There’s always something I forget! Our car is all packed for the off tomorrow but it feels like I’ve forgotten something.

The two of you who forgot a wheelchair must surely win!

FangsForTheMemory · 29/07/2021 23:47

My purse.

Hexinthecity · 29/07/2021 23:49

Tampons on a 2 week holiday to Cuba… they don’t have tampons in Cuba (😱) and the only sanitary protection they had in the all inclusive beach half of the holiday when I needed them were the 1970s style massive pads with loops on that you have to wear with a belt… kid you not…. It was horrific! Had to ditch the bikini for the entire duration and wear fucking shorts the whole time

trumpisagit · 29/07/2021 23:49

I packed for all of us (family of four) for 2 week camping trip to Europe. Kids were really small, so a major feat.

I forgot to put the bag with all my clothes in, in the car. I literally had the clothes I was wearing. First stop was hypermarket for underwear...

paddlingon · 29/07/2021 23:51

Once I forgot DH's trousers, another time his pants.
( He learned to do his own packing after that)

JustCallMeBubblesDahling · 29/07/2021 23:53

Nightwear for one/all of us, socks to wear with trainers, and adapters for foreign plugs. Every bloody time.

One time I forgot to pack contact lenses. Thankfully remembered to pack my glasses (god knows what I’d have done if I hadn’t as I’m very short sighted) which I literally only wear to find my way into bed at night and to find my way into the bathroom in the morning! That ruined the whole holiday for me as I hate wearing glasses, having them sliding down my sweaty face, they just irritate the hell out of me and I couldn’t wear sunglasses either.

Went abroad and left my main suitcase with all my medication in it at my parents house where we stayed the night before getting the channel tunnel. It even had all my soap and deodorant. I was unimpressed

Oh me too! Though it was mid summer. I wore a swimsuit virtually the whole holiday 😂

Stopped at Tesco 6 after leaving hospital after giving birth to baby no 3 . Popped her in the trolley in her car seat... wandered off round the shop, leaving her in the nappies isle! Dh was elsewhere in the shop with our eldest two and when he found me 'where's the BABY?!' Oops...

(Still in the nappies isle with shop workers cooing over her!!)

Took the kids to Sherwood forest while on a camping trip... then discovered that DD2 had no shoes on... (she was 13 so I wasn't very sympathetic!) She had sore feet by the end of the day!

Cash. I went to a small country in Africa that doesn’t have many cash machines and credit cards aren’t widely accepted. I had read about this in advance but completely forgot in the pre-holiday disorganisation. Realised on arrival. I had to eke out what I did have extremely carefully and come up with convoluted ways to transfer funds from my bank account in the one or two places this was possible. The money access issue put a real dampener on things. Finally managed to use my credit card to access cash when I arrived in the capital, but the holiday was pretty much over by that point.

I read an article in a paper about mishaps that had happened to travel writers and was amused to see someone had had the same experience in the same place.

@MojoJojo71

DD once left a backpack full of toys including a precious and irreplaceable jellycat bunny on the platform at Grantham train station. Luckily after posting on here about it a wonderful mumsnetter went to the station, collected it and posted it to us. Bless her, she wouldn’t even let me pay her for the postage

That is wonderful!

beigebrownblue · 30/07/2021 00:14

A photocopy of my passport.
Just in case it gets nicked.
Very important.

SusannahSophia · 30/07/2021 00:19

Forgot to take any shoes for DS1. He was 2 1/2 and I’d carried him to the car and strapped him in. Had to stop in Exeter on our way to Cornwall and find a shoe shop and buy him some sandals. This was pre smart phones so a bit stressful!

Eeeeeps · 30/07/2021 00:51

On a school trip, I forgot to pack pyjamas. I was sharing a double bed with another girl who was very much opposed to me just sleeping in a t shirt and knickers and it was in the days before leggings so I had to sleep in my jeans. For the whole trip. I can still feel the chafing now Sad

2018SoFarSoGreat · 30/07/2021 00:51

how could I forget this one? My baby!

Late for train, rushing down stairs through station with whole family lined up and crying (I was going very far away after that train journey) and tears were blinding me. The whistle blew and it started to very slowly go chug-a-chug. My brother hoisted my 6 year old on whilst dad was throwing pushchair and bags in. The guard hauled me on.

Bawling - my sister shouted "I've got your shoes on. AND I have your baby!" - My god, the scariest moment. That angel of a guard saved he day and the baby, but I was crying so hard I couldn't see what he looked like to thank him. That was the worst trip ever :(

SingingSands · 30/07/2021 01:17

DH forgot to put the children's coats and shoes in the car when we were leaving for the Lake District. It was early November and it snowed. Didn't discover until we arrived at our B&B. He had one job...

Yahtze · 30/07/2021 01:19

Kevin!

Champagneforeveryone · 30/07/2021 01:48

DS forgot his sleeping bag once on a Scout expedition. In true scouting style he zipped his coat and fleece together and survived the night in darkest Wales.

Never forgot it again though Grin

GiantHaystacks2021 · 30/07/2021 01:53

I know someone who made the 3 hour trip to the airport to realise she had forgotten her passport.
She's super careless anyway, so I'm not surprised. Missed her flight, as she had to make the 6 hours round trip to fetch it.

Another friend also forgot her passport and her dad had to tear up the motorway in his car to catch up with her and hand it over.
He was most unhappy.
She's also careless and she is a total consequence.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 30/07/2021 07:10

I forgot to pack any pants for DD2. Just skipped an entire drawer section somehow. The upside was that both DDs started doing their own packing after that Grin.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/07/2021 07:41

I forgot suncream and it cost £20 to buy some at the hotel.

violetbunny · 30/07/2021 07:50

To set my alarm.

I was flying to Sydney and when I woke up I realised there was only 10 mins until I needed to leave for the airport.

Fortunately I was already packed, but there was a mad scramble to get dressed and out the door. I normally take quite a while to get ready!

Richard Bacon told a story about his dad on his radio show once. His dad pretty important in his field, amd went abroad a few times a year to meetings and conferences. He was very scatterbrained too, not great at the practicalities of life, and Richard’s mum would take him to the airport. One day she wasn’t free to do this and Richard’s dad had to sort himself out to get there with his stuff by himself. He was feeling very pleased with himself, got to the airport in plenty of time, had his ticket, passport, currency, meeting papers, clean pants and so on. Got parked in his prebooked long stay space..Went to get this suitcase from the boot of the car……. and the dog jumped out!🤣
OldTinHat · 30/07/2021 08:07

Not me but my dad. I'm a worrier and as a teen we set off as a family for the airport to go to Greece. I kept badgering my dad - have you got the tickets, have you got the passports, have you got the currency (talking about 30ys ago!). He was so angry at me for nagging him! Got to the airport. My dad had forgotten his wallet and the currency! That was the day I perfected my smug face.
