You honestly have no substitution for three different bottles of white wine in the whole huge shop? Really?

No bleach either
Everyone’s houses must be very clean
Unless Trump bought it all

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/07/2021 08:24

That’s crap! I had the opposite last week .... substituted my cheap crap with lovely taste the difference Sauvignon and gave me a voucher 🙌🥂

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 08:29

I am very jealous! Its not good is it, DH reckons its just a lazy picker, i however am so cross that i am contemplating going in the store to see for myself! Also cross that they make it stupidly hard to contact them.
Extra fummin too as all the wines are still showing on the website as available…. Wonders if they know too much about my wine habits and are trying to save me 🤨

Sainsbury’s online picker here! Shopping starts at 4am and lasts until around 10am at the same time shelves are being restocked. Assuming you just got your online order it means your shopping would have been one of the first to be picked and so it’s plausible that the wine was not available/had not been restocked when your order was picked but is now available as it will have been restocked. Also plausible that it just wasn’t available due to the extreme shortages in delivery’s at the moment- bleach as someone mentioned, drinks, pasta and crisp/cereals have all been effected recently

Quirrelsotherface · 31/07/2021 08:37

Not so plausible that no substitutes were available though!

Mindymomo · 31/07/2021 08:38

My Tesco order came with no bottled water, perhaps I should sub it with wine. I did go in store to check and yes, they virtually had no bottled water. Shelves are not exactly bursting with supplies.

newnortherner111 · 31/07/2021 08:39

Substituting wine for another wine? The thought fills me with horror, wine being too specific. I'm surprised any supermarket would even offer an option for wine, beer or spirits.

MoiraNotRuby · 31/07/2021 08:42

There's loads of stuff they genuinely don't have and the pickers have to really really rush. If I do an online shop at the moment I treat it as a bonus if I get what I wanted and expect I will have to do a pop in shop too. But I blame Brexit rather than the shops themselves...

VinnieVanLowe · 31/07/2021 08:44

They did the same to me - one of the deals with 25% off if you buy 6 bottles. They only sent 5 bottles so it cost me more than buying 6. I complained and they just said people can be fussy about wine if they substitute. I said you can see from the 6 bottles I'd chosen that I'm not fussy about my wine. Plus you can reject a substitution. They refused to give me any discount on the 5 I had.

Never used them again for deliveries. Whenever I've had to call Tesco about issues with a delivery they refund items straight away and make allowances you have missed out in an offer.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 08:44

Well they do offer a box to tick if you don't want it subbed, i ticked yes to subs as i thought if one was out of stock then they could sub for one of the others, i simply cannot believe that all white wine was out of stock. My order is being delivered at 9 - 10 pm so cant understand why it would be one of the first to be picked!

I did my shop in store on Thursday and there wasn't a bottle of bleach in sight. Also no cooking oils or fizzy water. Very small variety of cat food too but luckily had the variety my cats eat so I will live to see another day.

AlmostSummer21 · 31/07/2021 08:45

I know it's annoying. My Tesco order yesterday was full of shorter than advertised products and right on the date. I was really annoyed as due to that ill struggle to get to my next delivery without having to go to a shop and I'll have to try to use things up in a very short time or waste them.

But then I know someone working at Morrison's, they are shattered. Hardly any staff, deliveries not arriving, things flying off the shelves quicker than they can put them on, they're majorly stressed out & exhausted.

So I took a deep breath or two and decided not to add to their stress.

Hopefully it'll all get sorted out soon.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 08:46

vinnie thats shoddy too.
I get that stuff goes out of stock and can deal with it but the fact they have not offered any alternative has pissed me off.

I got a great substitution from Sainsbury's yesterday. My bog standard Sauvignon was replaced with Pouilly Fume so very happy with that.

dappledsunshine · 31/07/2021 08:49

No bottled water AT ALL in the entire store for my online shop today Hmm same thing happened last week too....

EnglishGirlApproximately · 31/07/2021 08:53

I went to my local Sainsbury's yesterday and the shelves were bare - no bleach, flour, past, Coke, very little cereal etc. I'm not online shopping at the moment as availability is so hit and miss. With wine I assume they sub like for like, so would sub a chardonnay with another chardonnay etc so after seeing the shelves yesterday I can well believe thsy didn't have any.

dworky · 31/07/2021 08:55

@Quirrelsotherface

Not so plausible that no substitutes were available though!
I think it's very possible at the present time.
giletrouge · 31/07/2021 09:19

Please, please don't blame the staff. There are massive systemic and other issues at the moment that a) we were warned about b) cannot be solved on an individual basis and c) are not about to get any better.
If you ever watch any news at all you know what they are.

UpturnedUmbrella · 31/07/2021 09:20

That’s true there probably was a substitute although message in my store is that we can just click no subs at the moment because it’s not worth the hassle with every other item not being available and trying to meet the items per hour packed target. I get that it’s annoying though. On a funnier note we also got a message about realistic substitution after someone got a cauliflower instead of a watermelon Grin So at least you didn’t end up with water instead of wine or something

budgun · 31/07/2021 09:22

@Quirrelsotherface

Not so plausible that no substitutes were available though!

It really is. I was in the co op last night and they had a lot of empty shelves. Same with Tesco the other day. There is a real supply problem just now.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 31/07/2021 09:30

I was in asda yesterday (roughly 11am Friday) to get us a few bits for the weekend. If there were 30 bottles of all fizzy drinks (own brand and brand names) on the shelves they were doing well.

That appeared to be the only massive stock issue in ours, everything else seemed relatively ok

dottiedodah · 31/07/2021 09:30

Remember there is a serious shortage of many items all over ATM.I was shopping in there yesterday and there were gaps on the shelves . Brexit and a serious shortage of Lorry Drivers hasnt helped!

Inanun2 · 31/07/2021 09:32

Sometimes my online order misses crucial items to a recipe with no substitutions and I know if I go into the shop I will prob find it/substitute but I also know the staff have to pick a whole shop in a ridiculously short period of time and do multiple shops so they are under massive pressure.

The only time I get frustrated is when they miss milk and bread - I do not believe there was no suitable item at all in the shop !

I have learned though not to completely rely on an absolute essential being delivered and never completely run out it, I top up at a smaller shop or keeping long life versions of milk, par baked bread etc on standby.

FloofyCushion · 31/07/2021 09:35

Why are you all buying bottled water? I'm not being goady, I'm genuinely curious. I've been suspicious of my tap water for a while now but feel guilty buying the extra plastic.

MegaClutterSlut · 31/07/2021 09:53

I work in a supermarket and we have gaps all over. The bottled water is flying off the shelves for some reason. People seem to buy loads at a time, I'm talking at least 10 bottles as a minimum and we sell out sometimes by mid morning
