I've had a letter from Santander to say I have q dormant Instant Saver account so I am heading into town to find out how much is in there.

Anyone want to help guess?

For background, I opened the account over 15 years ago and at that time was earning about £28k.

I drove a new car and saved up enough to travel the world, but what is left in this forgotten account.

Did I stash a cheeky grand. Or £100 to open it. Or is it empty or maybe containing £4.36.

I'm quite excited.

What do you all think?

£19.81. That might get you the airport for your Caribbean cruise.....

Sproutpie · 20/08/2021 12:24

£14.57 fingers crossed for much more for you 🤞

Frazzled2207 · 20/08/2021 12:25

Hope it's good news but i have several accounts with either 0p or just a few pence which I've never been bothered to properly close. My bad I know. I can't imagine having an account with a significant amount of money in it that i just forgot about but hopefully you'll have a nice surprise!

do update

Its an investment account and you put £1,000 away in a high risk private equity fund, with a solid holding of early Tesla stock, forgot about it and its now worth around £1.3m. There is also a dormant cash account with £40.02 in it.

NutellaEllaElla · 20/08/2021 12:33

I'm going with whatever was the minimum you had to open it.

Amdone123 · 20/08/2021 12:34

Fingers crossed for you ! I'm very excited.

torquewench · 20/08/2021 12:34

@poorbuthappy

£2.94. This number because this is how much I am in credit on 1 of my credit cards. They keep sending me cheques for the amount and as it will cost me that to drive to the bank to pay the bloody thing in the money is still on the card.
My banking app lets me pay cheques in by photographing them.
SqueakyPeaks · 20/08/2021 12:34

I had this - wanted to close an account but it had 1p in it. I tried everything to get rid of this 1p to close the account - on their chat line, automated service etc. Said I didn't care what they they with the penny, I didn't want it. Because of the type of account it was you couldn't just transfer it out. At one point they offered to post a cheque!!!!

Anyway I made a complaint about how much of a complete faff it was and they eventually donated the penny to charity, closed the account....and gave me a time and trouble payment of eighty quid!!!
