Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

The USA. Glad I went there once with a friend, enjoyed lots of interesting experiences, met some friendly people and gained some funny stories to tell. Fascinated by the unreal atmosphere of Las Vegas, which seemed like a long stretch of fake building-fronts, as in a movie, in front of an alien desert landscape.

But never had the urge to go back.

MissyB1 · 22/07/2021 19:01

New York. Did all the sights, saw a Broadway show etc.. But to be honest I found myself thinking London is so much better!

SecretWitch · 22/07/2021 19:02

Whomever said Yellowstone should go back in September. The tourists are gone and the scenery is spectacular. My brother is a former YNP Ranger. He and his wife were married at Lake Hotel at the end of September. I’ve never been anywhere as beautiful.

FangsForTheMemory · 22/07/2021 19:02

@felulageller Go back to Paris and go to the parc des Buttes Chaumont. It's a bit out of the way but it's my favourite park in one of my favourite cities. Very lovely and a nice restaurant there too.

Washinglinewench29 · 22/07/2021 19:02

Belfast, had only been in the city 10 minutes and was nearly knocked down in a supermarket by a shop lifter making a getaway.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/07/2021 19:02

As a family, we struggled with Dublin. We arrived at 7am off the boat and needed to kill time for about 7 hours until we could go to the campsite. We did a tour bus, but struggled to find anything else to do in the city centre that wasn't out of the way and a full day out like the zoo.
I now know why DH wasn't arsed about going in the 20 years we've been together and have always hit the M50 and shot through.

Cork always has a great reputation, but I think staying with teatotal relatives has always deprived me of experiencing the full craic. And visiting by day with a shop-phobic DH also does not help.

The further west you go, the better. Beautiful coastal scenery and cosy pubs are good things.*
I also liked Belfast and the DCs would be old enough for the Titanic experience now.

@monoxide

I dislike Birmingham for the same reason.

There seemed to be someone sat under every cash machine asking for money.

Made me feel really uncomfortable

habibihabibi · 22/07/2021 19:05

Bali -
Such a long way to go and swim in a sea full of rubbish, beaches strewn with crap and so many selfie obsessed people. I bet it was lovely 30 years ago.

SummaLuvin · 22/07/2021 19:05

The amount of these where the reason they didn’t like a place is basically “I had to see poor people” is pretty damn depressing

Greeceplease · 22/07/2021 19:05

With Oxford you have to go to the right parts. Basically the gown parts rather than town parts. Then it's beautiful

babbaloushka · 22/07/2021 19:05

@Seesawmummadaw I get this! My God I thought I was just strange, I think it's the bright lights, the music and the smell. I really can't stay longer than a couple of minutes, it really starts to affect me!

LadyHofH · 22/07/2021 19:06

Love this. I was once planning to start a website called "shit days out with the children". This idea followed a trip to Mother Shipton's Cave in Knaresborough.

Greeceplease · 22/07/2021 19:07

@Mixmeup

Brighton.

What a shithole. So dirty. Litter everywhere. Homeless people everywhere. Aggressive begging. The boho ‘atmosphere’ is comprised of a string of tacky shops selling overpriced tat and ‘crystals’. Locals are not actually hippies but rich Londoners with pretentions.

And the beach is a huge crowded heap of uncomfortable stones interspersed with litter, drug paraphernalia and the stench of weed.

Realllly not a fan.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Movinghouseatlast · 22/07/2021 19:10

New York. I just didn't get it. Spent a day in Central Park. It's just a park, Hyde Park is much nicer. It is so noisy and urban and crowded and it all kind of looks the same.

London, as someone else said, is so much better.

ArabellaScott · 22/07/2021 19:12

Yes, I found Brighton surprisingly unpleasant. Was expecting somewhere scintillating and alive. It was sordid and seedy and dull, so many homeless people and so much litter. Although I liked the gardens and the mad palace thing. The beach is weird.

ContadoraExplorer · 22/07/2021 19:12

Mauritius. It was part of our honeymoon and to be honest, it was the worst part. Nothing massively wrong per se but just wouldn't go back. A colleague I met after did a similar trip and said the same.

I wouldn't be fussed about Vegas again either. The smoke in the casinos really put me off, clothes were stinking after and we're just not used to that here now.

MaryBoBary · 22/07/2021 19:12

Hong Kong. I don't like busy places at the best of times. It was ridiculous, everything rushed and lots of people spitting on the floor round your feet. I didn't enjoy it but I'll certainly never forget it and am glad I've had the experience.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 22/07/2021 19:13

What, you find it edifying to see homeless people? I find it heartbreaking and depressing, myself.
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 22/07/2021 19:14

Centre Parcs. Couldn't wait to go home. Hated it. Overpriced activities at regimented times for half an hour (if you were lucky). Damp, cramped accommodation with no room for food in fridge. I could go on. Worst holiday I've ever had. Have no idea why people go.

Tombero · 22/07/2021 19:15

Morocco - beautiful place, but the hassle from men and the campylobacter put me off a return visit.

Movinghouseatlast · 22/07/2021 19:15

And I agree about Singapore. Dullsville.

spongedog · 22/07/2021 19:15

New Zealand. No thanks. Whereas I cannot wait to see more of Australia.

hellcatspangle · 22/07/2021 19:15

Haha, I think that could actually take off!

Linnette49 · 22/07/2021 19:15

India. Loved seeing the heritage sites etc but the poverty was awful. Goa beaches fantastic but again poverty everywhere.
