@SecretSpAD

One more thing....why are there no stories in the press about the other private planes run by defence contractors and general arseholes who were charging a small fortune to fly people out of the country.
Or more being made of how records of every person who worked for the occupying armies were left behind for ease of Taliban use unforeseen reasons rather than being destroyed prior to the evacuations.

Strange, that.

"The fact he took the dogs with him, is very probably of comfort to those he had to leave."

Oh my fucking god.

Plumtree391 · 01/09/2021 22:30

I never knew God had sexual intercourse (shows He couldn't have been CofE).

The people Pen Farthing had to leave behind, he had to leave behind. I'm sure they felt wretched, so did he, there was no choice at the time. However we live in hope that they will get out.

SunscreenCentral · 01/09/2021 22:31

Nobody nobody needed dogs guy in the middle of this absolute shit.
It's the equivalent of someone showing up in famine-stricken Ethiopia saying will no-one think of the goats
If people are that bloody worried, get yourself down to your local rescue and bring one back to yours, free up a space

There's a report in The Telegraph tonight about the report warning The Foreign Office of what was likely about to occur, which landed on desks in July. This wasn't something that just 'happened'. It wasn't a natural disaster. It was the consequence of American decisions and actions and NATO nations' tragically slow response (save France). If you want to get angry, get angry at those in power, not those who realised they were caught in a shit show and fought to remove all they cared about from it. If we get angry enough, the government might actually extricate some more people - such as the dozens of female politicians we encouraged into public life and who are now in hiding. Of course they'd much prefer we just kept chuntering on about cats and dogs instead.

Piccalino3 · 01/09/2021 22:51

@ScribblingPixie I absolutely agree with you. Possibly a stupid question but what do we do to get angry with our government? How do we tell them this is unacceptable. I have no doubt that they knew this was going to happen, as usual, they just didn't care and even with this heartless lot that still surprises me.

Piccalino, I wish I knew! All I do know is that Boris Johnson is a populist. He listens to public opinion and tailors policy accordingly. So I'm making sure I comment everywhere online I get the chance, particularly Conservative-supporting newspapers. Maybe the Taliban will allow more people to leave, in which case Boris needs to know that people are going to be judging him on this and we're not going to balk at the idea of large numbers of Afghan refugees arriving.

As i made the point previously. This is not an either/or situation where you are either angry at the government or annoyed at this animal rescue.

It is perfectly possible to be upset and very angry at both for completely different reasons.

As i said before i grow tired of this juvenile nonsense where you have almost 'pick a side' and always remain on that side.

I said there are huge issues regarding the government making a huge hash of the whole thing but thats doesn't mean this incident hasn't compounded problems at the crunch in the sticky end of the withdrawal.

Both deserve criticism in their own ways and both reflect huge problems with governance generally (because of the lobbying and cronyism angle) - which Pen was able to utilise and exploit.

ScribblingPixie · 01/09/2021 23:32

The animal rescue flight is done and dusted, RedToothBrush. What matters is discussion of what we can do to improve the situation for Afghans. By continuing to focus on this side issue, when there may still be the potential to help Afghan people, aren't you doing exactly what you have been complaining about?

RedToothBrush · 01/09/2021 23:40

It still raises questions about lobbying in the uk. This is a separate issue but its still an important one which is an ongoing domestic political issue.

RedToothBrush · 01/09/2021 23:42

Also there are potential diplomatic and security issues that alienating individuals and appearing untrustworthy / racist raise for british operations around the world - including in Afghanistan but not exclusively restricted to Afghanistan.

But ive also made that point on this thread already and its clearly been ignored too.

@TheSinger- that’s so lovely, reading that is heartwarming. Thank you for sharing that 💜

knittingaddict · 02/09/2021 12:46

What on earth did TheSinger post? That's a lot of deletions.

Raggedyanabell · 02/09/2021 20:47

I would not tread on anything, be it ant or child. I did once tread on a slug by accident and cried my eyes out. I don’t see it as a failing to care for all life. In fact, I’d probably feel worse if I accidentally trod on an ant cause the ant - and animals in general - are just going about their life. If a child ran in front of my car, I’d be sad it happened of course, but I don’t deem it a bigger loss. A child could grow up to be a bad person we all wish didn’t exist…you can’t say that about an ant! Animals hold an innocence that no human ever can.

Im just reading my way though the thread but couldn't get past this, you absolute whopper 🤣🤣🤣
