My DH almost put the dishwasher on

Just got in and the dishwasher is 3/4 full and there are some dirty mugs on the worktop. My DH saw me filling it and he said he almost put it on. He was trying to work out if the mugs would fill it, apparently. Then he looked in the cupboard and couldn't see the dishwasher tablets.
No more to be done then. Has your partner almost done anything today?

My DH put his beer bottle on the counter right above the recycling bin. It was next to last night’s one so they could keep each other company.

SummerHouse · 08/08/2021 20:08

Well that was fun while it lasted.

Why is men's incompetence blamed on the woman for allowing it / putting up with it / finding humour in it. And not the full grown incompetent man for being it?

Byheckythump · 08/08/2021 20:08

@captainpillows

Mine very nearly made it putting laundry into the basket, dirty jeans, folded and placed on top of the closed lid....so so close to the mammoth task of placing them inside.
Ooh. So close. Good effort though!

MustTryHarderToBeAPARDer. But is it almost funny?

My husband vacuumed the house. He does a lot but I have to go and look.
I always have to be told what he has done and then see.
But he is very good at doing his fair share.

Because you tolerate this shit. They are only incompetent because they get away with it with a 'oh ha ha, tut tut MEN' it's not fucking funny in the slightest.

This. It’s like those ‘aren’t men daft!’ features in shit magazines.

DismantledKing · 08/08/2021 20:13

I can’t see why it’s so hilarious why men can’t perform very basic domestic tasks

Greyrootszerohoots · 08/08/2021 20:15

Did the people who don’t find it funny marry saints? Where are these perfect men that waft through the home polishing while emitting a cloud of intoxicating pheromones.

It’s funny because I’m sure my DH has no chance because I’m more uptight than him. I will always spot this that need doing first, because my level of tolerance is lower. No one is at fault, neither right or wrong, we are just two different personalities living in slightly different ways and having a laugh about it.

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2021 20:16

No, just adults I expect.

RandomMess · 08/08/2021 20:17

DH almost booked some concert tickets today (he's never been to a concert".

Thankfully he cracked on and did the various domestic chores that needed doing as per usual.

Byheckythump · 08/08/2021 20:21

Seatoski. Above the recycling? How environmentally friendly.

In the recent heatwave ,DH couldn’t sleep because he was too hot , but he does t know where the sheets are kept , so couldnt get one to sleep under , so sweated under the duvet for another night ( I laughed in disbelief and thought it served the git right )

TobysGreatAunt · 08/08/2021 20:23

Still waiting for DH to almost load the dishwasher. Started then got distracted by the Olympic highlights.

I'm determined not to do it seeing as I cooked abs prepared dinner Grin

Thelnebriati · 08/08/2021 20:26

Hey OP, point him to the other thread where someone's teenage DS rescued a toddler off the street and tell him to buck his ideas up!

What's a man to do? Take off the duvet and put a jacket on, maybe? Grin

The small human spilt something on the sofa throw, DH helped me take the throw off the sofa and I see he has left it on the floor under the washing machine. The washing machine is empty. At least he carried it from the lounge to the kitchen.

Makes me chuckle that some PP can't see that there is any space between 'lazy useless asshole who does nothing' and 'domestic god'. There's 20,000 chores to be done every day, I sure as shit don't do my fair share perfectly so I don't expect my DH to.

WeatherwaxLives · 08/08/2021 20:41

DP almost put the plates in the dishwasher. He got them as far as the worktop directly above the dishwasher. As per usual.

However, he has cleaned the kitchen today (actually, not almost) and sorted all the odd socks, so he's not all bad!

I however have almost hung out some laundry and almost changed the bed. So I think he might be winning today Grin

AChickenCalledDaal · 08/08/2021 20:43

Almost made a cup of tea without being reminded that this involves more steps than switching the kettle on, buggering upstairs and forgetting about it. But did respond suitably promptly when reminded that the hot water wasn't going to climb out of the kettle and dance with the tea bag all on its own.

Byheckythump · 08/08/2021 20:44

It's no good. I've seen the error of my ways. I will almost divorce him tomorrow.

Does he want a fucking medal?

TobysGreatAunt · 08/08/2021 20:50

DH loaded dishwasher but that was it ! No tablet loaded ... nothing !

3catsandcounting · 08/08/2021 20:59

I think some posters on here are rather missing the point that our DH’s who ‘almost do things’ are actually hard-working, loveable, good and decent men who we find endearing in their apparent incompetence. It’s just fun, people. We’re having a light-hearted joke. And they don’t mind, because they’re good, decent men who aren’t that precious.

PrinnyPree · 08/08/2021 21:04

My DH nearly booked me a weekend away in a European city for valentines day in 2020 he got as far as getting me a lonely planet guide to open and a print out of potential b&bs.

He's really good at household stuff (and genuinely a good husband and Dad) however I organise absolutley everything when it comes to trips out and holiday's. TBF I was in my 2nd trimester too and I think he wanted me to okay it before booking a flight, however he never picked the reigns back up and we drifted into lockdown 6 weeks later.
