Did anything go wrong on your wedding day?

I'm getting married in the morning Gin and, like you do, I'm having a pre-wedding "what might go wrong" thoughts.

So just to make me EVEN MORE nervous, did anything go wrong at your wedding, or anyone else's wedding that you attended? I have never been to a wrdding with any fuck ups (that I know of!), so I'm hoping mine won't be the first one I experience Grin

@BeingATwatItsABingThing

Oh, and i went to a very very elegant wedding where all the couples were separated and seated on different tables.

What?! That’s madness. I put people on tables with people they knew already as much as possible because it’s a wedding not an ice breaker. My friend did the opposite and split people up and it was awkward and a really long wedding breakfast.

I know! I hated it. I am quite socially shy and like having DH at least on the same table.

I got married last week and only minor things went 'wrong'. Our evening food truck went to the wrong venue and ended up being over an hour late with the wrong food selection so that a pain to be dealing with on the night. And the taxi driver who took me to the ceremony refused to drive me to the entrance because it would make him late for the next job. But these things won't be remembered by anyone but me!

One of the best men (thankfully there were two) got ill and couldn't come.

I married during the petrol strikes. Nobody could get there, I had no flowers and the photographer let me down so I ended up with the most well meaning but hopeless retired photographer who superimposed my face onto a brandy glass as the highlight of the pimptastic padded luxe vinyl album (complete with massive ribboned bow). The next day I was stuck on the M4 overnight trying to get home. So as a treat the next year we went to France to celebrate our first anniversary. That coincided with 9/11 and we were advised by the hotel to “go home” as they shut up shop in case of terrorist attacks.

I married my ex-husband.

My hairdresser arrived 45 minutes late at her salon to do my hair. Luckily, she could work fast and my hair still looked amazing.

Completely underestimated how long it would take to get me into my wedding dress. It was a very dramatic, Ian Stuart dress with 2 sets of underskirts, a full train and a fully laced corset! My 2 BMs were a bit fingers and thumbs, so we had to call in reinforcements e.g. my Mum's best friend who had been a ballerina and knew a thing or two about corsets. Still arrived 20 minutes late to the ceremony though.

My eldest brother and SIL had a huge row en route to our wedding, and spent all day passively aggressively refusing to parent my little nephews. This meant they ran amok and played (loudly) with their electronic toys during the ceremony.

DH's (soon to be SIL) had a huge row with his brother, so has a face like a bulldog sucking a wasp on all the photos. Then went on to spend a goodly part of the evening crying outside in the grounds.

None of it mattered though, because it was a fantastic day x

Hired a very sweet makeup artist who completely did her own thing..I looked shocking.Took it all off and did it myself 20 mins before walking down the aisle because I don't think anyone would have recognised me (think full on thick black liquid eyeliner, bright red cheeks and scarlet lips..)

A frog climbed up my dress in the middle.of my vows, the best man retrieved it very subtly.

Delightfully divorced now,but still enjoyed the day and found these moments really funny.

MrsDThomas · 28/07/2021 17:07

Congratulations!

Nothing went wrong as i had no guests. Those are the best ones.

FogHornInTheAttic · 28/07/2021 17:21

Where on earth was your ceremony that it involved frogs!?!?

I know churches can be damp, but that's something else.

We got married in 1992 and the venue lent us a video camera. This thing was huge and you carried it on your shoulder. So we gave it to my brother to use.

He charged the battery. Took loads of footage of me getting ready and leaving the house. Got to registery office, went to switch it on, battery was dead!! Hilarious!!

Then my awkward sisters in law didn't like our choice of photographer (it was last minute replacement because their parents said they knew someone who then couldn't make it). So they spent all day, with dark reactolight glasses and pretty dresses, and frowns on because they didn't want to listen to the photographer. They were about 18 then. Nearly 30 years later and they are just as bad!

TooGood2BeFalse · 29/07/2021 07:03

@Zarene I got married in Cyprus in a vineyard

Vallmo47 · 29/07/2021 07:40

So, OP, how was YOUR wedding day? Grin

kin432 · 29/07/2021 08:01

My husband and I joked around in our rehearsal at the church and should have paid more attention. As a result, we ended up standing far too far apart during our vows (to the amusement of our guests). I don't know why either of us didn't take a couple of steps sideways but we remained glued to either side of the gulf for the entire ceremony.

Haven't had a chance to read through the full thread, but just to provide an update-we had the most amazing day! I spilt prosecco down my dress (twice!) but aside from that it was just bloody perfect! Wish I could do it all over again 😁
