We've gone on holiday by mistake

I feel like Withnail and I..
It's pouring with rain and we're staying on a farm in a really shoddy barn conversion. The bedroom door doesn't fit the frame so it doesn't shut.
There's no lock on the bathroom door.
The bathroom is accessed through a kid's bedroom so we have to creep through to go in the night and then wake up a grumpy teen to shower in the morning.
Shower goes intermittently cold.
Oven doesn't work and we like to cook.
The double bed was pushed against the wall so we moved it to get access both sides - and the skirting board fell off!
The TV is a wall mounted one but it's not mounted, just resting against the wall.
No bedside table, nowhere to hang clothes and nowhere to eat except on trays(which we had to buy) or an outside patio (see previous grumble about the weather).
There are several electrical violations we can spot - not least the outdoor patio light is powered by an ordinary plug set up outside and getting wetter by the second!
When I mentioned some of this to the owner he said the bathroom door lock was off because someone's kid was 'acoustic' and they had to come off.
We're chalking it up to experience and reporting to the company we booked through.

Anyone had worse. Make me feel better!

I can't believe it! We got a full refund from Airbnb!!! The support has been first class and it was definitely worth sending all the photos!!
The owner is still disputing the refund but that's between them and him now. I hope they let him know what the problems were.

I've posted an honest review so people know what they are getting and think again. I can't see it online yet though. I hope it goes on before anyone else books this place.

You can't really blame the owner as he'd heard you were a famous karaoke performer and wanted to do a documentary of your exciting life during the pandemic..yes,..he may have been a bit overzealous and intrusive by trying on your myriad of stage costumes that you were known to travel with...i.e...itsy bitsy teeny weeny polka dot bikini, etc., but I'm sure it was because he just couldn't help himself as he was a bit unhinged by having such a World Famous guest in his midst

I go on holiday by mistake a lot. I've been to Bampton too where the famous telephone box scene is located and Haweswater too! Embrace the weird and enjoy life.

Update on Pastyandacustardslice and myself (met via a Mumsnet Classic thread where we had also gone on holiday by mistake). We got back in touch as a result of me meeting this thread, and met up for lunch and hanging out en familles a week ago. We’ve had some better holidays since, although Patsy’s most recent one apparently smelled of damp.

We've had our main holiday this year and just booked two nights in a new.. Yha.. To see family, four hour drive.

Supposed to be all new and in a beautiful old hall. Ie newly painted and refurbished.
The accmd isn't it the beautiful old hall at all but in spider and mosquito infested huts... With damp and cold air.
We don't think we can stay another night sadly. For us this was a bonus I feel for the people who have their main holiday here.

When I was a teen my parents took me on a road trip in Australia with some family friends who lived there. I remember turning up at a beach town and the dads went off to find accommodation while the mums and kids checked out the town. We were hoping for somewhere nice to stay because the previous night had been spent in a grotty caravan in an apocalyptic rain storm.

We were eventually taken to a guest house that was straight out of the 50s. Formica everywhere. All decor was bright orange or lime green and the carpets would have been visible from space. The beds were mattresses propped up on bricks and a couple of friendly cockroaches were in residence.

The dads got thoroughly bollocked by the mums and they ended up booking the penthouse apartment at a lovely seafront hotel for the next few nights to redeem themselves.

As an adult, I once managed to book a room in an old people’s home for a few days. Only figured it out after we checked in.
