I'm in my early 50s and just can't find anything I want to listen to. Radio 4 seems depressing (tho really it's just I can't cope with news/current affairs any more!) radio 1 and 2 dont do it for me, radio 6 I find a bit too out there....I just don't know what to listen to any more. I used to be fairly broad minded in terms of musical tastes, having had all manner of phases, from rock to heavy metal to folk to blues to indy to dance to classical, to the stuff my teenagers listen to. Maybe thats my problem, I don't have a genre! I know there are all manner of radio stations out there that I could access with my Alexa, but I just don't know what or where to start. Can anyone inspire me by sharing what stations work for them?? Thanks!

You need to find the DJ you like on 6 music. They all play such different music. Or, get Spotify and do your own playlists.

Watto1 · 28/08/2021 18:31

Absolute 80’s or Absolute 90’s. I share an office with one other lady the same age and we alternate between these two. I like 90’s but she thinks it’s got to much ‘heavy rock’ ie Blur and Oasis Confused. She likes 80’s but I get sick of the Stock Aitken and Waterman . Alternate days is a good compromise!

kimlo · 28/08/2021 18:33

I listen to bbc sounds, audible, spotify or amazon music.

AlCalavicci · 28/08/2021 18:36

I listen to Absoult radio , they have a diffent station for each decade fro. The 50s up to now .
They also have rock and new country station . I tend to listen to 80s , and country .
They also have some good comps and reg slots you can phone / text in to.

GoodnightGrandma · 28/08/2021 18:37

I’m on Virgin Anthems.

TheCanyon · 28/08/2021 18:37

Me and dh have massively different music tastes, but we both love the armed forces BFBS station, such a strangely wonderful mix of tunes and not much guff. New pop, old school rock/blues and NO repeats. Absolute classic rock used to be my go to, but I fair enjoy BFBS these days.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/08/2021 18:38

Radio 4 extra is mainly comedies and plays.

ceilingfaninmyspoon · 28/08/2021 18:38

Cheesy FM Grin

CoastalSwimmer · 28/08/2021 18:39

I like a mixture of Radio 4, Magic Radio and occasionally Radio 3, Absolute 80s or Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 2. I also listen to podcasts and Audible books. I find variety is the way to go!

HumbugWhale · 28/08/2021 18:39

Absolute and Absolute 90s are my favourites. Absolute mixes a lot of older music with new stuff.

Kiduknot · 28/08/2021 18:39

I like magic.

I’m your age and it’s nostalgic.

Unihorn · 28/08/2021 18:39

I go between Virgin Anthems and Virgin Chilled most of the time but also like Absolute, Mellow Magic and Smooth.

DottyHarmer · 28/08/2021 18:40

Greatest Hits radio is good for the car/cooking he dinner. I like the US old hits they play.

stripedbananas · 28/08/2021 18:41

I tend to listen to Heart in the car for that same reason

NeedToKnow101 · 28/08/2021 18:42

Download the TuneIn app and find zillions of stations worldwide.
Personally I alternate between 6 Music, especially at the weekend, and Radio 4, with the odd soul / dance music station found on Tune-in.

stripedbananas · 28/08/2021 18:42

And home I pick and choose on BBC Sounds

lifeinlimbo2020 · 28/08/2021 18:42

BBC radio 6 🙌🏻

NeedToKnow101 · 28/08/2021 18:43

Btw I'm your age too.

cungryhow · 28/08/2021 18:45

BBC 6 music for me, agree, find the shows you like and stick Absolute on for the ones you don’t.

NeedToKnow101 · 28/08/2021 18:47

My top 6 Music DJs (for music) are: Craig Charles ❤️, the Blessed Madonna, Tom Robinson, Cerys Matthews, Guy Garvey, and Giles Peterson when he's not too esoteric.
Iggy Pop is great, as is whssime

ColinKnocksTwoPence · 28/08/2021 18:48

I'm in my mid 50s and listen to Pirate FM.
It also gives you the Surf report as well, which is handy.

MrsDThomas · 28/08/2021 18:51

I love radio 2, smooth, dragon, magic, absolute, radio cymru.
