EssexLioness · 29/08/2021 01:40

Welcome everyone, this is a thread for all of those that would like to support each other in the lead up to Christmas, in our efforts to reduce our waists. All those that suspect or are going through perimenopause are welcome.
I have tagged everyone from our August thread: this thread is for September onwards, so we can continue using the old thread in the meantime. @Katekarate @ginsparkles @CakeandGo @badpuma @HelpMeTree @RoseAddict @SailorGeri @Bambooshoot @LlamaofDrama @GreySweater @MrsDThomas @shallwegoforawalk @torquewench @foxandbee @HoliHormonalTigerLilly @pastaparadise @theghostofchristmasarse @CharmingScene @Rupeertpenrysmistress @katplva @OverbyYer @dudsville @isthismylifenow @boon @ThatsAllFolks @AliciaMayEmory @Cornishbelle @Purplepeopleeaterz @Eggmcmuffin @MinnieMountain @AttaGirrrrl @TheRealKateAdie @Badgerstmary @Jackieweaverishere @pinkcattydude @EarringsandLipstick @VivaDixie @AliciaMayEmory @JMAngell @GarethBatesManBun @polkadotpjs @HappyHedgehog247 @Tiggles @Leftbutcameback @Itwasgoodwhileitlasted @Timeforredwine

Oh and I relate to the lack of sleep so much. I went to bed early last night but still only managed 5 hours. It’s better than the 3-4 hours a night I got before HRT but still not enough imo

I'm knackered too so seems like I'm in good company. Going to zonk myself out with an otc sleeping tablet tonight .

Have a good weekend with your sister @EssexLioness

ginsparkles · 04/09/2021 06:55

Finally got a full nights sleep! Back to work today so I can control the food better. Today will be a good day .

Have a lovely time away @EssexLioness

I found you! The tag didn't work for some reason. I've been checking in but not been posting. @EssexLioness so pleased to hear that the HRT is going well.

I've been trying to do some running but have ended up with sciatica and a bulging disc so that's not going too well Sad I'm seeing a private physio so hopefully will get back to more exercise soon, though I think yoga will be better than running.

Food wise, low carb isn't going well, I had a massive pizza last night. It doesn't agree with me, so I really need to find alternatives. Any tips? I did find a pizza /sushi takeaway but not sure I like sushi more than pizza....

I bought a very sexy, quite tight fitting dress but didn't feel good in it at all so had to return it. I really need some toning up.

@EssexLioness did you see the personal trainer? Any tips for core strength exercises? Did they say anything about needing cardio work at this stage of life?

pamplemoussed · 04/09/2021 08:51

I’m in too.

CatsLikeBoxes · 04/09/2021 09:28

Can I join you all, please?
Am 50, and my tummy used to be fairly flat whatever my weight, but now it has a life of its own!
I started doing lots of exercise in lockdown 1 - 1hr you tube work out, long walk and yoga each day, but that all fell by the wayside when I went back into work.
I have eaten loads and hardly done any exercise over the summer holidays - am back to work Monday so will be doing lots of walking, and am hoping I can summon the willpower to get exercising on top of that too. And should be eating less when I don't have unfettered access to the kitchen cupboards!
Waist 36"
Widest part of hips which includes belly 44"
Biggest part of thighs 46"!
Under boob chest is 36" but don't think that can change much as I don't have much fat there, it prefers to linger on my waist, hips and thighs!

zighead · 04/09/2021 21:44

Welcome @CatsLikeBoxes
Good luck for going back to work on Monday. My tummy has gone the same, I never used to put weight on in that area until these last few years. The joys of middle age Hmm

keiratwiceknightly · 05/09/2021 14:53

Right so I am back to work tomorrow and time to sort this out.

I'm currently about 11st 12 - want to lose a stone. I have a waist, but also have a tummy - I do a lot of yoga and have developed a frontal bulge even though there is muscle elsewhere, it's like the fat has been squeezed forward?!

Cutting waaaay down on carbs and booze. I'll allow some at weekends. Upping water, f and v and walking.

keiratwiceknightly · 05/09/2021 14:55

I'm so impressed to read some of the stories especially essexlioness. I keep hearing how hard it is to lose weight at our age (and it is!) so this is bloody inspiring. Well done!

ginsparkles · 06/09/2021 07:26

Ok so here we go, it's Monday, a new week, DD back to school and I'm back to work.

Doing 16:8 on work days, will take a salad or pasta pot for lunch each day and have the meals for the evenings planned out. Good old fashioned baked spuds tonight!!

I am meeting a trainer at the gym on Wednesday to put together a programme for me, so hopefully a gym session a couple of times a week plus a swim twice a week will help!

queenrollo · 06/09/2021 09:01

I just came across this thread so I am going to join you all.
I'm 46, peri for about 6 years but only got the GP to believe me this year.

I'm in the club of people who never really gained weight until the last three years when it has all gone on my belly. It bothers me because it is so uncomfy, especially when I sit down. Half my clothes are off limits as they put too much pressure on my stomach and exacerbate my (new to me) gastric issues.
Also have this weird ring of fat right where my bra line is.

