Eating our 10-a-day thread

I would like to try to start a project of getting my 10-a-day of fruit and veg in every day.

Anyone fancy joining me? I find groups on here of support so useful.

I know lentils and beans and chickpeas are part of it too so I will up them. I'm vegan so I'm hoping that should make things easier as I eat lentils as part of my diet anyway.

This thread is for everyone who would like to focus on 'eating the rainbow' as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Or anyone who does this already who has any hints and tips?

Well that's decided then. 2 portions a day it is 😁

Today's plate. A few things are gone already, the avocado, apple juice (which isn't in the photo ) and the dates/raisins.

I've made a tagine for tonight's dinner with the celery, aubergine, carrots, peppers, prunes, tinned tomatoes, chickpeas and herbs and spices. So that's dinner sorted. Then veg soup, with a little bowl of lentils, baked tomatoes and beetroot for lunch with oil and balsamic and a gf panini roll.

Sorted.

  1. & 2. Carrot & Ginger soup (carrots, cannellini beans)
3.,4. & 5. Smoky veggie chilli (peppers, sweet potato, mixed beans, onions, tomatoes)

The chilli was a Jamie Oliver recipe and had a lovely flavour which I think was down to the cocoa powder.

Yes, I didn’t know what to do with all the mincemeat I made, so I added a bit of crumble on top and ate it like a dessert with a bit of yoghurt.

Great idea. I'll give it a go, thanks.

I've had mincemeat on Greek yogurt for many winter breakfasts 😉 good choice.
Batch cooking today. I'm disabled and have had to go on 2 kinds of antibiotics which have completely knocked me out. Yesterday I managed some stir fry veg.
Anyway while I have the energy I'm making a stew heavy on tomato and chilli with green beans, carrots, leeks, spinach, red and green pepper, about a kilo of each vegetable. Loads of oregano and cooked till just done (and not too saucy/soupy, though some will become soup and pasta sauce). Big saucepans on the stove now. I'll freeze some too.

Wildernesstips · 09/12/2021 21:17

OtherPlans the stew sounds just the ticket. Hope you feel better soon.

  1. Satsuma
  2. & 3. Prezzo salad (contained lettuce, tomato, cucumber, avocado)
  3. Carrots
  4. Savoy cabbage
  5. Mincemeat crumble

Not sure what tomorrow will bring as I am working in the morning, then driving nearly 2 hours and meeting family for lunch that I'm pretty sure won't accommodate a vegan dish other than chips.

Not as many as I'd hoped here, but 6 portions:
Haricot beans
Apple juice
Spinach
Peppers
Hummus
Rocket

Breathmiller · 12/12/2021 06:53

Well done everyone.

I had a very poor day yesterday with only 3, on a long working day then burgers for dinner. I am choosing sweet potato fries over chips these days though.

Going out for lunch today but its a middle Eastern place snd my plate is usually full of veg and houmous and babaganoush. Can't wait.

So yesterday was...

  1. Dates
  2. Broccoli soup.
  3. Sweet potato

Yesterday I had crisps and chocolate as well as my burger at the end of a busy week and although that's fine of course it's amazing how rubbish I feel this morning compared to the last week when I've been doing really well at my 10 a day. While I've been getting 10, 11 or even 12 some days I just felt so good and I've lost a little weight. So, it's taken me a while but I now can see how much better I feel when I have a diet filled with veggies and not rubbish.

I'm going to go back to the plate out idea in the morning tomorrow for definite as it really works for me.

Thst salad looks lovely wilderness , I can't eat oranges, they flare my skin up which is a shame because I used to love them. They always look so fresh and juicy.

cantbeforeal · 12/12/2021 07:22

I'm going to try this, my diet is awful at the moment Shock I wish my toddler and teen would join in too but they refuse to eat any vegetables Blush

Breathmiller · 12/12/2021 08:22

Welcome cantbereal . Maybe if you focus on doing this for yourself they will slowly join in?
And at least you're getting more fruit and veg for you.
