Same fake sheikh. Why SF wouldn't learn from Sophie's experience, god alone knows.

Funnily enough, there's no footage out there any more. But I remember having seen it, as she was glugging wine and smoking at the time.

nottodaybatman · 22/08/2021 13:29

From what I remember at the time both were laughing stocks but I don't recall the press suggesting titles being stripped etc.

The problem with the rota leading calls for titles and patronages being stripped etc is that it is treating the monarchy like reality tv. People now think that the Q should respond to public opinion. But this is a conundrum of their own creation. They created this monster because it was useful to set the dogs on meghan, which far exceeded anything that had gone before. Then the sheer arrogance of PA in the interview. Finally now the MoD is launching attacks from the pages of the Times against the PA and the Q.

SpindleWhorl · 22/08/2021 13:34

I've always thought that Andrew and Sarah are much, much more like sybaritic Great Uncle David and Wallis than H&M will ever be.

PA is an entitled sleaze but this PR disaster was in part exacerbated by the RF's own collusion with the press.

Perhaps we are doing PA a disservice by describing him as foolish or naive. He has his family over a barrel about something that they will publicly protect him from CSA allegations and the FBI.

OverByYer · 22/08/2021 13:39

The Jane Andrews story was huge at the time. I guess Fergie is treated so well as she knows where the bodies are. Keep your friends close….

SpindleWhorl · 22/08/2021 13:44

It's like a Dan Brown inspired movie.

A monarchy, a church, a government and a ring of spies - that would kill billionaires to protect a secret!

nottodaybatman · 22/08/2021 13:46

And all of this would be vaguely entertaining and make for a great season 6 or 7 of the Crown but for the fact that RF via the rota sponsored years of racism and victim blaming. And is actively stonewalling an investigation into international child sex trafficking.

It is not harmless and they do not care.

Roussette · 22/08/2021 14:02

Really worth a watch.... Whilst there are a couple of amusing add ons, it's just really the worst bits of that interview.

Every time I see any of it, it just becomes more shocking.

Blossomtoes · 22/08/2021 14:06

Once was enough @Roussette. I have absolutely no desire to see it again.

Probably sensible Blossom Grin but for me.. as this carries on unfolding, some of his answers to questions just seem to be more relevant or should that be ridiculous ... hard to explain...

OverByYer · 22/08/2021 14:16

It really was a complete car crash

It’s a masterpiece of editing though - I burst out laughing at 2.48 😂

I think PA maybe a ‘secret’ smoker as well and `I wonder if he Google’s himself I would love to think he does

The pizza express, and the I don’t sweat comments still make me laugh. Just so arrogant to think people will just accept what he’s saying without question.

feellikeanalien · 22/08/2021 15:38

Regardless of VG's accusations the fact that PA continued a friendship with a convicted sex offender speaks volumes to me. Also the interview with Emily Maitlis really showed what an entitled and arrogant man he is.

There was no remorse for his friendship with Epstein. That alone should lead to him to being removed from all military positions and never ever being a representative of the RF again.

I think HM has made a really big error of judgement here. The majority of the public have a poor opinion of Andrew, not just because of the Epstein case but because of his behaviour whilst trade ambassador( or whatever his title was) and the dubious company he kept.

The fact that the papers refer to her getting "tough" with Harry and Meghan show where the RF's priorities lie (and I am no fan of Harry and Meghan).

If PA really was innocent then surely the RF could have issued a a statement when the legal proceedings were issued. Even if it simply said that he denies all the allegations and no further comment would be made.

If this was an elected president whose family were behaving in such a way I imagine resignation might be something they would be considering.

I'm pretty neutral about the RF but I feel that they are doing themselves enormous damage over PA.

Roussette · 22/08/2021 15:55

@feellikeanalien

Great post especially first two paras.
If he never slept with VG (personally I think he did), his judgement in continuing a friendship with a convicted sex offender is just so awful. He spent four whole days in Epstein's NY mansion breaking up with him because in his words 'I am just too honourable'.

I mean come on.... he has the opportunity to stay at the Consul General's residence any time he was in NY, but he chose instead to spend 4 days in Epstein's company. Even his PPO's from Scotland Yard turned a blind eye and they slept in guest suites at the Mansion. I imagine they knew that advising PA otherwise would result in dismissal and they were on double the money they'd get as ordinary Met officers.

It's all murky and disgusting

This really says that he's used to everyone around him choosing to accept his word as gospel, enable him, or be put in a position of having to accept it.

Staff, family, ex-wife, officers under his fake ceremonial 'command', charity reps.

Maitlis really brilliantly played on this.

Blossomtoes · 22/08/2021 15:59

His PPOs are employed to guard his safety, not his morals. Their remit doesn’t include advising him on reputational issues, just accompanying him wherever he goes and ensuring he doesn’t get injured.

No. Given that the Epstein mansion was run like a 5 star brothel they are duty bound to report back. If they suspected that criminal activity was taking place they should have been reporting. No wonder the Met went quiet when all this came out. So no, it's not just about him getting injured.

Blossomtoes · 22/08/2021 16:09

You may think that @Roussette but extensive use of Google fails to uncover any evidence of it. Perhaps your skills are better than mine?

OP posts:
SpindleWhorl · 22/08/2021 16:10

I thought the PPOs were supplied by the Met? On behalf of the State?

SpindleWhorl · 22/08/2021 16:10

I genuinely don't know the 'rules'. Murky, though.

Roussette · 22/08/2021 16:14

Extensive use of google for what?

Roussette · 22/08/2021 16:15

Duty bound to report back if there is criminal activity in the vicinity of PA?

Roussette · 22/08/2021 16:16

If so... here...

Dai Davies, a former head of the protection unit, said the prince's bodyguards might be able to corroborate his account that he never had sexual relations with his accuser in 2001.

But he added: 'I would have expected Prince Andrew to have been severely warned on the dangers of liaising with Epstein. This is an extraordinary case. I would have expected officers in royalty protection to bring matters to senior officers' attention far earlier.'

Caroline Pidgeon, Lib Dem deputy chairman of the London Assembly police and crime committee, said: 'If royal protection security staff ever suspect that criminal activity is taking place at a venue they are present at, they have an obligation to take action. Turning a blind eye should never be an option.'
