There are other very high profile names associated with Epstein.
I hope they too have a day of reckoning.

And probably a couple of other regular posters on here, thank you very much for all of your posts, all really interesting, I keep on the thread to read your posts, all very civilised as well, thanks
I do have a question, can somebody tell me what ‘rota’ means please ?

Roussette · 23/08/2021 18:48

Hi Beaucoup

As far as I;m concerned... it means the news 'rota'. Like a pool system for outlets that report on the Royals so they rotate and are not all saying the same thing at the same time.
Hope I've got that right!

Thank you
Like they have it all planned out then ?
So sky says one thing, the guardian another etc. In an attempt to make it look unbiased ?

Blossomtoes · 23/08/2021 18:51

Ah, that’s so nice @BeaucoupFish. Yes, it is civilised, it’s got tetchy a couple of times - usually down to me!

Yes the rota was created as a way to manage the press for the courtiers and RF. They get access to special events etc for photos and interviews. They have a christmas party at the palace.

I understand that originally it was a way of getting the positive PR stuff out there. Rota reporters are at the major newspapers, BBC and ITV. It is an actually a very powerful bit of comms for the RF.
Without access to the palaces etc the rota have no value to their employers so they tend to tow the line.

BeaucoupFish · 23/08/2021 18:55

You are all so well informed and eloquent - it’s nice to read threads that aren’t people bitching back and forth and making sensible posts
Thanks

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 19:04

I find it a fascinating bit of pop culture.

I think the direction the rota has gone down recently is harmful personally. Particularly since social media and endless tv show slots really magnifies whatever angle they are spinning.

One of the most sneaky things the rota does is when people criticise what they are doing they claim it as an attack on the monarchy or the family itself. I wish we could separate out:

  • the rota
  • the imperfect humans in the family
  • the monarchy as a constitutional piece of our government
  • the fairy tale.
Roussette · 23/08/2021 19:07

Beaucoup

merci beaucoup for the kind words!

It is fascinating who the PR and press rota work. I bet we barely know anything, and we'd be shocked

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 19:07

I think prince Andrew is helping people to separate out the different pieces. We need to be able to critique the different elements

BeaucoupFish · 23/08/2021 19:12

Imagine being invited to a party at the palace though ?
Can’t think of anything worse couldn’t let your hair down and ask for shots could you ?

I understand that.

I just find it odd that the Rota seems to conveniently report unfounded allegations about legal action against H&M for nothing anyone is able to describe
It's not exactly news is it?

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 19:21

This is where the rota are dangerous - they have whipped up racism and victim blaming. I do not believe there was an edict directly them to do this from the palace.

The problem is ribbon cutting is boring - they need drama, they need a villain and a victor. The whole circus is out of control because the reality of the fairy tale is deathly dull.

Roussette · 23/08/2021 21:31

Isn't it funny.... I was searching for something earlier on, and came across this in a Guardian article dated March 2011, a year after PA supposedly walked round Central Park NY and broke up with Epstein.

"The Queen is reported to have held private talks with Andrew about the mounting scandal over his trade dealings with despots for the government and his personal links to the US financier Jeffrey Epstein, who has been convicted of sex offences with young girls.

The prince's spokesman refused to comment on the meeting, said to have taken place at the Queen's private apartments at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, after more than two weeks of daily reports criticising his conduct and judgment as the UK's international trade envoy"

His awful behaviour has been going on for a very long time.

One has to assume from that report a year later the friendship still carried on.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 21:39

It's a long con. To pretend that this was unknown and Andrew's grubby secret.

Roussette · 23/08/2021 21:42

Yes, Exactly That is the point I'm trying to make, thank you!

Someone said on one of these threads a day or so ago... the Queen may well not have known what he was up to and unaware.

Well... that proves she did and had done for decade(s)

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 21:52

Also while this thread is about Virginia and what was normal / acceptable in 2001.

Andrew and his PPO were around Epstein and his victims for more than a decade thereafter. It was not just 3 disputed meetings in 2001. It was a long running friendship until Epstein went to jail.

The RF and broader media knew

Andrew sought him out time and time again

Roussette · 23/08/2021 22:01

The RF and broader media knew

Yep. And the Queen knew as she was telling him off about it ten years later.

Whilst PA might say in that interview 'we were not that close'... he partied with him at Trump's MarALago, Epstein took him on a yacht round Thailand with topless lovelies, he stayed time and time again at NY mansion, Palm Beach and Virgin Islands, at least 4 times on his private jet.

Epstein went to Ascot with PA, Sandringham, Buckingham Palace and Balmoral and to Beatrice's birthday party.

'Not that close'.... yeah right...

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 22:12

The thing I find mind boggling about this all is the arrogance of the courtiers.

If you are running a long con that has the potential to blow up in your face because the net was closing on Epstein why not be smart and keep quiet. There was never a world in which Epstein was not going down. They knew this in 2011.

Letting PA go free range on newsnight
Setting Camilla tominey / rota on Virginia presumably to muddy the waters so PA could slink back into public life.

These choices make the arrogance so obvious. This crisis is entirely self induced. They could have quietly benched PA years ago and dealt with Virginia's lawyers out of the spot light.

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 22:17

Why are the rota telling us the queen is upset now? According to the timeline she has been upset for over a decade yet she still managed to shrug it off and let PA keep his dressing up box, tax payer funding and other perks.

The audacity of the lies and spin.

Roussette · 23/08/2021 22:22

It is beyond incredible that the courtiers are so stupid and misguided, they take the public for fools.

Well...the chickens have come to roost, they and the Q should've addressed his behaviour decades ago

BeaucoupFish · 23/08/2021 22:30

@nottodaybatman
‘Dress up’ spot on
He looks ridiculous

nottodaybatman · 23/08/2021 22:42

These people are so stupid.
They literally bet against the FBI wanting to take down a paedophile and trafficker of american children.

I am sure PA was arrogant and entitled but if this was the quality of intellect running strategy and comms in the RF, maybe he was right to feel confident and self righteous.

SpindleWhorl · 23/08/2021 23:42

Andrew sought him [Epstein] out time and time again

Epstein is known in the public domain for two things. Sex trafficking of young women and girls; and having money.

Or maybe he was a terrific cook?

nottodaybatman · 24/08/2021 08:06

This whole situation is putting sunlight on all of it.

The RF is
1 Rota

  1. Arm of government
  2. Individual family members as people
  3. Fairy tale for the general public

In the past to protect the fairytale we had to not look too closely at what the rota was up to, the Q was doing with her constitutional powers and ignore any questionable behaviour of the individuals.

Prince Andrew shows the cost of preserving the fairytale.
The rota is dangerous and it was coordinated with the RF to protect him.
The Q is using the constitutional privileges of the monarch by hiding him in balmoral so papers cannot be served
As an individual PA is sleazy and entitled - he was never qualified to be trade envoy and the tax payer funded friendship with Epstein is a disgrace.

Was this necessary to preserve a public fairytale?
