So today I had a call from a man from HMRC...
He said I was being investigated for tax fraud...
He said he could arrange a solicitor for me...
And when I said "How exciting!", he told me to "Fuck off"

I don't think he works for HMRC

I think you might be right, then again😁

Sojo88 · 06/08/2021 19:53

It was a good response OP 😂

Funnylittlefloozie · 06/08/2021 19:54

Haha I love your response. Somehow, I don't think he works for HMRC either.

Oldraver · 06/08/2021 19:54

I bought a lovely old fashioned GPO phone, it's very pretty but does not have call barring

Ive had nuisance calls about my NI number everyday since

TillyTopper · 06/08/2021 19:55

A few weeks ago I had a call from a man also saying he was from HMRC. I replied "oh for god's sake why don't you fuck off to Scamsville and stay there?" They called back.. it was actually HMRC. Luckily they had a sense of humour.

Divebar2021 · 06/08/2021 19:56

I’m being investigated by the National Crime Agency because my NI has been flagged in some investigation. I really want to press 1 on my phone to speak to a Special Agent about it but I don’t think my employer (who owns the phone ) would appreciate the huge bill. I work for the Met Police.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/08/2021 19:58

I should add - this was preceded by a missed call from them, me calling back and them then asking what my name was.

"You called me?!"

Apparently they needed my name for security, but what if I was another scammer pretending to be me?

I reckon I must be on a ‘most wanted’ list due to the amount of tax fraud I’m apparently being investigated for.
Love your response Op .

PurpleMustang · 06/08/2021 20:03

I had one recently telling me if I didn't speak to them they would authorised my arrest. Oppps I hung up

🤣🤣 They're probably used to it! I was thinking the other day it must be hard for companies to actually get in touch with people now as the scammers make everything seem suspicious!
vodkaredbullgirl · 06/08/2021 20:04

Hmm was a nice try, by him lol

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/08/2021 20:21

@PurpleMustang and yet, here you are.... AT LARGE!

People who are on PAYE don't give their phone number or email to HMRC yet some still fall for scams like this.

That's hilarious 😆

Sorry

I’ve had a call this week from ‘a government agency’ regarding my new British passport. I don’t have and have never had a British passport. I’m not British and have a passport from my own country. Had good fun stringing them along!

ShanghaiDiva · 06/08/2021 20:27

They also phoned me as I owed tax and am about to be arrested. I asked for which year and they said 2016 to 2018. I explained this was two tax years and which one did I owe the money for. HMRC lady told me not be rude, not to interrupt and then hung up.
No doubt I will be arrested as soon as I leave the house.
What will the neighbours think...?

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/08/2021 20:27

@Parker231 maybe you're going to be recruited by MI5?

Yabu. Maybe his customer service skills were just a bit rusty what with Covid and all!!

Honestmary · 06/08/2021 20:28

I’m still waiting for them to come and arrest me, however my husband pointed out that they may be looking for me in the local hospitals due to the accident I was in several weeks ago 🤔. Anyhoo, as long as they don’t come tonight as I’ve got a snickers bar chilling in the fridge which I plan to eat whilst watching the handmaids tale from Sunday 😜

SkyLarkDescending · 06/08/2021 20:29

Brilliant response OP.

I've been away on hols this week. Had two texts from Royal Mail telling me I had a parcel waiting at the depot and it could only be released if I called to pay excess shipping charge. I assumed scam but was very confused to return home and find a post office calling card saying my parcel was behind the bin - nothing there!
Luckily my neighbour came round with it before I called them up!

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/08/2021 20:34

@Honestmary, don't you find people are so kind when you've been in an accident that wasn't your fault? They listened to me crying on the phone about the burning wreck of my car for nearly 3 minutes....

Honestmary · 06/08/2021 20:46

@LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE funnily enough, the last chap I spoke to didn’t seem that bothered that I had lost a leg, my eyesight and was in a coma, I mean, those are all fairly serious if you ask me. He just seemed to want to talk over me, even though I was in a coma, RUDE.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/08/2021 20:47

@Honestmary young people these days....

I only seem to get automated calls. They're no fun at all. Although I did snap at one, I haven't had one for a while....Grin

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 06/08/2021 20:50

I’ve had at least four text messages every day for the last ten days, telling me I have a voice mail. I block the number, another pops up. Last one about half an hour ago.
