or will you be going private? Most places have good primary schools, you are unlikely to be in an "over my dead body" situation with primary but secondary can be more difficult. Do you want rural or access to a high street? Buses or walkable/ cycling distance to Durham? Lots of factors.

AlviarinAesSedai · 31/05/2022 07:05

Good luck to Durham city of culture bid.

Someaddedsugar · 31/05/2022 07:32

Is the result today @AlviarinAesSedai? It'd be great for the north east if Durham does win!

AlviarinAesSedai · 31/05/2022 12:03

Yes, will be announced on The One Show this evening. 🤞🏻

AlviarinAesSedai · 31/05/2022 20:01

Durham didn’t win, 😞

MsMarvellous · 31/05/2022 20:16

Bloody Bradford 😭

AlviarinAesSedai · 31/05/2022 20:21

I know!!
But we will always have the Cathedral.

Someaddedsugar · 31/05/2022 20:22

@smudgeminnie I live in Lanchester so feel free to ask any questions about the village that you might have!

Flumpaphone · 01/06/2022 11:45

@Someaddedsugar I'm in Darlington so if you are looking at the West End in your house hunt, I'm happy to try and answer questions

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/06/2022 03:30

@Someaddedsugar @Flumpaphone me too . In the west end
