SAHMs what will you do the first week your kids are back at school?!

A little over 2 weeks left of what's been a pretty hardcore summer school holidays. We haven't been abroad and we've endured a really crappy UK summer.

The first day mine go back, after the school run, I'm going to come home, change back in to my pyjamas and have a nap.

The rest of the first week will follow a similar pattern but I may enjoy a cup of tea and read the newspaper or a book in peace and quiet. I don't want to talk to anyone, or listen to anything, I just want to enjoy the quiet.

Mine are still preschoolers so only at preschool till lunchtime but every minute counts!

Indulge me with what you'll be doing when the kids are back at school...!

I'm going to buy a tub of Ben and jerrys and sit and watch jumanji. Then sit in silence for the rest of the day.

Long wait though as my smallest is starting reception and has the most drawn out phased in start.

Let's see how long it takes for this to turn into the typical MN thread that mention SAHMs.
I will keep my bingo card to hand Wink

Comedycook · 21/08/2021 20:53

I'm excited about the return to school. I'm going to clean the house in peace, shampoo my carpets and paint some rooms. Listen to the radio loud, watch what I want on tv and not be asked for food every five minutes

I was thinking about this earlier, but couldn't decide.

I shall wait and see what other users are planning Grin

rubbletrouble · 21/08/2021 20:54

I will be hitting the gym, nice days out, meeting with friends and keeping my eye out for any jobs I like the look of.

toolazytothinkofausername · 21/08/2021 20:54

I meant MNers not users Blush

HoppingHamster · 21/08/2021 20:55

I’m a working mum, have been working from home with kids here and no childcare all summer. I’m going to come home, change into pyjamas and go for a nap too Grin. Already booked in the calendar.

generalh · 21/08/2021 20:56

I am a teacher and hope to retire in 2 years. I am loving your suggestions.

Oh yes, I forgot about the gym! Haven't been all summer Blush I'll need to ease my way back in to the gym I think. Definitely not for the first week but I am a regular gym goer (during term time when I have the time!).

I’ve just finished my degree and my Masters starts in January, so I’m going to enjoy the fuck out of these next few months, particularly after finishing my Microbiology degree during a fucking Pandemic whilst homeschooling/making sure my 3DC don’t turn our home into a Thunderdome.

I plan to have lots of naps.

Knit each DC a blanket for Christmas.

Fire up the PS4 and indulge the teenage girl that still lives inside me by playing the original Resident Evil game.

Fill up my Thermos and go for long cold walks IN PEACE.

Thebookswereherfriends · 21/08/2021 21:02

Ive started doing an OU degree and I’m running behind with the last assignment of the year due to the hols, so I’ll be cramming my reading to get it done in time to do the vital last assignment!
I’d like to be sitting on the sofa binge watching queer eye! It makes me feel so happy.

YoComoManzanas · 21/08/2021 21:03

Full days mtb ride day 1. Cut hedges day 2. 10k run and food shop day 3. Clear out in house and possible tip run day 4. Bike ride/ run day 5.

Other tasks are clean oven, sort through outgrown clothes, join a fitness class of some sort, perhaps learn to swim properly, join an art class, take husband out on a coffee date. There may be some relax days too.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 21/08/2021 21:05

I’ve timed return to nursery with the start of my mat leave and I will be climbing into bed with a good book and willing DC2 and 3 to stay put an extra few weeks.

whereiscaroline · 21/08/2021 21:05

My DS is 14 but you're all making me wish I was a SAHM 😂 not jealous at all...

LynseyLoses · 21/08/2021 21:07

I've turned over a new leaf this summer and have been getting quite into fitness. DH is still working from home mostly, so has no commute and therefore some cover, so I can go to the gym. So, I'll be doing that and also have agreed to volunteer one day a week at a local charity.

I'm also planning to sort the house out and doing more reading.

SpaceBethSmith · 21/08/2021 21:08

Ah yes, I need to get my arse to the gym but I’m delaying that because the Uni one is £50 for the whole YEAR Shock

Twilightstarbright · 21/08/2021 21:09

Ooh my people! DS goes to reception in September. We just moved house so I’m looking forward to unpacking properly, sitting in silence and getting back to my knitting. I could also do with DH going back to the office a few days a week too.

Oh gawd, yes it would be lovely if my DH went back to the office! He's WFH indefinitely now. At least he shuts himself in the study and largely leaves me alone Grin

Hit the charity shops in peace, get my hair done, crafting, ebaying, sand down my kitchen table and meet some friends for lunch.

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 21/08/2021 21:21

I am a sahm for 2 days a week and can't bloody wait to take my dog for reeeeeeally long walks without smalls moaning at me and not having to fish out snack after snack after snack for them. I'm going to do some french homework and watch crap telly.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 21/08/2021 21:22

Only my eldest goes to school but I'll be enjoying getting jobs done with out him constantly wanting to help me. Its lovely but he also has learning difficulties so everything has to be repeated multiple times and you have to watch him like a hawk or he'll do something dangerous/daft.
My youngest will be having 1:1 daddy time while I sort stuff out.
I'm also looking forward to nap time and having peace for 2 hours as my nerves are frazzled by the constant noise

Mammyofasuperbaby · 21/08/2021 21:24

Babies nap time not mine

Ipanemama · 21/08/2021 21:26

I work very part time now so on my time off I want to get back into swimming, do a print and frame family photo project, increase my language study, paint some bedrooms, draw up an overhaul of the garden, yoga, and after this rainy august, plan next years holiday abroad!

RefuseTheLies · 21/08/2021 21:29

Schools are back in Scotland already. I spent two days sitting on the couch in total silence. Well - not total silence because I have a newborn, but she is a sleeper so it was as good as.

Theunamedcat · 21/08/2021 21:33

Clean without being followed scrub without stopping for drinks questions and without having to stop because my youngest sen won't stop limpeting it onto me and its dangerous to steam clean around a clinging 8 year old

I'm also going swimming alone back and forth in the pool alone....except for all the other adults 🤣
