Congratulations to them.

I always thought there was a higher risk of spontaneous miscarriage if a woman becomes pregnant very soon after having a baby? So in a sense, it was a bit optimistic to plan another baby with a short gap although I accept some are lucky that way.

If the announcement was in blue, does that mean it's another boy?

Thanks for additional reading material BakeOff it’s incredible how little the electorate seems to care about these issues. Have we all just been worn down by the relentless stream of such stories? Really erodes trust in government.

StoneColdBitch · 31/07/2021 23:12

Regardless of what one thinks of Boris, there are some depressing comments on this thread. In talking about her miscarriage publicly, Carrie Johnson is helping to normalise talking about baby loss. It's horrid to see people on here accusing her of being "attention-seeking" or of making it up.

MimiDaisy11 · 01/08/2021 00:11

On the issue of whether the announcement or the baby was for some good PR to cover some negative issue, it's surely hard to tell as there's always something bad going on with this government.

End or substantial change to furlough? The economic collapse is depending with potentially issues with a winter of discontent if personal financial issues become a mass issue. This is despite the government being corrupt and wasting in excess of £37+billion on a unfit for purpose test, track and trace run by political mates with no prior experience let alone expertise or even simply competence or the new gaslighting Health minister repackaging the NHS in a new learner hybrid public private partnership. Just a few possibilities so the current leader who caused the mess can leave his post for “family reasons” before any independent ie not predetermined pubic enquiry to find gross negligent manslaughter but just state “unprecedented” once in lifetime global health emergency and UK despite per capita world beating negative Covid data can state world beating in vaccinations and did not need to impose hard lockdowns etc.
HmmmmmmInteresting · 01/08/2021 02:30

Why doesn’t he use contraception? It’s very odd in this day and age. Gross. Just yuck.

Maybe he uses condoms supplied by the same dodgy contracts the PPE came from

What wonderful news for a down to earth, conscientious couple who conduct themselves with such integrity, humility and grace. I am sure the nation will join me in their delight at this news

The Times:

“It will be Boris Johnson’s seventh known child”.

Ohbuggeroffcovid · 01/08/2021 07:02

The difference here is money and the simple fact he is a man.

Imagine the vitriol if he was a woman, with 3 ex’s, children of various parentage and an unknown actual number of offspring because of deliberate vagueness. And if she was moaning she couldn’t afford them?

Roussette · 01/08/2021 07:16

Totally agree Ohhuggeroffcovid The outcry if this were a woman would be deafening.

I'll just drop this here... Johnson talking of a population explosion.

Hypocrite.

There's such a range of topics on this thread.

First I think CJ was insensitive to refer to 'fertility' especially as her career was in 'comms'.

She gave birth last April 2020, was pregnant presumably 6 to 7 months later, if she miscarried in Jan/ Feb 2021.

And then she conceived again around March 2021. That's hardly an issue with fertility as such and early miscarriages are very common indeed. (Not dismissing the emotional trauma, but many women don't even know they have had one if it's really early. )

Second, I don't think it's relevant to discuss their age gap or BJ's age. Gordon Brown became a father for the first time over 50. Plenty of men have 2nd families in their 50s.

Third- the number of children he has. I don't think it's unreasonable to have a 2nd child with another wife. The real question is why he had 4 in his previous marriage.

The other two 'love children'- well, yes, carelessness by both parties involved.

Port1aCastis · 01/08/2021 07:56

Well I'm skiving I had 2 miscarriages last year and forgot to tell the daily fail.

We know he has at least one daughter as well as his children with his wives. It is cruel to refer to her as a ‘carelessness’. His expectation that everyone will pretend she doesn’t exist makes it very difficult to feel positive when he shares the details of his latest family.

I understand why Carrie would want more children, and I think she is genuinely trying to help by being open about her miscarriage. However she also chose to marry a man who has not acted with honour or integrity and that will impact how her news is received.

Roussette · 01/08/2021 08:11

Exactly.
It makes me think of Melania Trump. I have no time whatsoever for her, but anything she did announce or tweet would be dismissed because of her twat of a husband.
Understandable.

Rockbird · 01/08/2021 08:11

I'm very sorry for her loss, I wouldn't wish a miscarriage on my worst enemy, and I hope she has a healthy trouble free pregnancy, of course.

But I despise him with every fibre of my being Angry

medlenno · 01/08/2021 08:12

Just imagine what sort of person you have to be to disavow your children (most of whom do not speak to him now)

Just imagine the lack of empathy you have to have (and this applies to Carrie) to have an affair when your wife has cancer (and any tall tales about affair with Carrie starting after he split are simply not true it was well before and caused the split)

By way of anecdote:

I was working near the Spectator offices some years ago and went to a cafe because my friend wanted to tell me she was pregnant, so she wanted quiet and privacy so we went downstairs which was empty, save two people at the back. We kept noticing them as he was Boris (I knew who he was from Oxford and the Spectator had made him semi-famous) and he was cajoling and shh-ing this dark-haired posh-sounding woman who was getting more and more upset and beside herself while he was getting angrily shssh -ey. In the end we had to leave as it was getting weird.

Years later found out he'd got Petronella Wyatt pregnant (realised then that this was the woman in the cafe) and got her to have an abortion, so this must have been one of these 'persuading sessions'.

I wish the child well, but these people are, well, just terrible really.

medlenno · 01/08/2021 08:19

By the way, the recent Daily Mail is wrong, he has been married three times.

Also, I'd spotted that the Daily Mail must have known she was pregnant a month before as they ran a piece using the code words "mother of one" and "wearing a billowing floral dress" so I knew she was up the duff (I'm an editor and work with someone who used to edit DM copy and we know all the coded messages ;))

MakemeaCake · 01/08/2021 08:28

Years later found out he'd got Petronella Wyatt pregnant (realised then that this was the woman in the cafe) and got her to have an abortion,

So Petronella didn't make a choice of her own?

This is old news. Petronella has written about it herself for the Fail.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 01/08/2021 08:30

Nice try, with the equivalence / distraction but it was a first marriage and first child for both Gordon and Sarah Brown.
Yes it’s perfectly understandable that Mrs J might want a second baby (or more), but given her publicly-stated environmental interests, one would think that perhaps she would take into account that her husband has made a significant personal contribution to the continuation of the species and hold back?

MakemeaCake · 01/08/2021 08:30

Sorry @merrymouse but it IS careless to make a baby when you are married to someone else, are having a fling, and have no intention of leaving your wife. His behaviour was careless - nothing to do with the character of the child.

MakemeaCake · 01/08/2021 08:33

@JosephineDeBeauharnais You ae muddling things up. The point I made was the age of the fathers. Yes, there is an age gap. So what?

As for the 2nd point- well, it just shows how hypocritical some people are.

CJ speaks of being 'blessed' every other sentence, yet she clearly doesn't follow the rules of Catholicism.

Affair with a married man, pregnant out of wedlock, pregnant again for the when they married in a Catholic church.
