Hope the dinner went okay @MissConductUS

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I also have mugs only for me. If using the Penguin books mugs I am always Persuasion, never Wuthering Heights. I have 4 Emma Bridgewater Christmas mugs which I reluctantly share with DH at the appropriate season.

We’ve stopped at a National Trust property 2 miles from the motorway for a picnic lunch and leg stretch as it is half way home. Many other families have done the same thing!

Silkiecats · 14/08/2021 14:52

Got dh a new pillow as his one has been yellow a while now and old. He is very happy with the new ones even though he was saying it wasn't necessary and is asleep on it.

Dh was earlier telling Silkiecat that she is the best cat in the world. She's shelf cat again for last 24 hours.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/08/2021 15:08

@HelenaJustina - I looked up Emma Bridgewater mugs - there are some lovely patterns!!
and then I fell down a mug themed rabbit hole: NordicNest, Rosenthal and so on...

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 15:20

The dinner was nice, thanks for asking @HelenaJustina. I had cheesecake with fresh pureed strawberry sauce for dessert pudding, so that alone made it worth it.

I got home around 9:00 PM last night and had to get up early as DS had a crew race about an hour away and had to be there by 6:00 this morning. DH drove up there with him but I had to make sure everyone was up and out on time.

I am now preparing to go back to work for another sodding meeting. This is becoming a bit much.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus @HelenaJustina I have Emma Bridgewater mugs, mostly in the various colours of the polka dot pattern, but also ladybirds, grasshoppers, and a couple of special commemorative ones. I may be slightly addicted…

Sunbird24 · 14/08/2021 15:36

@MissConductUS why are they doing sodding meetings on a Saturday?? That’s just rude.

Gingerwarthog · 14/08/2021 16:09

I have Emma Bridgwater Christmas mugs.
Thanks Silkie - back from a 60 length special (DD going for it) and my shoulders ache.
DH calls Wartycat (17) 'Young Man' - when DH brushes Wartycat the cat sticks out his tongue.... WC will also try to drink DH's shower water...

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 17:20

Sunbird, it's a Zoom meeting with a committee of our board of directors, who are volunteers. The Saturday timing is for their convenience. I'm on hand in case there are any silly questions that no one else can answer.

I had to come in as there are a few of us on the Zoom call and they wanted us all in one place. Fortunately, this particular meeting is only once a year. I have my camera and microphone turned off so I can web surf until they need me to jump in.

It's cooler today and DS's boat won the race he was in this morning.

We are home after 8 hours in the car. Confused

Things may have been better but 45 minutes into the journey it transpired that DH had left his driving glasses in my car. With much grumbling a good spirit I turned about, thinking nothing of adding another 90 minutes to my journey in order to reunite him with them.

DS and I got home, chucked a wash on, emptied the cold box and are going to the pub for a pint Wink

HelenaJustina · 14/08/2021 18:16

We did 2.5 hours, stopped for just over 3 and then did another 2. Just stopped at a Macdonald’s 25 minutes from home to feed the beasts as there will be no food at home. Very jealous of your pub trip @Champagneforeveryone, alcohol is still a blur on the horizon for me!

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 18:24

Champagne, that is a really long time in the car.

So you were driving DH's car and your car was back at the holiday location? How is his knee?

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 14/08/2021 18:47

helena, that sounds at least an acceptable journey. A McDonalds at the end would cheer me up no end as well (I'm easily won over with trashy food Wink)

I'm driving my car thank goodness DH has kept DS's little car. DH drove mine up as DS drove part of the way in his and he and DH do not have the temperaments to drive together, so I am designated driving instructor.

The Knee is apparently "absolutely fine". We shall see what occurs after the drive home in a manual car Hmm

DS is just ordering a Chinese to be delivered on our return from the pub

Squirrel26 · 14/08/2021 19:32

The best part of a long journey is getting a McDonalds. Not that there's a great deal of competition for the 'best part'.

