Help, I've got a tapeworm and it's messing with my head

I've had stomach ache for a few weeks. Phoned GP, submitted stool sample. Results not back yet. Gripey pain, back pain, feel tired. GP said probably gastritis or h.pylori infection.

This morning I passed a worm 🪱 about 5cm long 😱😱😱 it was dead. Looked a bit like tagliatelle but thinner.

I'm so disgusted, I wash my hands really regularly. Horrified, vaguely amused, stomach feels like it's being eaten from the inside out and now I know why! Dear Lord.

I will phone GP again on Monday to request prescription for tablets to kill it. Until then I KNOW IT IS THERE and it's so disturbing 🤯

ringworm which is the least icky of all the worms

That's because it's a fungal infection rather than worms, despite its name.

EBearhug · 21/08/2021 18:43

What is this 'being wormed regularly as a child' thing?

Farm child, in my case.

Ringworm is a fungal infection, nothing to do with actual worms.

Oh god, the memory of that FOUL, pink worming medicine. 🤮 My mother wormed us on a regular basis, I note she never took it herself though.

Nearly 60. Regular as clockwork, every few weeks. Friends too. Poor neighbourhood in SE24, didn’t have bathrooms, lots of pets - brother’s best friend’ family had mice living in his sofa, he loved them and no I’m not making it up - bought meat from outdoor stalls at Brixton market. Even the posh, under cover butcher’s shop had flies all over the mince.

It was just a normal part of life then 🤷‍♀️

Thread worms - It was still common in the 70s and dd got it in the 00s

Tippytappytoes · 21/08/2021 19:13

When I had my first big and final ulcerative colitis attack (and I didn’t know it at first) I thought I had tape worms. Alas it was just the lining of my colon. Wait for your stool sample results before doing anything.

BigFatLiar · 21/08/2021 19:16

Have a look...worms

EastWestWhosBest · 21/08/2021 19:17

I too remember being wormed with that horrible drink. Urgh.

msssm · 21/08/2021 19:19

@Hoppinggreen

This happened to me but I saved it and took it to my GP. He called in a colleague for a second opinion and they agreed it was a bean sprout. I was surprised because I hadn’t eaten one for a while but apparently they can hang around.
This made me laugh so hard 🤣🤣🤣

A cat we had once threw up a tapeworm once. (It had been starved all day as I had been out and no-one else had thought to feed him as I usually did it).
The vet told me starving makes the worm loose its grip.
It was an average sized cat but the worm was about 18 inches long and I remember watching it writhe in a horrified fascination!
If it is a tapeworm OP you will have passed only part of it as they grow, size wise. according to the size of their host.
Hope you are okay!

Backtomyoldname · 21/08/2021 19:31

Are you a primary school teacher by any chance.

My daughter is - she had worms. Not uncommon.

Either nits or worms - she’s had both!

happydays2345 · 21/08/2021 19:31

Literally horrified for you

Oooh, like an anal version of a sootikin.
Sparklingbrook · 21/08/2021 19:45

I thought i had worms once but it was dental floss that DS1 had chucked in the loo (naughty) and not flushed.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 21/08/2021 19:47

Hope you’re okay op - hopefully it won’t be worms.

In some circles people get them on purpose to keep their weight down Confused

Imnewhere1991 · 21/08/2021 19:49

@MaverickDanger did it do him any harm?? I genuinely think I have had once since I was 11. Passed a moving segment that looks EXACTLY like a tapeworm..but the Dr gave medication for the threadworm and anyone I've ever mentioned it to looks at me like I'm bat sh*t crazy

Lotusmonster · 21/08/2021 19:57

Read this….some roundworms actually boost fertility 😁

Op are you sure it was a tapeworm rather than a mucus string? Dd had a stomach bug recently and a few days later, I was wiping her, and a big long string of ghastliness came out and I assumed it was a worm 😱 But when I called the GP he said it was more than likely mucus that was caused by the tummy bug. Said to keep an eye, but we haven't had any issues since.

Search for Diatomaceous earth food grade. And always have this in your cupboard! Amazing stuff for ridding all parasites in a natural safe way. For people and animals too.

The best part of the article is - “ The main negative effect is that after about 10 weeks, segments of the tape worm can start crawling out of your bottom,” he said. “They have male and female parts and carry eggs. They can literally crawl out. I have spoken to someone who said they started crawling out of his trouser leg while he was driving down the motorway.”

OMFG. Am itching just reading that.
Klee30 · 21/08/2021 20:20

Try ovex. Can buy it easily in pharmacies! Boots do their own equivalent too. Not had tapeworm buy my children did get pinworms twice.

AuntMargo · 21/08/2021 20:49
