Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Jedburgh.

The journey there by motorbike took me through some of the most stunningly beautiful scenery along the A68 from Corbridge, but when I got there everything was closed - bar a rather good cafe.
It seemed that I had picked the towns festival day which was being celebrated in the local park.

Fair enough. had a great run back, and decided to go back another day.So I did, 2 years later.
Practically the few shops I'd seen the 1st time but couldn't visit had now closed down......the same cafe was still open though, and the food was just as good!

Also visited the house where Mary queen of Scots was held captive - beautiful bit so sad.

Such a shame, as the buildings are beautiful - but now in an eerie, ghost-town kind of way.

@Comedycook

Oh agree, Paphos was disappointing. Not horrible, just a bit meh
Agree, horrible atmosphere.
irresistibleoverwhelm · 22/07/2021 17:43

I love Italy, but I probably wouldn't ever rush back to Siena. Or Florence tbh - I had a lovely time youth hostelling there age 19, but I felt like I saw the best of the city in a few days, and I wouldn't particularly rush to go back -- unlike lots of places in Italy.

Conversely, I could go to Paris, Berlin, New York, over and over again and never get bored.

tommyhoundmum · 22/07/2021 17:43

Any airport anywhere

Longdistance · 22/07/2021 17:44

I’d have a long list of places I wouldn’t go back to, but we always gravitate back to Norfolk for a UK holiday.
We went to Mallorca, but wouldn’t go back. Cuba, Dominican Republic, St Lucia, Barbados.
There’s so much of the world to explore. We like to stick a pin in the map.

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 22/07/2021 17:45

Daytona Beach. Not hideous but far from special.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/07/2021 17:46

Marseille is the one place I’d never go back to. We felt unsafe even in the taxi queue at the train station - the taxi drivers gave off a really nasty vibe

It was effectively sold to the Corsican mafia in WWII, since when they've never left - and it shows

Comedycook · 22/07/2021 17:47

I really dislike the South of France and Paris...love the North though!

supersop60 · 22/07/2021 17:49

@Tay1980

Bath, thought it would be beautiful but Harrogate (10 minutes up the road) is far nicer 🤷🏼‍♀️
Bath is in Somerset. Harrogate is in Yorkshire. Are you a time traveller? PS - I like them both
DappledThings · 22/07/2021 17:49

I never understand the hate for Malta. We had a brilliant time there. There was so much to see and the bus system made it so easy to get round. Beautiful architecture, museums covering so many different periods of history, hundreds of nice cafés, really friendly people, fascinating pre-historic sites.

We came home and have recommended it to loads of people.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/07/2021 17:50

Comedycook Try Montpellier instead of the more usual fleshpots further east - stunning places to see, much better beaches and fantastic restaurants and people

Vastly cheaper too!!

Travielkapelka · 22/07/2021 17:51

Malta which really does have few redeeming features
Orlando - didn’t enjoy Disney at all but Florida as a state has some wonderful parts

Places I do like which people have mentioned as worst places include Barcelona. New York, turkey and lanzarote

bananaJamas · 22/07/2021 17:51

@roses2

Cuba - beautiful but very ppor, got food poisoning and food and hotel quality (5 Sandals) more like 3 UK. We paid £1k each!
Wow

Cuba was the most amazing country! Not Varadero through. That's the opposite of the rest of the country.

Elderflower14 · 22/07/2021 17:52

Has anyone been to Porto Santo recently. My late DH took me there for our honeymoon in 1993. One hotel, one supermarket, a few blocks of holiday lets. We missed the flight from Madeira and had to sit in Funchal Airport most of the day...

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/07/2021 17:53

Poole. Awful place. Would never go back.

Bridgespot · 22/07/2021 17:54

Cyprus. I hated all the mafia-money-laundering shiny-glass-box buildings and the ex-pat enclaves with their full English breakfasts.

One thing I've learned over the years (most recently in Morocco) is that I really, really hate bargaining and haggling, and I hate being harassed and wheedled. Unfortunately this seems to eliminate a huge swath of the earth's surface...

