Help, HMRC are going to put out a warrant for me!

I've just had a phone call from HMRC telling me there has been tax fraud on my account, and I either press 1 to speak to them or if I hang up a warrant will be issued Shock

So... I have about 5 minutes to pack a suitcase and run away! What do I pack? Wink

Seriously, I am aware it was a scam Smile

The phone number was: +44 1223 512843

On my iPhone it said it was from Cambridge.

Funny that, the National Crime Agency phoned me today to tell me my national insurance number has been shut down and its illegal for me to work now.

I have had a few of these. One was an actual person who seemed to get annoyed when I said I had a thing for men in uniform and could they make sure he was good looking!!! They said they would be at my door with a warrant for my arrest in ten minutes if I didn't press 1. I said that was unfortunate as I was was 150 miles away and wouldn't be pressing 1.I asked them to describe the policeman in detail and they hung up on me! My husband and Mum found it entertaining and it kept them away from others for a while. I blocked the number of course!

I had something similar and took a great interest in where exactly they were as they were able to get to me so quickly, but strangely the caller couldn't tell me. I said I'd press 1 when I could see them coming up the drive and suggested we wait together to see if they met their 10 minute target, but the caller didn't seem to want to do that, can't think why.

I'd happily empty my bank account to help you all but I got a text from my bank telling me that my account has been frozen due to some irregularities and all I need do is click on the handy link provided and it will all be sorted.

Then again, it might take some sorting out as the link had the name of a bank different to the one that I bank with.

I once spent a good half hour explaining the detail of GDPR when some dolt tried to explain it to me. I had to do all the training for work and implement all the various strategies. Plus I’d worked in banking and finance for a while then and knew the various Codes. He seemed keen to get off the phone...
