Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Lytham-St-Annes. Perfectly nice place, but I got a funny vibe there that made me feel uneasy.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 22/07/2021 16:50

Milan - so overpriced and so little to do/see
Hollywood - dirty, busy
Monaco - awful place with no soul, we left a restaurant after being seated and then openly ignored for about 20 minutes
Geneva - much like Monaco, soulless and boring

bringincrazyback · 22/07/2021 16:50

Nope. I went loads as a kid, it has massively gone downhill and more downmarket than ever since then. Know people who have lived and studied there as well.

And I lived in various parts of Blackpool for 20+ years and return regularly. Agree the centre's gone downhill from when I was younger and it saddens me that the town council aren't investing properly in the place, but there are still plenty of nice places in the immediate vicinity. It's an unfair/sweeping generalisation to write the whole place off as a shit tip.

I vowed never to return to Moscow but did 13 years later to find it much improved. Was only 18 first time and on an escorted tour which would be part of the problem.

China - glad I went mid 00s but no desire to go back.

HelloMissus · 22/07/2021 16:54

St Tropez.
Crowded, hot, full of handbag humans and bad restaurants.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2021 16:54

@Yogaposer

Madeira.... absolutely boring and there wasn't much to explore.
Seriously? Madeira has absolutely stunning mountains, waterways, botanical gardens, volcanic pools, watersports and whale/dolphin watching boat tours, plus loads of museums.

What did you expect? What did you want?

MsTSwift · 22/07/2021 16:57

Baffled at the Paris hate it’s absolutely beautiful where are you going there? We’ve been 3 times in last few years as teens like it too. We house swap in lovely districts

Caligal · 22/07/2021 16:59

I think New York is only overrated if you just go to all the tourist traps.

I’ve been 5 times and still have lots I want to see. I never go near Times Square. I done a couple of touristy things the first time like but when I go now I like to walk around Greenwich, soho, dumbo and Chelsea and just do normal stuff you would do at home almost but experience incredible food, parks and mooching around. I went to a food festival at the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline in the background of all this amazing food and drink. It was out of this world.

And Broadway is 1000% Better than the west end in my opinion.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 16:59

I liked Paris, apart from all the sleazy old men on the Metro. I was sitting next to DH and one guy started stroking my leg! Far, far worse than the Tube.

Equimum · 22/07/2021 16:59

Niagara Falls - the Falls themselves are beautiful, but the town is like a bad 1980s Blackpool. We couldn’t wait to leave.

I found it really dirty and found the homelessness and the begging off-putting. I'm from London so not particularly sheltered in terms of that issue. I remember being followed by primary aged children who were begging for money... something I've never seen in London. Very upsetting

It's full of golf bores. That'd do it.
thewooster · 22/07/2021 17:00

Sandbanks Dorset. Biggest letdown ever.

janj2301 · 22/07/2021 17:01

Aintgointogoa ditto, family went twice because of husband's job with an American bnk, he was at work all day so the girls (4 and 6 months) and I went off on our own, trains, shops overnight stays Great fun, wonderful people.

Thornton heath....shudder

Honestly I'm no stranger to some grimy parts of London, but I felt genuinely scared in Thornton Heath even with my dh who is not a wimpy kind of bloke by any means.

That baffles me. Odds are that you are nowhere remotely near the demographic that has anything to fear from the area.

It's the one part of the overall area where I'm most likely to get some lad offer me his seat on the bus (no, I'm not some sweet looking doddery old lady, either) or at the very least where there's a group all splodged out on the seats that they will immediately move their legs out of the way for me to pass/wait for me to get off first.

GintyMcGinty · 22/07/2021 17:02

Cyprus - tried a few different resorts but it doesn't do it for me.

Barcelona - didn't get what everyone is on about

camouflagejacket · 22/07/2021 17:03

Oh yeah, Whitstable, how did I forget that? Now, where should we put our little strip of restaurants. What would be a good view round these parts? Oh, i know, that bit behind the cement works.

Australia. I'm glad to have been but don't feel the need to go back, when though I barely scratched the surface). And Munich I was surprisingly (to me) indifferent to. Also Sri Lanka. I have been to India quite a number of times and thought SL would tick quite a few boxes, but I didn't really like it.

SecretWitch · 22/07/2021 17:05

I used to love San Francisco as had family who took us to some very lovely spots. Last time we went we were pick pocketed for $1000. ( yes, our fault for carrying so much cash but it really dims them place somehow)

Mexico. Went two different times and felt unsafe the entire time.

I will never go on a cruise again. Just one giant Petri dish of illness

Comedycook · 22/07/2021 17:05

@NeverDropYourMooncup. I'm born and bred South London...I've walked through rough areas alone at night and never felt how I've felt in Thornton heath. Horrible, threatening atmosphere and even in deprived parts of London, you still see glimmers of affluence or positivity or happiness...not in TH

Mintjulia · 22/07/2021 17:06

Ireland. I was really disappointed. Sad

I find Whitstable over rated and nothing much to do for children
MrsMaizel · 22/07/2021 17:07

Bradford

GameSetMatch · 22/07/2021 17:08

Cape Verde, boring nothing much to see or do it’s a waste of money travelling all that way to sit by a pool.
