What word do you use for this autumn based activity

You are in a park in autumn and there are piles of leaves on the ground.

What word, if any, would you use to describe moving through those leaves?

e.g. They were / They through the leaves.

Crunched/ trudged depending on the weather 😂.

Kicking through the leaves was my initial thought, but now I'm questioning myself

Like a pp, I think ‘rustled’ is the best word to use with leaves, closely followed by ‘swished’!

Dry leaves: run, kick, jump, bound, pelt, mosey, amble
Wet leaves: tramp, trudge, slither, slip, stride, stumble.

I'd say, they investigated or explored the leaves.

The word would depend on how they are are moving. It could be any of the ones above. Is your theory that everyone would say something different? If so you've been proved correct
