What word do you use for this autumn based activity

You are in a park in autumn and there are piles of leaves on the ground.

What word, if any, would you use to describe moving through those leaves?

e.g. They were / They through the leaves.

Testing a theory!

Crunched/ trudged depending on the weather 😂.

Ingridla · 27/08/2021 00:38

Kicking through the leaves was my initial thought, but now I'm questioning myselfHmmGrin

HunkyPunk · 27/08/2021 00:39

Like a pp, I think ‘rustled’ is the best word to use with leaves, closely followed by ‘swished’!

purpleme12 · 27/08/2021 00:48

Kicking the leaves

Dry leaves: run, kick, jump, bound, pelt, mosey, amble
Wet leaves: tramp, trudge, slither, slip, stride, stumble.

Why are we doing this, please?

Jeff Wayne says it's kicking:

"Through.autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way"

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/08/2021 07:30

Shuffling.

WisestIsShe · 27/08/2021 07:34

I'd say, they investigated or explored the leaves.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 27/08/2021 07:38

We’d just say swishing or kicking.

This is an extremely satisfying thread OP!

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 27/08/2021 07:40

The word would depend on how they are are moving. It could be any of the ones above. Is your theory that everyone would say something different? If so you've been proved correct Smile

TheSockMonster · 27/08/2021 07:42

We crunch through them, but I think we may have to adopt Scarby9’s shushling shushulled

Haywirecity · 27/08/2021 07:44

Kicking / kicked.

SquirrelFan · 27/08/2021 08:01

Shuffling. Scuffling. Scrunching. Crunching.

HighlandCowbag · 27/08/2021 08:05

Scruffled. We scruffle through leaves, until someone scruffles into dog shit. Then we scrape, and chunter about irresponsible dog owners being cunts.

TheBullfinch · 27/08/2021 08:07

Kicking/kicked.

Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way ...
