So, I'm 36, I've been working 20 years and my new employer wants to see my GCSE certificates. So yes kids, they are important Grin

Admin/receptionist job.

Lost them years ago during a house move and its going to cost me several forms of I.D and £45.00 to get them from AQA.

Who else still has theirs 15+ years later?

@JamieNotJames

I have and I'm 42. Still in my lovely maroon Record of Achievement binder. Smile

I've never been asked to provide them for job applications however!!

Yep, 44 and the same.

Don't try to take them out of the folder, however, as they leave the ink on the inside of the plastic wallets.

Glwysen · 20/08/2021 15:07

I’m 45, I was asked for my degree certificate for my first job and haven’t been asked for anything since.

I did think about applying for a job in a school - I didn’t after being told I would have to show my gcse certificates. I have no idea where they are or what exam board they were with!!

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 20/08/2021 15:08

I moved schools for y11 and all the other kids had already been given their RoA folders, so I never got one :(

I'm 55 and still have my O Level, CSE, and A Level certificates. I've also got my Cycling Proficiency Test certicate from when I was 9, dated 1975 😀

MadMadMadamMim · 20/08/2021 15:12

I've got my O levels - which shows how old I am. I have all my qualifications in a folder.

And yes, I have needed to show them for every job I've ever been for, but I work in academia and would expect this.

MissCruellaDeVil · 20/08/2021 15:12

Mine are only 8 years old (24 now) but yes I still have them, they've kept safe in the filing cabinet with my other professional qualification. I have never been asked to show them, even in my professional job now, they didn't even ask to see my degree! I have been asked for a copy of my degree verticals at interviews before, but never GCSE. I bet most people couldn't place them!

emmathedilemma · 20/08/2021 15:14

mid 40's, they'll be in my National Record of Achievement folder along with my 25m swimming badge where ever that may be!

godmum56 · 20/08/2021 15:18

I am 67 and have still got mine but only been asked for them once and that was when i did my college application and they wanted to confirm grades. My college quals are my professional qualifiucation so I had to show it to state register (HPC) then after that they check your registration.

DeeplyCheesedOffWithLife · 20/08/2021 15:19

When I went to uni, I not only needed my certificates, but also they wanted exact start and finish dates for every job I'd ever had. Cue screams of horror and frantic rummaging through documents! I ended up deciding to make some of them up, on the grounds that if anyone could prove they were wrong, they would also have to know the correct dates - at which point I would say, "You're right, now I think about it, it WAS the 29th of September..." and change it. Didn't happen of course!

QueenofLouisiana · 20/08/2021 15:19

I have mine and my maroon record of achievement! Teachers are almost always asked to prove that they have at least GCSEs in maths and English, so I’ve had to produce mine whenever I apply for a job.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 20/08/2021 15:21

No. My mum lost them, I had to apply for copies too when I applied for university as a mature student.

OnGoldenPond · 20/08/2021 15:27

Yep got mine 40 years on. GCEs not GCSEs!

Also still got my cycling proficiency certificate Grin

LadyDanburysCane · 20/08/2021 15:37

I have mine but it was 1985 so mine are O’Level certificates. They are in in folder along with my NI card, passport, pension docs etc. Haven’t been asked for them since 1990 when my then employer wanted to see them. My last two employers just took my word for it (schools).

icedcoffees · 20/08/2021 15:41

Yes. I'm 32 and I have a box full with all my important certificates - GCSE's, A-levels, Degree, Driving Test, Marriage etc.

They're all kept in the same box file that I've had since I was in year 9 Grin

Disrespected · 20/08/2021 15:41

Yes still in the record of achievement in the loft.

Fifthtimelucky · 20/08/2021 15:47

I took my O levels in 1977 and still have my certificates!

bruffin · 20/08/2021 15:50

DH needed them from 1978 for his current job as security clearance

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/08/2021 15:58

well, well, well...

Just rand my school for a statement of the results, they have it on file 18 years later wow!

the results were not too good, I have C-Ds but I aint getting this job, I got an F in Maths? wtf?

I managed to get an A level equivalent IT course in college though back in 2004

Im 57, and I have everything from Scottish O' Grades on. In my "employment" folder. Has my professional qualifications, special award certificates, CV copies for each job, first and last payslips for each too. My how things have changed over the years...

BluebellsGreenbells · 20/08/2021 16:03

75% of jobs expect C or above in maths and English and they do check.

Back to college for an awful lot of people.

ThanksItHasPockets · 20/08/2021 16:04

Yes, I have mine, and have had to produce my certificates for GCSE Maths and English for every new teaching job.

TheGenealogist · 20/08/2021 16:07

Yes I still have mine, well not GCSE but Scottish exams. Nobody has ever asked to see them and I'm almost 50. The only time I've ever been asked to verify an academic qualification was when applying for a Masters, obviously they wanted to make sure I had an undergrad degree.

I'm self-employed and do not intend going back to employment, so chances are i'll never be asked for them.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 20/08/2021 16:08

I do! I took some GCSEs in year 9 and reset them in year 10/11 and I still have those certificates, even though the grades have been superseded.

I also have a certificate of attendance from when I was 9! That one hasn’t been purposefully kept but it somehow manages to always avoid the rubbish and keeps popping up. It’s randomly been on the dining table for the last few weeks for no reason at all Confused

PolytheneRam · 20/08/2021 16:09

I have mine. Same age as you. Needed them when I got my current job two years ago.

SoupDragon · 20/08/2021 16:10

I have no idea where mine are and I wouldn't even be able to say which exams were with which exam board. I have a whole host of
Pitman/RSA accounting qualifications that I can't even remember.