I've loved pretty much every big city I've ever lived in or visited - there's always something to discover, and I'll visit even the most boring museum - and I love countryside, the remoter the better. The places I've found boring or disappointing tend to be in-between places, small or mid-sized towns. (Of course I've loved some small and mid-sized towns too.)

Oh, and for everyone who has disliked Amsterdam: you can't imagine how happy Amsterdammers have been during Covid to have their city to themselves again. 19 million tourists in 2019 for a city with fewer than a million inhabitants. The city passed some serious laws that year to try to limit the tourist tidal wave, and then the pandemic did the rest Smile

SallyCinnamon3009 · 22/07/2021 17:54

LA - glad I've been wouldn't bother going back though

ilkley Moor - creepy AF

Tunisia although it may just have been the hotel but just wasn't impressed

VariantL1130 · 22/07/2021 17:57

John O Groats. Glad I went there so I can say I've been, but it really is the arse end of nowhere.

FuglyHouse · 22/07/2021 17:58

@Equimum

Niagara Falls - the Falls themselves are beautiful, but the town is like a bad 1980s Blackpool. We couldn’t wait to leave.
Absolutely. I couldn't believe that the Canadians thought it was a good idea to plonk a load of huge ugly hotels right next to the Falls. I'm glad we went, but I never want to go back.

All I can say is I was surprised at the lack of any green, trees or grass

Been 3 times, but barely remember the first two visits

The main park (260 acres) is about 1.5 miles back from the sea front and is really nice; various smaller parks dotted around the town and tree-lined streets in some areas. These areas probably do tend to get missed because they're not that close to the sea front.
sohypnotic · 22/07/2021 17:59

@Soubriquet

Those saying Las Vegas and New Orleans can you say why.

They are two places I would love to visit. I know everyone’s opinions would be different but it would be interesting to know why you wouldn’t go back

Ignore them!

I love Las Vegas - been 3 times including honeymoon, and did virtually no gambling. Great shows, food, shopping and love wandering round the crazy hotels.

Also loved New Orleans - the whole vibe of French town is fab, as long as you avoid Bourbon St! But then I love all the spooky vampire stuff haha.

tealappeal · 22/07/2021 18:02

I wouldn't go back to anywhere I have fond childhood memories of - places change and I like them to stay how I remember them.

I would also never go back to New York, Antananarivo, Manila or Boston. In the UK, I was bitterly disappointed by Elgin but the rest of Moray is beautiful. I was also very underwhelmed by Stonehenge, but love Avebury.

I love a lot of places mentioned here, such as Vancouver, Dublin, Cuba and Vietnam. I also loved Cairo, even if it was dirty, crowded and chaotic.

And to the poster who mentioned Japan being scary - it's very safe in the sense that theft is very rare, but not so safe if you're a single woman. and there were occasions when I felt very uneasy there.

alexdgr8 · 22/07/2021 18:06

@camouflagejacket

Oh yeah, Whitstable, how did I forget that? Now, where should we put our little strip of restaurants. What would be a good view round these parts? Oh, i know, that bit behind the cement works.
we got the paddle steamer the waverley from tower pier, lovely chugging through the thames estuary. made the error of hopping off at whitstable. never again. we had the temerity to look for tea at 4 o clock on a saturday afternoon. everywhere was either closed or just about to close. playhouse was good though, with old time variety show inc the acrobatic baloney brothers. i heard later that none of the performers actually lived in whitstable...
Yorkshireswithallroasts · 22/07/2021 18:08

I tend to be able to find ways to enjoy most places so there aren’t too many places I would never return to but I probably wouldn’t go back to:

Tenby (I just can’t stand the place!)
Girona in Spain. Never been able to put my finger on why, just made me feel weird!

emilyjeff · 22/07/2021 18:09

I could probably write a long list but I'll limit it to 3!
Paris- totally overated, didn't enjoy it
Lille- barely anything to do, very disappointing
Dublin- didn't like the vibe at all, felt on edge

Agree with people saying Oxford, I much prefer a day out in Cambridge. And London, way too busy and fast paced for me. I would only go for something specific I really wanted to see or do
