I'm off to town today to check a dormant account.

I've had a letter from Santander to say I have q dormant Instant Saver account so I am heading into town to find out how much is in there.

Anyone want to help guess?

For background, I opened the account over 15 years ago and at that time was earning about £28k.

I drove a new car and saved up enough to travel the world, but what is left in this forgotten account.

Did I stash a cheeky grand. Or £100 to open it. Or is it empty or maybe containing £4.36.

I'm quite excited.

What do you all think?

I’ve got £44 in a dormant account that I can’t (be arsed) to get to.

It needs DH and me to call in to a branch with ID together and agree to release it. And is going to be a massive faff, because there are no, branches within a 20 mile radius any more.

I could do with the money, tbh, but I’m not in desperate need of it. I think of it as a gift to future me from past me, so I’ve decided I’m going to leave it there until I’m in a situation where I actually need it. Like someone breaking their school shoes in January or something. Then it will be worth the faff.

You are lucky, the Halifax took £50 from me when I opened an account at about twenty -five, then said it had gone into a 'location' due to 'dormancy'. No-one seemed to know where that location was. It really isn't a good idea to let bank accounts sit idle, I have also had problems with ISAs being locked and having to fill in a million forms and produce multiple bits of ID to re-activate.

This has been an eye opener for how many people don't remember from school that you never use a £ and a p in the same sum.

This is the Victorian safe all over again, isn't it.

But also I'll guess £119.12.

Maybe it was a sting and the OP is in a police station pleading no knowledge of the millions in the account that resulted from the diamond heist.

And making this post was a huge cover up! I think you could be right! That's the only explanation for why we've been waiting for so long to get the answer😂
