Help, I've got a tapeworm and it's messing with my head

I've had stomach ache for a few weeks. Phoned GP, submitted stool sample. Results not back yet. Gripey pain, back pain, feel tired. GP said probably gastritis or h.pylori infection.

This morning I passed a worm 🪱 about 5cm long 😱😱😱 it was dead. Looked a bit like tagliatelle but thinner.

I'm so disgusted, I wash my hands really regularly. Horrified, vaguely amused, stomach feels like it's being eaten from the inside out and now I know why! Dear Lord.

I will phone GP again on Monday to request prescription for tablets to kill it. Until then I KNOW IT IS THERE and it's so disturbing 🤯

@Klee30

Try ovex. Can buy it easily in pharmacies! Boots do their own equivalent too. Not had tapeworm buy my children did get pinworms twice.
Ovex is for threadworms.

Tape worms are different.

PlanDeRaccordement · 21/08/2021 20:56

My DD once thought a bean sprout in her stool was a worm. They’re about 5cm long.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 21/08/2021 20:58

@Mincepiesallyearround Ive heard of a similar one, about guinea worms.
There's an amazing book called 'where there is no doctor' - it teaches you to treat everything from hernias to cholera to stds with home remedies. (It was written by a man, the cure for period pain is housework according to the recommendation).
In this book, I learnt that in some countries you can catch a guinea worm by weeing in certain river or lake water. It is attracted to wee and IIRC it passes up your urethra and grows in your leg until it pops up as a boil a few weeks later. You need to tie its head to a pencil or similar stick then gradually (over a period of days or weeks) turn the pencil to wrap the worm around it and ease it out without snapping it. During treatment you need to tie the pencil and live worm to your leg.
Thank goodness for western medicine.

Hugoslavia · 21/08/2021 23:21

Am laughing so much at the suggestion of housework to cure period pains. That crap would need more than a pencil to help remove the broom stick embedded up.his arse if he had ever suggested that to me. In fact, he'd have to add a new section to his book.

...yes, the way to lure tapeworms out is to starve them for several days and then sit on a large Kristy Kreme ring donut attached to a car bumper with a length of rope, wait until it sticks his head out to take a bite and then get someone to hit the accelerator!

Hugoslavia · 21/08/2021 23:26

Chap, not crap. Naughty auto-correct!

It still made sense, chap or crap. Grin

The mention of Pripsen in this thread (barf) should carry a trigger warning. I'd rather have threadworms for life that drink that shit ever again.

Sorry about your worm OP.

DrDreReturns · 22/08/2021 07:55

Yea pripsen was grim. I'm surprised I drank it in hindsight. Has it been banned now - why can't you get it anymore?

Bettyboop3 · 22/08/2021 08:02

That raspberry medicine made me sick 🤮 think it was called pripsen

CornishGem1975 · 22/08/2021 08:13

Jesus why did everyone have worms so much 🤣 I remember drinking that stuff too. My kids have got to their teenage years without so much as a single threadworm (as far as I know).

supadupapupascupa · 22/08/2021 09:24

Pripsen we called it "sickly medicine" awful stuff. Lots of tears over that at home

Bettyboop3 · 22/08/2021 09:38

I don't think people did have worms so much. I think it was given as a precautionary measure.

EBearhug · 22/08/2021 10:34

I don't think we had them so much. It's just that Pripsen was a very traumatic experience.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 22/08/2021 10:38

@crystalize

Search for Diatomaceous earth food grade. And always have this in your cupboard! Amazing stuff for ridding all parasites in a natural safe way. For people and animals too.
This for definite, make sure it's food grade

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 22/08/2021 11:09

I used to quite like pripsenBlush

TheQueef · 22/08/2021 11:14

My Mum used to bait the fridge with big brand ski yoghurt and use guerrilla warfare tactics to corner us and force the Prip.
Our cousins lived with us so eight non receptive feral kids every couple of months.
I can't remember ever having worms but I vividly remember NinjaMum appearing behind me with the pink stuff.

You wouldn't get away with it these days.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 22/08/2021 11:30

Don't know if anyone else has said this but in the house I grew up in, one would occasionally arrive in the loo find the odd earthworm in the pan who had come up through the wastepipe. Are you sure it wasn't this (hope it was).
