Anyone know what I do? I've managed to lose my brand new iphone (not insured - weep) this afternoon. I am supposed to register it lost I think, but my landline not working - so don't know how to call.... it's on voicemail, so nobody answering obviously. I don't know what to do!!!

Have you got an iPad you can track it from?

Matilda1981 · 29/07/2021 17:43

Use ‘find my iPhone’ to try and locate it? Not much else I’d do! Didn’t know you were supposed to register them as lost!

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 17:44

Do you know where you lost it/might have lost it? Ask in case it's been handed in or if you think it's been stolen they may have CCTV.

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 17:45

Check to see if it's covered under your house insurance policy, some have phones/electricals cover.

honestogod · 29/07/2021 17:46

find my iphone just says all devices turned off - so that's not much good. Do I just start again and order a new one and SIM? Lost somewhere between restaurant and station in Farringdon in London :(

Cant believe I opted not to get insurance. It's only about three weeks old.

I would log into my iCloud and activate “find my phone”. If no joy with that, and you have a rough idea where you lost it, check with every shop or business where someone might have handed it in. Also check local FB pages for lost and found posts, and finally speak to your local police station to see if it’s been handed in there. And keep ringing it!

honestogod · 29/07/2021 17:47

Thanks @NuffSaidSam - will check

I thought I had installed find my iphone - but apparently not as it says device offline. I don't know whether to just give up on it and order a new one, or whether to try and find it. such a nightmare - birthday tomorrow so lots of people will think am ignoring them.

Ask along the route you walked incase it's been handed in. There are more honest people than you think.

honestogod · 29/07/2021 18:00

thing is I've got no idea what's along the route - I don't live there and am not there anymore - already left - I'm wondering if there is some kind of picture somewhere online of the shops along that way - but I doubt it

OP posts:
honestogod · 29/07/2021 18:00

think am going to have to give up for dead

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 18:02

Googlemaps Street view will show you all the shops/restaurants along the road.

honestogod · 29/07/2021 18:02

not even sure how you order a new one though - SIM code and all that

OP posts:
NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 18:02

Do you think it's lost or stolen?

honestogod · 29/07/2021 18:03

lost... I think it fell out of my bag....

OP posts:
NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 18:05

Well that's good, more chance that someone honest found it and handed it in.

NuffSaidSam · 29/07/2021 18:06

I would start with calling the tfl lost property if it could be at the station. They're very good in my experience.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/07/2021 18:06

retrace your steps?

honestogod · 29/07/2021 18:07

I've done a lost property thing at Farringdon station but think it must have been before that... can't find any pictures of local shops online so think is probably a done deal.

@NuffSaidSam

Do you think it's lost or stolen?
Phone your network provider. Is the phone on contract? If so, you will have to either pay for the lost one then get a new contract for a new one or continue with the monthly payments and pay upfront for a new one.
AbsolutelyPatsy · 29/07/2021 18:08

someone could well have handed it in

HilaryBriss · 29/07/2021 18:10

You will need to report it as lost otherwise someone could rack up a big bill which you will have to pay for.

Google streetview will show all the local shops, have you actually looked on that?

ZealAndArdour · 29/07/2021 18:16

Why would it be switched off? Did you have low battery when you lost it? Has it died?

If you had a full battery and it’s now switched off then that would suggest it’s either in a place with no signal or someone has found it and switched it off.

Most honest decent people who found a phone and wanted to return it to its owner wouldn’t switch it off as they’d want to keep it on in case anyone called it.
