I'm off to town today to check a dormant account.

I've had a letter from Santander to say I have q dormant Instant Saver account so I am heading into town to find out how much is in there.

Anyone want to help guess?

For background, I opened the account over 15 years ago and at that time was earning about £28k.

I drove a new car and saved up enough to travel the world, but what is left in this forgotten account.

Did I stash a cheeky grand. Or £100 to open it. Or is it empty or maybe containing £4.36.

I'm quite excited.

What do you all think?

I left a £ with the Halifax to keep the account open.

My dormant account had £0.21 in it. I did once find 300 euros in an old handbag though from a trip over ten years earlier. Fortunately the pound had slumped against the euro, so my 'stuff it in a bag and forget about it' technique actually paid off for once. Is there a prize for the closet amount? I'm going for £124

This is exciting. I feel like you would've remembered if there was a lot in there (I definitely wouldn't forget 😅) so I'll guess around the £100 mark maybe £100.84p

I think you were overdrawn and now owe them all that interest accumulated on a 17 pound overdraft… you owe them 2,780
Sad

The reason you had to come in in person is so that you can not run and hide

You’ll be escorted in by security Wink

Actually I reckon if you went travelling you would have drained the account first to have then maximum travel budget. So maybe only £1 or so.

When I was at primary school, they did a scheme with Yorkshire Building Society (or was it bank then?) and in year 6 we all opened accounts and every week they came and took our money and we filled in the little books and they stamped it. No idea if that account still exists anywhere, with any money in it. I tried to hunt it down a few years back but no way of knowing! I have no paperwork and I suspect it may not be real, but they definitely took our money each week int he school library!

I say this because I unexpectedly found a dormant account - well, they emailed me from time to time telling me about interest rates - and found it had a zero balance!
