What word do you use for this autumn based activity

You are in a park in autumn and there are piles of leaves on the ground.

What word, if any, would you use to describe moving through those leaves?

e.g. They were / They through the leaves.

Testing a theory!

Jumping/jumped?

Kanaloa · 27/08/2021 00:05

Running round in leaves. Wouldn’t really think of it as a specific activity, just the way we get through the park in October.

SecondCityShark · 27/08/2021 00:06

Or bounded.

StarryStarrySocks · 27/08/2021 00:07

I think I'd say kicking through the leaves.

JuneOsborne · 27/08/2021 00:07

They crunched through the leaves?

Don't kids always run through kicking the leaves high up so it rains leaves? And dog shit.

LongDissidence · 27/08/2021 00:07

Scarby9 · 27/08/2021 00:20

I would only ever use that verb for the way you move through autumn leaves.

Shushling shushulled (Same sort of rhythm as with russled)
Are these actual words??
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2021 00:29

Kicking
Gallumphing

Scarby9 · 27/08/2021 00:30

@Blindleadingtheblind
Well, they are the 'words' I was brought up using to describe precisely this activity. I've never tried to write them down before, and I'm not 100% happy with the spelling ( hence my inclusion of the comparison word).
They may not be in any dictionary, but OP asked what I would say - and that's what I and all my family would say!

EBearhug · 27/08/2021 00:34

Kicking or shuffling, depending on just how they are moving through them.
