What’s the worst thing you’ve forgotten to take on holiday?

There’s always something I forget! Our car is all packed for the off tomorrow but it feels like I’ve forgotten something.

Hmm..

Nappies.. arrived too late to get more, had to make do with a towel over night
A very large freezer bag full of food for a week.. left in the middle of the kitchen floor.
My ski jacket... I was wearing a light trench coat, had to go and buy a new jacket
Swim stuff.. kids had a swimming lesson before we left for a 9 hour drive to the coast, left 5 towels and 5 sets of swimmers in the tumble dryer.
A huge bag full of sleeping bags, roll mats, tent etc that was supposed to go on the roof of the van... forgot to actually put it on the roof.. luckily we turned around for that one.

We have also gone away only to come back to an unflushed toilet... that was grim.

There are more... but I will stop there. It's always a relief when we realise what it is we have forgotten as we develop a contingency plan. We are good at thinking on our feet, but it is an extra drain on resources.

At the airport flying to Portugal DH realised he had left his wallet at home. Thankfully I had the euros and I also had a debit and credit card. His EHIC health insurance card was in the wallet though - so glad he didn't become ill and therefore didn't need it.

Apparently it was my fault he had left it because I had made him take his summer lightweight jacket and hadn't told him to move the wallet or even moved it for him. Hmm

We have been on holiday with my dad a few times on 2 occasions he has had no clothes .First time he presumed all his clothes were in the same case as his wife's , they weren't 😂 second time she took his clothes out to put hers in then forgot to put his back in !

TheCrowening · 29/07/2021 23:09

Knickers. Now take enough pants to allow for pissing myself at least four times a day.

Correct passport for a child - had brought his sibling’s. Noticed the next day after we had been through the border with the wrong one & no one noticed. It was on the euro tunnel so passport less scrutinized maybe than in an airport.

My bag! Not once but two holidays in a row! ARGH! And the next trip which was just a fleeting 2 days for a v special occasion, I left my make up bag behind. 😢

PrettyLittleFlies · 29/07/2021 23:13

Also a ski trip where our jackets were left behind omg expensive holiday 🎿

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2021 23:13

Not me, but years ago my neighbours went on holiday and she rang me to ask me to go and find her contraceptives and post them on to her as she'd forgotten to pack them. I think I was more embarrassed than she was! The daft thing was she had rung on a Saturday afternoon so I couldn't post them out until Monday by which time the holiday was half over!

cantkeepawayforever · 29/07/2021 23:14

The instructions for how to get to the holiday cottage in France. And all the contact details for the cottage and its owner....

clairethewitch70 · 29/07/2021 23:15

Medication I can’t stop suddenly. Had to go back for it

Neolara · 29/07/2021 23:15

I went to Costa Rica with a relatively new boyfriend of 8 months and forgot to take any money or way of getting any money (my debit card didn't work). That was awkward.

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 29/07/2021 23:15

My ADHD meds to a family wedding in Italy.

THAT was a fun week.

Ifkip · 29/07/2021 23:16

Keys to the apartment in France. Had to spend the first 3 nights in a hotel while the apartment owner made arrangements to get another set of keys to us!

Oh, that reminds me. Once I left sleep medication behind so lay awake both nights, and once I forgot another med. I had gone to Australia. Amazingly I went to a pharmacy and explained my predicament and they gave me the drug I needed.

Not holiday but my first work trip at new company I was taking with a male colleague to somewhere very rural and I forgot all my bras and underwear. 5 day trip. 🤦‍♀️ I couldn't explain to him why we had to stop at a bigger supermarket near the airport rather than the small area we were traveling to!

loosingmymarbles · 29/07/2021 23:23

I never forget going it's always coming home

Once I left a really expensive pair of trainers. Time just gone an Apple Watch.

I'm a dick!

2018SoFarSoGreat · 29/07/2021 23:24

oh I have another.

Stopover at friend''s house in London, then off to Scotland gaily laden with my usual enormous suitcases. Just as the train takes off I see said friend gesticulating madly, but we gather speed and are off. I had left my laptop bag - with latop, with which I had to work. My bestest wonderful friend caught the night train behind mine, and arrived to save the day the next morning. What a hero he is! What a moron I am!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 29/07/2021 23:26

Shoes for children, we left in evening with them in PJ's to drive to caravan holiday and put them straight in bed. Had to go to shoe shop in slippers in the morning.

Years ago husband once forgot contact lenses (he has daily ones) can't see to drive without them I wasn't insured on his car and he'd also forgotten emergency glasses. We had to stop at opticians.

Getabloominmoveon · 29/07/2021 23:27

The key to the Thule box on top of our car.

All my 6 month old’s bottles which were still in the fridge at home

Kona84 · 29/07/2021 23:30

The tent on a camping holiday- drove from Yorkshire to Oban- took the ferry to Mull found a wild camp spot. Realised no tent.
Back on ferry to hotel in Oban. Cheap holiday became expensive.

Sparklfairy · 29/07/2021 23:32

My DM once forgot all her shoes, only had the trainers that she wore on the plane Grin

SlipperTripper · 29/07/2021 23:40

I've managed to take teen DSDs knickers instead of mine on overnight work trips a couple of times - the perils of accidentally matching Primark multipack purchases and a DH who is helpful when it comes to unloading the tumble dryer, but not very alert to sizing...

Very demoralising when you try to put a pair of size 8 pants on a size 16 body, and realise that you're going to have to get handy with the bodywash and the hairdryer on yesterday's pants 🙄

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 29/07/2021 23:42

The pushchair - DS was two and three-quarters so not a distance walker, and too heavy to carry. Forgot to put it in the taxi to the station.

Bra. I wasn’t wearing one when we went but it was more necessary for other outfits.
