Family of Toads in my drain

Discovered Daddy Toad, Mummy Toad and Baby Toads ( spawn) in my drain in the back garden this evening. What the hell am I going to do with them? Presume I'll need to get rid otherwise we'll be overrun with toads. DC are so excited. They looked so scared when I took the drain cover off, looking up at me with big eyes......

I think they are a protected species, you would breaking the law to move them or interfere with them in any way.

mrspainful · 20/07/2021 20:23

Really???

I think call the RSPCA in.

HappyRaven · 20/07/2021 20:27

Could you make a little habitat for them in your garden? Kids love that sort of thing.

Evenstar · 20/07/2021 20:28

Having seen where they are I would call your local wildlife rescue for advice, it doesn’t look very safe for them

HappyRaven · 20/07/2021 20:28

I think you might need help them out of there.

4PawsGood · 20/07/2021 20:29

They are protected. Please don’t hurt them, you won’t be overrun.

mrspainful · 20/07/2021 20:29

Happyraven yes that's what I'll do. Just been googling toads and it's all about how to attract toads to your garden. I was very ignorant about the whole toad thing it seems. I found a great article on how to make a toad house, DS is VERY excited and has named the daddy toad Toddy the Toad.

Is there a local wildlife centre you can call, they wont survive there for long without air, food and light.

Theunamedcat · 20/07/2021 20:31

You need some help relocating them to a suitable area thats not your drain

Is that your kitchen drain or rainwater drain?

mrspainful · 20/07/2021 20:31

It's just a down pipe from the rain guttering so hopefully quite safe, but we will see if we can move them to a toad house.

OP posts:
Evenstar · 20/07/2021 20:32

They do need to be rescued from there and quickly, please ring a wildlife rescue, they will help you relocate them safely.

mrspainful · 20/07/2021 20:33

They can get in and out ok, have been crawling all over the patio earlier.

Shirleyphallus · 20/07/2021 20:33

I’d name them:
Toady Roosevelt
Alfred Hitchcroak
Audrey Hopburn
Toad Bundy

mrspainful · 20/07/2021 20:34

Fab names. Particularly like Audrey Hopburn Smile

Flowers500 · 20/07/2021 20:43

How sad that your first response to getting blessed with a rare, protected and beautiful visitor is to say you'll be "overrun" like they're a pest!

Make them a nicer area to live in in the garden, hopefully they will willingly move from the drains. You might need to contact RSPCA if their spawn needs to be moved somewhere safer. Don't interfere with the beauties!

DogsSausages · 20/07/2021 20:45

Where do you live OP

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/07/2021 20:46

Don't evict them, you should build them a fine residence - a Hall in fact, and buy a small car for Daddy Toad to drive about in.

@Shirleyphallus 'Toad Bundy' 😁

EvilPea · 20/07/2021 20:47

Now what you’ve got there is a toad in the hole
