Did anything go wrong on your wedding day?

I'm getting married in the morning Gin and, like you do, I'm having a pre-wedding "what might go wrong" thoughts.

So just to make me EVEN MORE nervous, did anything go wrong at your wedding, or anyone else's wedding that you attended? I have never been to a wrdding with any fuck ups (that I know of!), so I'm hoping mine won't be the first one I experience Grin

I got very very very drunk

RevolvingPivot · 27/07/2021 22:14

Loads went wrong. Mums husband also accused her of looking at my husbands GAY brother. They left before my reception started. I'll never forget that.

@EKGEMS

My baker changed my piped flowers we ordered for plastic artificial flowers. My three month old niece cried while her paternal GM held her and did nothing. It was a child free wedding and a free nursery was available.
I suspect this newborn baby wanted their mother?
MuslinsRLife · 27/07/2021 22:34

My makeup artist cancelled, I was so, so pissed off. She also wanted to do my hair (I had my regular hairdresser though, so glad I didn’t agree to use her)

omgthepain · 27/07/2021 22:37

My friend got married and she just had a buffet in the day at a cricket club and then a hog roast at night.

We were called up table by table to get the food and we were sat fairly near the front where the food was and so went up and got our buffet food, nobody was being greedy and I think people assumed that it would be topped up but they got about 2/3rds thru and the grooms Mum said to the lady from the cricket club "please can you top the food up" then her manager came back and said it was all out they'd catered for 80 and it wasn't their fault people took too much.
They'd budgeted on 2 tiny triangle sandwiches each, 1 sausage roll
And 1 bit of 4-5 other things and crisps which wouldn't have been enough to feed children.

Brides brother who worked in the local pizza place saved the day and had tonnes of pizza and trays of chips delivered and the venue were non too pleased

The HOG roast was an external company and it was fab but my friend refused to pay the club for the crappy buffet it was embarrassing

My hairdresser didn't show up! Had to do my own hair with 45 mins to go which would be fine if I was any good at doing hair. Came back from wedding to a barrage of messages saying she'd got the date mixed up and thought it was the following day. Looked alright in pics but was v stressful!

Scarby9 · 27/07/2021 22:40

Not my wedding, but one I was at

The bride's uncle died. As she reached the front of the church, and everyone else sat down, he gave a sort of shout/ gurgle noise and collapsed in the aisle.
He was carried out and they called an ambulance and the wedding went ahead.

The bride and groom were told he had gone to hospital for tests as a precaution but in reality he died in the church.

They didn't find out until they got back from honeymoon.

SimonJT · 27/07/2021 22:42

My husband had an argument with his parents a few days before so they didn’t attend, but they sent his little brother (8) along so they didn’t have to look after him.

I just couldn’t speak, I barely said my vows and the registrar trying to help just made it worse.

My low glucose alarm went off during the ceremony, I didn’t have any food so the venue where we got married brought me some sachets of sugar.

We had a free bar up to a certain limit, the staff on the day weren’t informed of the limit, so the bar bill was almost twice as much as our limit, luckily we had it in writing so we only paid our agreed amount. There were only fifteen people (two of those were children) and yet 52 espresso martinis were drank!

Whoopsmahoot · 27/07/2021 22:43

Our band went to the wrong hotel and set up there. Another band turned up and they realised their mistake and arrived very late

Wineat5isfine · 27/07/2021 22:46

@TheChild - wishing you a wonderful wedding day! Hope it is everything that you ever dreamed of 💜

We had a few blips at our wedding.

My dad forgot his shoes…a relative had to drive a 30 mile round trip to pick them up and managed to do this in a ridiculous time. How he didn’t get a speeding ticket is beyond me.

Usher stepped on the back of my dress, just as I was walking down the aisle. Tugged me backwards and left a nice big muddy footprint on my dress.

2 work colleagues didn’t show up - I later found out this was in protest to someone else at work not being invited. (Someone I didn’t get on with - and I wasn’t invited to her wedding 3 months prior, so not sure what the issue was?) With per head WB costs of £120 each, this was disappointing. But, the cocktail bar chaps enjoyed the food instead!

Vegan guest kept coming up to me (at the head table) asking where his food was. I told him to ask the waiters…3 times he came up to me! I hadn’t had my food either at this point. 🤣

MIL took all the champagne and red wine from the top table and his it under her table. We found it - eventually.

BM got absolutely hammered and didn’t present mums with the bouquets or announce the evening buffet. Never did get to taste any of it as the guests just piled in and we hadn’t noticed. Everyone said it was delicious though, so we were glad about that.

DJ kept playing madness songs - the one band I asked him not play.

Group of DH friends kept using “the brides powder room” as a place to snort cocaine. One even got a dealer to deliver to my venue 😡

I forgot to bring a bra to wear the next day (as mine had been stitched into my dress).

But, with all of the above, it was the most amazing day and we got to spend it with all of the people that we loved the most 💜

It just went far too quickly!

Mammyloveswine · 27/07/2021 22:46

I did have a few things go wrong ., vintage car driver caught shingles.. too late so ended up with the only alternative a modern Mercedes.

Waxed my tache for the first time..48 hours before my wedding.. had a mega reaction,,calmed down with sudacrem thank god!

My best friend (bridesmaid and supposed to be giving a reading) MISSED the ceremony as got stuck in traffic.. I was RAGING whilst saying my vows! Should've been full of love for DH.. needless to say we are no longer friends!