I had two months on Novofem and most of my symptoms disappeared or improved, but unfortunately it saw the return of horrible headaches (i used to get them on the pill) so I had to come off it. I did notice the fat on my stomach reducing though, and it's got worse in the two months since I stopped Novofem.
I am now waiting for my period to arrive so I can start the patches I have been prescribed.

I go to the gym once a week with my PT. And when my DS starts back at school this week I am planning to get back from school run and go straight out on a circuit walk around the village.

ginsparkles · 06/09/2021 20:38

Hi all, how was your day?

Successful day here, did a good fast, and came in under calories at 1154.

Found a tape measure so will take measurements and report back!

CatsLikeBoxes · 07/09/2021 07:32

I started the week well exercise-wise - did 45 mins workout before work. It was the first day of term, and I was on my feet all day, did over 12k steps but then spoilt things by feeling getting home and snacking before dinner. I'm hoping that once I'm back into the swing of more exercise I'll be able to resist snacks. And I want to re-start evening yoga as that will fill the time temptation can also kick in.
This morning I did 30 mins of stomach exercises, leg exercises and some flexibility yoga stretches.

ginsparkles · 08/09/2021 08:25

Morning! Hope everyone is ok. Another day under calories yesterday, took measurements this morning, mostly not a surprise but the tummy is definitely bigger than a year ago.

Today I get my program at the gym! Should be interesting!!!

How's everyone else doing?

boon · 08/09/2021 08:51

Morning all. Just a little update from me. I lost a few lbs in my first week - 5lb - which is crazy as I have never lost that much in 1 week before. But, I did weigh the day I got back from holiday for the 11st 10lb start weight so maybe a lot of the loss was water?? I weighed on Friday at 11st 5.4lb. Im not expecting a loss like that again. I need to get back to healthy BMI and out of the overweight category. Im walking everyday (cant do much else due to back issues) and counting cals on myfitness app. Im expecting a much smaller loss this week. Im enjoying eating much healthier than before and smaller portion sizes. Fingers crossed I can stick with it.

ginsparkles · 08/09/2021 12:19

Well done @boon !!!

boon · 09/09/2021 14:49

Is anybody here taking vitamins to help with peri menopause? I was thinking of buying the Wellwoman ones but not sure.

ginsparkles · 09/09/2021 17:57

I have a general multi vitamin from Holland and Barrett but have been considering something more specific.

How's everyone doing? Foods been rubbish the last couple of days (I fell into a packet of chocolate digestives whilst filling out inheritance tax forms today) but exercise has been good. Gym session yesterday and then a long walk and a swim today.

EssexLioness · 09/09/2021 22:52

Hi everyone, I am back after a lovely few days away. Turns out I didn’t have any reception so couldn’t go online. Weather was gorgeous and I walked for miles. I did overindulge food wise and gained 2lb, but back on it tomorrow.
@keiratwiceknightly thank you! It’s not been easy but I have seen results slowly and surely.
@Jackieweaverishere PT sessions have been going really well. We haven’t been doing cardio really as I said I wanted to tone and focus on bone strength to help prevent osteoporosis. I do plenty of cardio with running 3 times a week for 40 mins, and often other bits through the week. Core exercises have included mat work with weights, and lots of balance exercises eg using an exercise ball.
Sounds like everyone has been doing brilliantly… well done on all your progress! 😊

I've slipped off the radar a bit sorry.
Ran an ultramarathon last weekend (my first!) and have spent the week absolutely starving and stuffing my face 😂
Have healthy meals planned over the weekend, then properly on it from Monday

EssexLioness · 10/09/2021 14:49

Wow, huge congratulations on your ultramarathon @Happyface120! I think a bit of stuffing your face is entirely called for 😊

Hello,

Can I join in please. I'm peri and just taken my first 4 weeks of Femoston. I swear my boobs and bum have doubled despite me eating smaller portions and upping exercise ConfusedHmm

So apart from Christmas my first goal to lose some pounds is a family 21st on 26th November. I have 3 Dalmatians I should really walk more but I struggle lugging my tired hormonal body about. I don't do any other exercise. I work in a coffee shop 5 days over 7 for 6 hours a day and don't have food breaks so I find after that shift which is busy, I want a cup of tea and food.

My DH loves cooking and I love eating 🤣

I want to lose about 3 stone. Thank you for reading ladies xxx

WeeChewy · 11/09/2021 22:10

@boon I take magnesium, a Vit b and d complex and I take sage tablets which are meant to assist with the sweaty drench. I haven't seen much improvement mainly because I take one then forget the second dose. I had a wee bit of heartburn with them too. There were great reviews for them though. Xx

keiratwiceknightly · 12/09/2021 07:12

Morning. Just popping in to report a 3lb loss this week which I'm v pleased with. Takes me a whisker under the very top of healthy BMI. Lots more of this to come I hope.
