Apologies for my ignorance, but why can't the papers be served at Balmoral?

Roussette · 24/08/2021 11:29

Because they have to be served in person. If someone (i.e. PA) doesn't want to accept them he can just not. It's a massive estate with 167 rooms so not like knocking at a two bedroomed terraced house!

nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 11:33

This is why the Q allowing Andrew into Balmoral isn't just having the normal holiday with the family. She is actively protecting him once she allowed him onto the grounds - he went there as soon as the legal case was launched.

So basically we all got lucky, the stupidity and arrogance of PA forced the issue into the open.

And Beatrice was gullible and daft enough to encourage him to do it (the Maitlis interview).

I wonder what aims and objectives they had? Whether he'd even been rehearsed on any of the questions? Or was the strategy simply, 'sound terribly grave, and say you don't recall, don't recall, don't recall - that'll do.'

I keep harking back to Ben Swain in my mind, who wouldn't listen to advice for his Paxo interview ... Lots of blinking there too. I mean Andrew, mate, it's been on In The Thick of It what happens when you fly solo with a Newnight interviewer Grin

^^ I know it's not really funny. But Ben Swain was.

Roussette · 24/08/2021 11:46

I too wonder what, in the name of all that is holy, did B & PA imagine would happen?
This is a seasoned reputable journalist, it wasn't just a fluff piece, it was a serious interview talking on a very serious subject.
I presume it wasn't rehearsed. I presume he had the majority of questions in advance, but then it meandered all over the shop and we ended up in Pizza Express!

I did want to think that halfway through he was thinking 'oh shit, this isn't going well'... but no. He apparently was very pleased how it went and told his mother that.

Prince Andrew's aides were "pleased" with his 'Newsnight' interview, until they saw the public's reaction, Emily Maitlis has claimed.

Maitlis said: "We know that the palace was happy with the interview. We had plenty of engagement with them after it went out. I think their shock was not at the interview, but the reaction it caused in the days and weeks afterwards."

Completely unbelievable. The aides must be as deluded as him

nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 11:46

@Roussette

It is an interesting one. If you are a Royalist (and this is directed at no one posting here) and are angry about PA but also want nothing to change re the monarchy - how do you square the circle?

Is Prince Andrew just one of those things that happens, like bad weather? Nothing to be done, ignore it and eventually it will pass. Casual racism and victim blaming - oh well this is the price of all the nice bits of monarchy.

If I was a Royalist journalist I would seize this opportunity to recommend tweaks to ensure the survival of the monarchy. Of course the powers that be can ignore them. But I just find the indifference from the media really shocking and upsetting.

nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 11:49

@SpindleWhorl
@Roussette

Arrogance and stupidity from PA and his advisors.
And this man was paid to be a trade envoy on behalf of us all.

I, too, am not aiming this at anyone in particular but I do think that. A bad egg is Andrew, never mind, won't hear from him again, and goody, we have that Jubliee to look forward to next year! Must get going with the street party preparations!

Blossomtoes · 24/08/2021 12:03

That isn’t really true. The Balmoral family holiday has been a tradition for decades.

And we can’t stop this kind of thing happening again. I’m not being rude @nottodaybatman, but it’s really naive to think that’s possible.

OP posts:
nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 12:20

I know you cannot stop bad things happening blossom but to not bother at all to even consider improvements because nothing is guaranteed is odd and not the approach we take to other things.

Cannot stop people killing each other so why criminalise it?!

As for balmoral yes they always go and this where we getting into normal individuals and role as monarch as separate things embodied in one person.
A family going to their Scottish holiday home for their annual trip is nothing interesting even if one person is being accused of a serious crime.

But as a monarch letting him in provides protection. And if duty is the most important thing, she prioritised her son and ignored the duty to protect the crown.

nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 12:29

This is what I mean.

If the monarch and royal palaces didn't provide protection for the serving of papers and arrest all would be fine. So should that random rule be struck off?

It wouldn't solve PA right this very second. But it means the RF get to enjoy their holidays and a mother would noy be forced to turn her child away because she is monarch.

This is what I mean about the media having a grown up conversation. It doesn't mean anything will change but it is an acknowledgement that the current situation is a bit shit and embarrassing - lets think of some ways to make it better.

