What do you get from the Chinese takeaway?

We're getting Chinese food tonight and I've realised we always get the same thing. So, what else can I get?

Chinese order:
Chicken and Sweetcorn soup (me)
Smoked shredded chicken (DP)
Crispy duck with pancakes
Chicken in black bean sauce
Beef with mushrooms
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Special fried rice
Chicken chow mean or Singapore rice noodles
Sometimes either crispy chilli beef or chicken in yellow bean sauce and sometimes chicken satay skewers or dumplings if we want leftovers for lunch.

What's your order?

Kung pao chicken
Chicken in yellow bean sauce
Bean curd and aubergine in black bean sauce
Egg fried rice
Hot and sour soup

If the kids are eating with us, then either sweet and sour chicken or chicken chop suey too, with extra egg fried rice.

And you don’t have leftovers otherwise with your original order!

Crispy chilli beef
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Pork rice
Salt and chilli ribs
Pork chow mein
Salt and chilli chips

Just a boring chicken chow mein Grin maybe a fortune cookie.

Why on Earth are people commenting on how many days that would last when they have no idea of the portion sizes where the OP lives?

There are two nice places in our village - one is more expensive and does huge portions, the other is much cheaper and 3 of their “mains” are a nice amount for 2 adults, but doesn’t leave anything for lunch.

We tend to order seasame toast, spring rolls and wings for starters.

Then depends which takeaway and who is home. Always chicken balls with gravy and satay sauce rather than sweet and sour and a chicken chow mein. Then usually duck and mushroom or duck in plum sauce and a curry of some sort for DS2. Usually with chips. Only DS2 is a fan of rice so he’ll have micro rice (or “hoose rice” as it’s called here) instead of buying it.

If we go to the smaller portion place then we’ll get banana fritters as they make amazing ones.

Because I have to err on the healthier lower fat side

*Hot and sour soup
*Boiled rice
*chicken in oyster sauce
*beef in black bean sauce

If I want to be naughty

*Chilli&salt chips (If you've never had these your missing out)
*chicken fried rice Singapore style;this is a dish unique to one of the local Chinese's and it's amazing.

Some of your local takeaways sound amazing.

Yes it's just me and DP- we like lots of different bits, like tapas. There's plenty leftover for the next day. And DP trains so has a huge appetite! The last paragraph is only sometimes though and only one of those IYSWIM.

I've never thought of it as a huge amount 😳

I like to have different dishes too, the takeaway I use does half portions if you ask, and then I eat it over two days.

DrCoconut · 26/07/2021 00:30

Nothing any more 😭. They all contain gluten. It was my favourite takeaway too. Used to get sesame prawn toast, chicken balls for DC, veg or prawns with cashew nuts or a curry, chips and rice. Our local one does half rice half chips on a tray.

Namenic · 26/07/2021 00:36

Beef hor fun
Prawn chow mein
Pan fried pork in garlic and chilli
Deep fried squid with garlic and chilli

Speak to some local places and they can advise you on gluten free options if they have them.

You can ask for things to not have soy sauce added and have it with boiled rice. Most things I think should be ok then. You can ask for no MSG too if that's an issue.

I used to work for a Chinese restaurant/takeaway and we had a lot of people with shellfish (and some other) allergies and the chefs were so careful when they were told about that sort of thing.

Throwthecam · 26/07/2021 00:55

Salt and pepper chips! They are delicious

caringcarer · 26/07/2021 01:02

BBQ chicken wi.gs and chips.

NotMyCat · 26/07/2021 01:15

Always prawn toast and seaweed
Then I can never decide and end up going for my usual chicken with spring onion and ginger with egg fried rice
