Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Crawley. Not that I was going to go on holiday there, but had a job interview. Turned down a second interview for several reasons, but one of the main ones was that it is such a depressing town.

Caligal · 22/07/2021 17:09

@BigSandyBalls2015

New York. Had a good time but it's not a patch on London.
Really?! In what way? I’m baffled. I wouldn’t feel safe walking round half of London and the other half just doesn’t really do it for me, I can see maybe saying that about other British cities but I don’t think it compares to New York except possibly from a historical standpoint.
CassandraCross · 22/07/2021 17:09

MsTSwift Cairo is the worst place I’ve ever visited by some measure

I agree, one place I would NEVER go back to, couldn't wait to leave it.

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2021 17:10

Honolulu Kept being offered drugs and it was very clean and sterile - but like Singapore is sterile and lacking. Beautiful places but not my idea of a place to stay more than 4 days

HelenHywater · 22/07/2021 17:10

Tunisia was pretty grim when I went there. And the men were just horrible.

I can't think of anywhere else I've been to that I really disliked. I'm not that fussed about Ipswich

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 17:10

Whitstable is more of a mosey around the shops, eat some oysters, have a pint sort of place. Ot's pretty nice, but not somewhere I'd wish to drag small children around.

SecretKeeper1 · 22/07/2021 17:12

@MsTSwift

Venice not because we didn’t love it it’s so beautiful but we managed to go last summer when it was almost empty - utterly magical. Would feel sad to see it when it’s rammed friends who had gone pre 2020 said it was utterly heaving in summer.
I absolutely love Venice. But the first time I went it was cold and flooded, second time it was boiling, rammed, and we had 4 kids with us.

I need to find a middle ground and go again, spring time maybe, nowhere else like it on earth.

HowlingGale · 22/07/2021 17:12

Cairo. Complete shithole. Horrific traffic, cars belching out fumes, everything run down and shabby. Loads of people trying to rip you off at every corner, loads of leering, and the musuem where Tutankhamun's death mask was displayed was a real let down too. To be fair this was 20 years ago - it may have improved since then, but I wouldn't fancy going back in a hurry!!

Kenneldogsrock · 22/07/2021 17:12

Tenerife but that could have been the person I was with.

Turkey - the men just hassled us constantly. Never again.

@TravelDreamLife

Opinion from other side of the world....

Fiji. Yawn. Dull, Nadi is too dangerous to wander around alone, it takes hours by bus to get to a resort with a decent beach. Most resort beaches are man made. Food is crap. It's hugely popular tho.

Vanuatu is much better if you get out of Vila & mix with the locals. Bonus points if you go to Tanna & climb the volcano.

Thank you for this, have been considering Fiji for a while but was stuck re where to base, might skip altogether and go with your suggestion, as and when we make it there!
impatientwatcher · 22/07/2021 17:13

Egypt. I went with an expat who spoke fluent Arabic. Wouldn't be the same on a coach tour or whatever.

LastSummerHere · 22/07/2021 17:13

@Mintjulia

Ireland. I was really disappointed. Sad

Whereabouts were you? Did you go up North? I'm biased as I had the time of my life there, but Belfast is pretty great. I made the North my home as I love it so much. I dislike Dublin...loved Mayo and Galway. Loved the wildness of it. It felt like I could feel the ghosts of a long suffering people.

waterlego · 22/07/2021 17:14

@Caligal, see that sounds great. Like you, we enjoy exploring cities by foot and doing ordinary things. We especially like to find eateries outside tourist centres as the latter tend to be overpriced and awful. We went to NY in the height of summer. The heat was oppressive, we were only there 3 days, and we had 10 and 8 year-old DCs with us. Needless to say, we went to all the tourist highlights! You’ve made me think again about going back without kids and just mooching about with DH. (And not in the summer!)

ivykaty44 · 22/07/2021 17:14

@MsTSwift I’m baffled by the Paris and Rome hate, I’ve found the Romans incredibly hospitable and the Parisians surprised me with their welcome, along with two great cities to explore

I do love France so maybe biast

ItPearl · 22/07/2021 17:17

Malta. I knew if never come back before id left. Only place ive gone to and been so certain of that.

vixeyann · 22/07/2021 17:17

New York - terrible service, rude people and money much needed to support homelessness and mental health.

RadioSixMusicLover · 22/07/2021 17:17

Lincoln. Backward, racist, insular with crap shops.

waterlego · 22/07/2021 17:18

Can’t believe @nonotmenotI nominated the French Alps. 😮 What’s not to love about mountains, lakes and raclette/fondu?

Sophiederuges · 22/07/2021 17:21

Same. We went for our honeymoon on the advice of the travel agent and I hated it. I couldn’t wait to go back home. A pity because visiting Carthage was an amazing experience but I’ll never go back.
MiamiPants · 22/07/2021 17:24

Gibraltar

Venice

Marrakech

The Moulin Rouge area of Paris

Dudley

didireallysaythat · 22/07/2021 17:24

New York

Disneyland (only went as we got free tickets)

Disappointing in very different ways

SixesAndEights · 22/07/2021 17:25

Grand Canyon and Stonehenge.

To see GC I think you either need to do a trek into the basin, or take a helicopter flight. I only had a day there, so too late to arrange that. Peering over the rim was a bit underwhelming.

Stonehenge was a bit Spinal Tap. I thought it'd be bigger, and walking round it on a roped path was like walking through a roped off NT property.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 22/07/2021 17:25

London. I just got back this afternoon. It doesn't help that it was 5 miles from the sun for the last two days while we were there.
I'm shattered and blame London for not controling the weather better. On the positive side, it was good to go when theres not as many people as a usual summer.

StealthRoast · 22/07/2021 17:25

Benidorm. It's horrible. Oh and Paris.

SixesAndEights · 22/07/2021 17:25

Also Los Angeles. It was just...awful.
