Obviously stupid.

I have a cordless electric carpet sweeper, which is great for a quick tidy up. However after around 4 years, the battery went into a huff and refused to charge up.
I ordered a new battery which is due to arrive today, so I plugged the sweeper in to charge so it would be ready to go once my DH had put the new battery in.
Some thirty minutes later, I realised that actually I was charging the dud battery, not the actual sweeper! 😳
Obviously stupid.
Please tell me your obviously stupid moments to make me feel, well, less obviously stupid.

Ha ha I did The same kind of thing last weekend while doing some diy .

The battery on my cordless drill with running flat so I put it back on charge and pick the drill up and wondered why it didn't work took me about 5 seconds to realise why.
I felt like a right prat I'm glad there was nobody watching

Just this morning I patted myself on the back for being organised and finally putting a wash on after a night shift.

Then thought I'd have a lovely long bath.

It wasn't until I got in the bath I realised I'd put both my bath towels in the machine.

May have had to use a teatowel Blush

Adult dd rushed home on her lunch hour as her new phone had arrived and she wanted it ASAP.
Come 5.30 pm she is back all excited.
Except she hadn't put the battery in!!

And keys! That horrible panicky feeling that you’ve put your phone or keys down and can’t remember where and then realise you’re holding them!

Sunglasses on my head is another!

Yesterday I poured the freshly boiled kettle water into the tea canister with all the tea bags in instead of my mug with just one tea bag in.

MotionActivatedDog · 06/08/2021 12:19

I regularly try to cook dinner without switching the oven on. 20 minutes later I wonder why I can’t smell anything cooking.

iklboo · 06/08/2021 12:21

@MotionActivatedDog - how? I've never done that ever. No. Not me. Nuh-uh. Or in the coffee jar either. Can't see how it could happen LOOK OVER THERE!! 😄

Oh yes, the time I drove round and round the same level of a multi storey car park, forgetting that I had to go down the ramp to get out Blush It was a car park I used regularly too.

I felt so stupid, but I was in the throes of perimenopausal brain fog at the time.

OhGiveUp · 06/08/2021 12:32

These have cheered me up. I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who suffers from obviously stupid 😂
Looking for my reading glasses that are on top of my head, yes that's another one for me.

Trying to change the channel on the TV and wondering why it won't work, getting really angry as I'd only recently put batteries in it...then realising that I'm change to change channels using my mobile phone.

I'm stoopid too

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 06/08/2021 12:45

OhGiveUp · 06/08/2021 12:54

@Thanksforyourcommentrandomman 😂 I recently got frustrated at the cordless computer mouse not working. I changed the batteries, called it some nasty names and eventually stomped downstairs to moan to my DH about it.
He opened it, took the bit out that you need to plug into the computer, plugged it in and left the room shaking his head 😳

I've never done that.

I always remember to put the oven.

I don't always remember, however, to put the food in the oven on the rare times I actually preheat it, however.

Frantically tidying up before leaving the house I threw a £20 note into the bin, and a chocolate wrapper into my purse.

PurpleDaisies · 06/08/2021 13:16

I’ve put orange squash in the washing machine instead of fabric conditioner.

Ha ha, I watched a guy struggling with this at work, let him rant and rave for around 10 minutes before pointing out that he needed to plug the USB bit into the laptop.

I'm really glad it's not just me! I remember years ago when I was still living at home, we went out for a few hours. Mum stayed at home. As we came back in, we heard Mum call out, " Can one of you switch the potatoes on please?" I saw a pan on the cooker top so switched the corresponding ring on. Sometime later, Mum went into the kitchen. " Paaainnntter!" Apparently, it was an empty saucepan, it was stuck to the cooker ring and the pan handle had melted......
Reader, the potatoes were in the oven!GrinBlush

Yep. Also check looking for it while talking on it

Once shouted the dog frantically thinking I'd lost her, couldn't see her, start panicking, started to turn to retrace my steps and almost stood on her.
She'd been behind me waiting patiently the entire time 🤦

TobyLicious · 06/08/2021 13:31

DH left his phone at home, he uses it when out and about working, so I was the dutiful wife and rang him to tell him he'd left his phone behind
I was surprised when I heard his phone ringing on the kitchen worktop 🙈

iklboo · 06/08/2021 13:31

Oh we're definitely of the 'the chicken will probably cook quicker if we actually put it in the oven' camp.

I do this all the time. Also pushing my “glasses” up my nose when I’m wearing my contacts.