I'm watching Virgin River on Netflix. I'm almost at the end of series 1 and I cannot remember what the main character is called. I think it might be Izzy? Or Amy? Or Megan?

nancybotwinbloom · 14/08/2021 19:39

We glossed some skirting boards today

nancybotwinbloom · 14/08/2021 19:39

After parking threads and bin war threads this is my favourite

Squirrel26 · 14/08/2021 19:40

Nope. It's Mel. Grin

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 19:43

@80sMum

The shelves I ordered from IKEA, to display my mugs collection, arrived yesterday and I'm hoping to persuade DH to put them up today (I'm useless with drills!).
@80sMum, welcome, and please forgive my tardy welcome and thanks for sharing your home furnishing news.

I'll try and make this as dull and unexciting as possible. I did a quite big shop today with DS nearly 10, as we're going on a picnic with friends tomorrow where we'll jointly celebrate our birthdays, also he's got summer school on Monday so I had to buy tuna for his sandwich, as Sainsbury's will be shut by the time we get back. I couldn't leave him with DH as he doesn't sit with him when he's hyper. He loves the disabled child trolley.

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 20:05

Welcome, @TheLovelinessOfDemons, and thanks for your appropriately calming and mundane shopping and picnic preparation news. My kids never cared for tuna, but the cats are certainly fond of it. I had one cat who could be summoned from anywhere in the house by the sound of a can tin being opened.

Squirrel, did you like Virgin River? I've just had a look on Netflix and it looks interesting.

The board committee meeting is droning on and will probably go another two hours or so.

I feel for you @MissConductUS - what a week it’s been for you!

I painted some fence panels with wood preservative today. DH could bear it no longer after I had painted two and a bit panels very slowly, he came our and insisted I have a rest and proceeded to apply the preservative much for efficiently to the remaining almost two panels while I did the fiddly bits at the ends and corners etc.

I feel it is only right to report on this thread that it was very satisfying watching the paint(preservative) dry as it was bright orange in the tin but much better after it had dried.

SJaneS49 · 14/08/2021 20:26

Took my too tight strapless bra immediately off after getting home earlier. Realised 30 minutes ago we were out of dog food and I’d have to go to the shops. Debated for five minutes the necessity of putting a bra on again or jiggling my big boobs around Sainsbury’s/potential nipple showage from shop AC ..and whether I really gave a monkeys about either.

Slung husbands super large saggy jumper over my maxi dress to solve issue. Left house looking like a dumper truck. It’s 22 degrees outside.

Sunbird24 · 14/08/2021 20:30

My best friend sent me some flowers (peonies!) but DPD seem to have managed to deliver them somewhere other than the main entrance to where I live, so I went out for a drive round to look for them (they told her they’d left them outside the gate - wherever that is!) No sign of them, so I went to the supermarket and bought myself a nice little pale pink Flaming Katy (Kalanchoe)

Squirrel26 · 14/08/2021 20:31

@MissConductUS it’s growing on me. It’s very easy to watch and I’m slightly more invested then not knowing the main character’s name might suggest.

There was an annoying medically inaccurate scene just now where a woman had a ‘hypo’ that was attributed to her not bothering to take her insulin. It didn’t last long though. Grin

MissConductUS · 14/08/2021 20:49

Welcome, @SJaneS49, and thanks for sharing your sartorial, pet food and shopping news. We get our cat food delivered with our monthly Amazon subscribe and save order. There's also a website here called chewy.com that is brilliant for fast delivery of pet food.

We are really having a bumper crop of new posters today! Grin

Squirrel, I have mostly given up on medical-themed TV shows because of the errors and misinformation. The only one I've ever really liked is Nurse Jackie, mostly because the characters very realistic.

Sunbird, that was really thoughtful of your friend.

Nydj, you have raised the standard for dull here by reporting on paint drying. Grin

Squirrel26 · 14/08/2021 21:01

The medical content is largely incidental, tbh. It's mainly angst and complex romantic situations. And nice scenery.

Having a cup of tea.
