How much does everyone spend on fuel?!

I know it obviously depends on a lot of factors but I'm just trying to see if we're spending more than average.

We have a petrol car and live quite rurally. We can't get anywhere without the car. We also tend to short local journeys often.

I think we're spending around £200 a month in petrol.

TIA

It really depends. How far from your nearest shopping town are you? Do you ferry kids to activities how often and how far away are they? How long is your commute?

My fuel bill now is approx£50 a month but when I had a long commute and 3 kids to run around it was easily £275 a month

SweatyBetty20 · 04/08/2021 16:33

£70 a month in a Ford Focus. But no kids, so no school runs, and working from home at the moment. It's just social, supermarket shopping, and a trip up to the Lakes from Gtr Mcr to go walking once a month. Was around £50 but petrol prices have bumped it up. I do walk and cycle for short trips when I can.

VenusClapTrap · 04/08/2021 16:39

I have an electric car which I charge at home during the night when electricity costs are low, so it’s buttons really. The car itself was expensive though.

£28 per month. Skoda petrol and £100 in diesel also Skoda. Both used for work etc. Live rurally.

icedcoffees · 04/08/2021 16:47

I probably fill my tank once a month, and that costs around £45.

DH fills his weekly for about the same price.

AwFeebs · 04/08/2021 16:48

Around 6 miles to shopping town but its small and I often have to go further so more like 10 miles for decent shop.

No commute yet but soon will be around 10 miles again. Lucky that kids clubs are at school for now. Schools a 10 min journey about 5 miles away.

We have an electric car so almost nothing

Brokenrecord3006 · 04/08/2021 16:57

We're 45 mins from the nearest town and supermarket and live rurally, plus I commute to town. I spend around £150 per month on petrol.

EastWestWhosBest · 04/08/2021 16:58

Next to nothing. It costs £45 to fill up and I must fill up about 4 times a year or so.

Comedycook · 04/08/2021 17:01

£20 a week...live in suburban London...use car for shopping and taking kids out locally and to see family mostly

Intercity225 · 04/08/2021 17:02

Covid apart, we spend around £200 pcm on petrol for 2 cars. We live on the edge of the countryside, and have to use the car to get anywhere; and we go to visit family 3 hours away, every month too.

Do you never use it?!

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 04/08/2021 17:12

I try to stick to one tank per month, which it usually is unless we go away. So about £65 per month. 10 mile round trip to school/work.

caughtinanet · 04/08/2021 17:12

Unless you are making unnecessary journeys or buying expensive petrol how can you spend any less than it costs to go where you need to go?

I can't fathom how knowing what other people spend can help you in any way?

Will you not go to buy food one week or miss a few days at school/work to get down to how much I spend for example Grin

I'm a little baffled by the question tbh

AbsolutelyPatsy · 04/08/2021 17:15

generally £25 per week, about 30 miles a day not including weekends,

I'm also baffled. Surely it's dependant on the amount of miles you do per month?
Mixitupalot · 04/08/2021 17:24

I spend £225 a month on diesel, I have a long commute though.

LubaLuca · 04/08/2021 17:26

We fill up both cars probably once every 6 weeks or so, costing roughly £60 a tank. It's A LOT less than it was 2 years ago - DH has only worked from home during this time, and we're going fewer places generally.

AwFeebs · 04/08/2021 17:30

£80 for a full tank every 3-4ish weeks maybe? Central London, don't drive far distances.

Floralnomad · 04/08/2021 17:32

More than I used to with the excessively high petrol costs

EastWestWhosBest · 04/08/2021 17:37

Hardly ever @sanityisamyth.
It’s 5 years old and has 9000 miles on the clock.

Fair enough!! Mine is nearly 10 years old and done over 150,000 miles 🙈

ExtremelyDisorganised · 04/08/2021 17:42

About £25 a week (commuting = 60-80 miles a week, DCs sports about 100 miles a week, other weekend stuff such as shopping, days out, maybe another 50).
