Zombie Apocalypse- where do you head?

HungryHippo11 · 27/07/2021 07:03

Imagine its a zombie apocalypse a la The Walking Dead.
Where would you go? Hole up at home, travel somewhere busy where there might be more supplies, go somewhere rural, steal a boat?

What skills do you have to survive/hide/fight back?

Lighthearted please!

Embrace it, literally… shambling about, looking for food with no other concerns sounds like an okay sort of life/death.

BlueLobelia · 27/07/2021 07:20

I never got past my initial tactic of throwing my cat at them and then running.

BlueCat adores fights and she would win. (She has a habit of leaving her teeth behind in other people's dogs ears. )

HungryHippo11 · 27/07/2021 07:27

I thought I would try and make it 8 or so miles to my grandparents house where they have solar panels, a polytunnel and random farm machinery which could come in handy for farming and/or mowing down zombies.
Also I guess we could eat the horses if it came to it.

Sounds like a plan Grin

I would head somewhere rural, ideally can grow on food and a good water supply.

On the way try and raid a supermarket for tin foods etc and fire making materials. Then raid a chemist for first aid bits and antibiotics- I have thought about this before BlushGrin

*own

BlueLobelia · 27/07/2021 07:35

I think I'd definitely go rural. Frightened people in big cities seem like it will not end well.

Ronsmood · 27/07/2021 07:36

If Zombie films have taught us anything it’s get out of urban areas and keep moving. With that in mind I’d head north, to rural Scotland, in a pick up truck armed with chainsaws.

Whinginadeville · 27/07/2021 07:37

I'd throw half my furniture on the lawn break down my front door so it looks ransacked then hole up in the back of the house eating all the crisps and chocolate I usually ration. I don't think my chihuahuas will be much help but I shall try and take out the wood pigeons who decimate my fruit bushes so I'm fairly confident of survival if we go unnoticed.

Shelddd · 27/07/2021 07:37

Probably stop at supermarket and get some toilet paper before it's gone.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 27/07/2021 07:37

Far away from other survivors. They're more dangerous than the zombies.

Hoohaahoo · 27/07/2021 07:38

I’d join team zombie.
I don’t think I could cope with the constant stress of trying to survive.

ifherbumwereabungalow · 27/07/2021 07:38

Me and DH had this discussion when we lived in a different area. I was all for going to a castle with lots of weaponry on the walls and a drawbridge he, rather more sensibly, was in favour of the nearby military academy. We live by the coast now so I think I would try and get on a boat!

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 27/07/2021 07:39

Are they proper zombies or the cheating ones that can run?

Fast zombies are against the rules imo. When you're dead and looking for innards, you shuffle. Anything else is cheating.

GoodVibesHere · 27/07/2021 07:40

I would let a zombie bite me and become one of them. I'd rather join them

YoungWerther · 27/07/2021 07:40

Bear in mind that we rural dwellers will fight off townies AND zombies Grin

RavenclawsRoar · 27/07/2021 07:41

I always thought- head to the coast because then a natural barrier exists in the sea. Until I read World War Z where the zombies can walk the ocean bed and move through water! So that's scuppered that plan. Depends what the weaknesses of the zombies are! If disaster films /shows have taught me anything it's that people immediately forget how to drive in a crisis and have the most spectacular crashes, so I'd avoid road travel and move on foot.

I wholeheartedly agree because I know I could win with my wits and instinct but my cardio ability would have me munching brains within 10 minutes.

I live by a 75km long lake. I'd head there and jump in a boat.

Cazzovuoi · 27/07/2021 07:44

@RavenclawsRoar World War Z zombies are not allowed in this scenario. As said above, they're cheating.

SD1978 · 27/07/2021 07:55

Pharmacy first, then a DIY store for sharp and pointy head splattering objects. Then find somewhere to hole up until the initial munchfest is over.

flingingmelon · 27/07/2021 08:02

My uni mates and I have been discussing this all Covid. One inherited a little cottage in the middle of nowhere (how it all started).

So we go there. One mate is green fingered so she's in charge of food. Friend of DS is impossibly posh and has guns so I'm in charge of getting weaponry from there.

(Friend and his family are ridiculously nice so I'm pretty sure they'll be inviting the zombies in for drinks and won't ever get close to actually needing the guns 😳)

Fourth friend could start a party in an empty room so she's in charge of morale.

Funnily enough husbands don't seem to figure in this plan Grin

Iseeyoulookingatme · 27/07/2021 08:13

I'd hide in my loft, everyone appears to be going to the countryside so I'll be fine. I'll have to raid the neighbours houses for food if I need any as they will have probably gone with you all to find somewhere else to hide.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/07/2021 09:36

I am Runner #5 of Able Township and have been surviving on my long run for about 6 years. Grin

Not sure I'd want to survive a real one though!

Chikapu · 27/07/2021 09:39

Straight into the zombie hoard, what's the point of trying to survive in such a shitty world?

HungryHippo11 · 27/07/2021 09:42

I thought St Michael's Mount in Cornwall would be a pretty good place. Its got walls all around, when the tide is out you can walk to it but the zombies walk slowly and there's only one entrance, so you could probably pick them off. And some would be washed away when the tide came in. Nice views too!