Congratulations op I hope you have a wonderful day!!

slug · 27/07/2021 22:47

The cabs we booked failed to turn up. DH and his best man walked to the venue. Very fast. So fast that the best man split his trousers trying to keep up with DH.

Meanwhile me, my bridesmaid, her DH and the best man's wife all took the bus to the venue.

pixiedust21 · 27/07/2021 22:48

Just before the evening reception started (after cutting the cake and doing the first dance, just before the party bit started) my husband lost all the colour in his face and rushed off.

Spent the rest of the night upstairs, violently ill (having caught norovirus from family who’d flown over from the States and picked something up on the plane possibly - as they all came down with it the next day, nobody else)

I danced with friends and tried to talk to all our guests alone for the rest of the night before creeping back to our room to find him collapsed and asleep on the bed - he was really poorly for about 3/4 days after that.

Nsky · 27/07/2021 22:50

Mine was fine, everything to plan.
My son’s different, nephew forgot shoes and tie, luckily charity shop had tie, show shop has some cheap.
I bought both.
My brother ( mother had bought dress, and then died before) forgot my evening dress, bought an outfit in charity shop, missing handbag to go with main handbag.
Luckily my son was unaware

Emmelina · 27/07/2021 22:52

The church is city centre. A random animal rights protest popped up and roads got shut off. Had to be escorted on foot from around the corner instead of my grand entrance in my dad’s 70’s VW camper 😂 managed to leave in it, thankfully :)

BiBabbles · 27/07/2021 23:05

Wishing you a lovely day TheChild

Only think I view as going wrong was my shoes started to really hurt my feet (which had never happened in those shoes before, but I guess I'd never walked/stood in them that much). I always say on threads about prioritizing wedding expenses: comfortable shoes and photography.

Also, last minute I had reword my vows as the registrar didn't like I'd use the word faith. I'd meant faith in each other, but she had me change it which was a bit awkward.

Not really a going wrong, but an awkward in the moment: Before the wedding, we went into a bookstore and somehow he lost track of me and had a blind moment of panic thinking I'd done a runner!

And on our way back home, I got hit on by a random drunk man. While still in our wedding clothes and my new husband standing right next to me. It was awkward at the moment though funny in hindsight trying to explain to him that we'd just married, took a few tries to get it, but he sweetly congratulated us and wandered off.

AustinPowerful · 27/07/2021 23:11

DS2 got chickenpox the week before the wedding so had to isolate at home. This meant the close family members that were due to be staying with us before the wedding day had to find hotels at short notice.

And DS2 has a face full of horrible crusty spots in all the wedding photos 🤦🏻‍♀️

TheChild · 27/07/2021 23:14

@tbtf

"The Beast From the East" ... no, not the MIL... It snowed, guests couldn't get there safely, the registrar phoned the day before and asked if we were still going ahead given the weather. We did, our Wedding Train broke down, and we were late for our own reception.
Our daughter was born during Beast of the North East, I remember being so upset that thw hospital said they. may not allow us to leave due to the weather, I begged my stepdad to come pick us up and take us home as I just wanted to get home to be with elder DD 😁 I'm hoping after all the stress and the problems you still had an amazing day?

Stonerosie67 · 27/07/2021 23:17

My in-laws....they did their utmost to ruin things, actually started at the engagement party when my horrendously spoilt sil cried and tantrummed because we were getting married and she wasn't!
They cleared off after the reception without telling anyone, ignored all of my family including me at the evening do, all cleared off from that too, sil threw another tantrum, fil was really rude about me under his breath during the best mans speech which, unluckily for him, was picked up clear as day on the video, and mil's outfit...omg! Nice enough suit which she then shortened herself, accompanied by black accessories including a black veil!!!
Made themselves look utterly ridiculous!!
Still makes us laugh though, and despite their best efforts, we're still incredibly happily married 30 years later....👍👍

bluechameleon · 27/07/2021 23:24

Hotel booking for us on the wedding night had got lost so we ended up in the same hotel as all DH's family. I forgot to put my veil on. Bad traffic meant bridesmaids were late and a couple of family members missed it entirely. Absolutely torrential rain most of the day. But we had a lovely day, none of that mattered.

OrlandointheWilderness · 27/07/2021 23:26

Aw congratulations for tomorrow and have a wonderful day!!

Excitedforxmas · 27/07/2021 23:29

The zip of my dress broke the night before. The vicar turned up late for the rehearsal

ImAnOmelette · 27/07/2021 23:38

I went to a wedding where the light on the cake made it warm up and collapse mid-meal.

We got married overseas.

Malaria tabs sent me loopy and I wanted to call off the wedding. I stopped taking them.

The tour operator was meant to translate our vows. The flights were all delayed and therefore so was she. It was touch and go if she'd get back in time (had to marry in daylight hours).

Wrong music to enter to - wrong disc of CD used.

I had a really painful spot on my bum - my DH's first husbandly task was to pop it!

My DDad made me cry (nice words) just before I walked in. DH was worried I was upset!

Shouldn't have worn my contacts - had an awful headache.

Good luck!! Daffodil

IsobelEd · 27/07/2021 23:45

My hair was awful; the hairdresser I had trialled with was ill so I had to have someone else at the salon to cover. I hated it, as soon as I got home I had to get back in the shower to wash it all out and redo it myself!