BeaucoupFish · 24/08/2021 18:42

There is an interesting documentary on Sky/Now called ‘Ghislane Maxwell Epstein’s Shadow’
I’m halfway through part 1 it’s covering her childhood with her Father and delves into why she was conditioned from a young age to behave around rich/powerful/controlling men

Has anyone watched it in full yet ?

www.imdb.com/title/tt14723242/

Roussette · 24/08/2021 18:56

Oooh thanks for that Beaucoup I'll looks into it.

BeaucoupFish · 24/08/2021 21:59

@Roussette
I owe you !

I didn’t know she had so many siblings …documentary is really interesting

Roussette · 24/08/2021 22:33

Yes Beaucoup it's a large family and I clocked them when Robert Maxwell was around and he stole all those elderly workers' pensions, he was a horrible bully.

The brothers Kevin and Ian have a website set up for her

BeaucoupFish · 24/08/2021 22:39

Thanks for everything, I’m doing a lot of research thanks to you and the other ‘on point’ posters

Back to the doc now - I am fascinated

Roussette · 27/08/2021 16:15

This is worth a watch.

The current situation on Maxwell and PA.

Main points are... (below is me just summarising as it's quite long)

Maxwell has tried for the 5th time to be let out on bail. This bid failed like all the rest and just 'annoys the judge'.

PA has to answer the case or he will be subject to a default judgement.
'He is not in a good position'

In the London Maxwell house, with the PA/VG photo... everyone acknowledges it is legitimate and no one has shown the photo to be fake.

The technical director of Epstein's operation is coming forward to give evidence against Maxwell, and therefore PA.

PA will never be able to go to the US again, because it is quite likely he will be arrested if he does.
The best thing he can do is to settle the civil case. It's doubtful he can get out of this mess unless he pays out. There is no other way and it will be looked at as an admission of guilt. That can't be used against him in a criminal case but he wont be extradited.

'The man is a consumate deceiver'

The trial is in November unless she does a plea bargain. If she doesn't take a plea bargain, she will die in prison. She may change her mind.

But a trial is a best case for the survivors and for the sake of other names coming out.

Interesting towards the end as to where Epstein got all his money from. One of the people in this video says Maxwell was 'the controller' not Epstein.

Ghislaine is the connection that brought in the people that they blackmailed. There were 200 cameras in each property. There are tape recordings of powerful people held.

Prophesy from one of them is a plea deal with Maxwell getting 15 years. She has nowhere else to go.

Disclaimer... this is two people discussing the situation. This could well be 100% fact, who knows, it's just two people with more knowledge than me.

BeaucoupFish · 27/08/2021 16:43

Thank you for update 🙂

BeaucoupFish · 27/08/2021 16:44

Roussette · 27/08/2021 16:51

Rousette is the suggestion from the discussion you have described that this was a deliberate blackmail operation rather than a perverted man trafficking girls for his own use and using them to make and keep useful contacts.

If that is the case it could help to explain why none of their famous contacts have turned on them in public.

Roussette · 27/08/2021 19:42

meercat I have absolutely no idea.

It's just something put out there. Obviously there were trafficked girls because otherwise there wouldn't have been convictions with Epstein first time round.

There is no doubt that he used the girls for his own purposes. And others.

meercat this was just a discussion between two people who are far more on the ball, than me.

SpindleWhorl · 28/08/2021 07:52

Well, the question, 'Where did Epstein get his money from?' never got answered really, as far as I know.

I think 'kompromat' is quite a plausible variable at play here.

Roussette · 29/08/2021 08:15

In the news today...

PRINCE Andrew is hiding in his royal mansion to avoid officials trying to serve a rape lawsuit on him, it is claimed.

Security guards stopped “multiple attempts” by lawyers last week to hand the document to The Duke of York at Royal Lodge

Prince Andrew, not seen in public for 19 days, is said to be refusing to leave his home, which is set in 98 private acres in Windsor Great Park, Berks.

If he refuses to accept the civil summons, issued by a New York court clerk three weeks ago, the Duke risks facing a “judgment by default” next month.

An insider said “more attempts will be made” to hand the papers to Andrew but a source said: “There’s no way he will risk poking his head outside right now. He will stay out of view.”

A spokesman for the Duke did not wish to comment.
