Just went down a YouTube wormhole watching Borderline and Dress You Up, thought they were the best but then the Blonde Ambition songs like Vogue and Express Yourself followed...

My favourite song was Dear Jessie.

MasterChefz · 07/08/2021 22:21

Immaculate collection era definitely.

I loved listening to Madonna growing up. Vogue, holiday, into the groove, material girl and music are particular favourites.

ew1990 · 07/08/2021 22:26

I love the immaculate collection, I grew up with my Nan playing it everyday!

But true blue is my favourite Madonna song.

You lot have made me want to play Madonna and dance around the bedroom Grin

I love every album up to Ray of Light then I lost interest. I've got them all on lp and cd and a few on cassette and a few 12 inches - Dress You Up 12 inch is fabulous. Gambler is a great song that seems to have been forgotten.

If I had to pick a favourite album it would be True Blue. Papa Don't Preach, La Isla Bonita, Open Your Heart, Live to Tell - they all still sound so amazing and fresh.

Into the Groove - me and my sister nearly wore our copy out! Loved 80s Madonna, she was the nuts

DramaAlpaca · 07/08/2021 23:03

Like a Prayer is my all time favourite, followed by Hung Up.

@CheerfulBunny

The Say Goodbye video (with the matador) is incredibly sexy, she looks so beautiful. It's a gorgeous song - about Sean Penn, I believe?? I love Holiday, Dress You Up, Material Girl and Lucky Star so all the earlier pop stuff, basically.
Do you mean "Take a bow"? She did look very classy in that video and she got the part as Eva Peron after sending it to the director. There is also a sequel to that video "You'll see".

I still have The Immaculate Collection on cassette too.

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2021 09:36

Like a prayer is my favorite song of hers

KatherineJaneway · 08/08/2021 09:37

True Blue era. Papa Don't Preach is excellent.

SofaSpuds · 08/08/2021 09:39

Like a prayer is my favourite too!

PolaDeVeboise · 08/08/2021 10:31

Everything up to and including 'Confessions' - depends what mood I'm in.

Anyone else hate 'Holiday' though?

whatthejiggeries · 08/08/2021 10:32

I also liked frozen and thought she looked great in that

Noshowwithoutpunch · 08/08/2021 10:37

Immaculate Collection era.
Crazy for you was just the best ever.

onemouseplace · 08/08/2021 10:40

Ray of Light is my favourite album. Favourite songs are definitely Like a Prayer and La Isla Bonita.

I also had a soft spot at the time for the Dick Tracy album, I'm Breathless.

TheVanguardSix · 08/08/2021 10:47

Her first album is everything! Lucky Star!

How beautiful was she in the video for Borderline?

Justify My Love was fabulous. The video was just gorgeous. Timeless.

I love Hung Up and really loved Confessions on a Dance Floor.

BeetleyCarapace · 08/08/2021 10:52

Ray Of Light, Music and American Life (I know, I must be the only one who likes that album). I didn’t mind Confessions, although I can’t be bothered with it now. Anything after Confessions is a bit… non-essential (although Ghosttown from Rebel Heart is an amazing song).

PolaDeVeboise · 08/08/2021 10:55

@onemouseplace - I LOVE that album - 'Hanky Panky', 'I'm Going Bananas', 'Sooner or Later', bloody brilliant.

LagneyandCasey · 08/08/2021 10:57

Another wonderful thing about Madonna was her videos. They told a story and she looks so different and plays a different character in every single one.

Bluetoybear · 08/08/2021 11:07

Cherish Smile

the80sweregreat · 08/08/2021 11:58

Like a virgin is another classic number ..
Well produced and catchy

lollipoprainbow · 08/08/2021 11:59

Into the groove I dressed like her from the video when I was 14!

Ineedaduvetday · 08/08/2021 12:17

La Isla Bonita

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 08/08/2021 12:28

Live to Tell - I love the music video, its for the film "at close range" and Sean Penn is bloody gorgeous.

You'll see
Take bow
crazy for you

OhWhyNot · 08/08/2021 12:33

La Isla Bonita and Justify My Love

Really liked Confessions on a Dancefloor and heard a few songs from the last album that were quite good but everything else recently had been really dull

True Blue was released 35 years ago this week 😮 I remember going with my friend that Saturday to Our Price and buying the cassette
